I like Hello Bistro; it's simple, relatively fast, food is tasty, and they have craft sodas. My only complaint is that they advertise "burgers and salads together" but yet they only have one (very large) size salad and you can't get a smaller custom salad as a side to go with your burger. read more

We came early (around 10:30), so it was quiet. The seating area was very clean and well lit. The girl making my salad was pleasant enough. She was really quiet though, so I felt like I kept repeating "what?" Which was kind of annoying. Only thing I really dislike is that they are REALLY skimpy on the toppings. This isn't our first time here and it's by far the "smallest" salads we've ever had (by small I mean toppings - always PLENTY of lettuce lol). $24 for 2 chicken salads and 2 drinks. Decent enough. If you're going to this location, I would recommend ordering online. My husband and i spent about 15 minutes after we paid waiting for someone to make our salads. The staff seems pretty new, and disorganized. As far as the salads, my husband got the Cobb Salad and I made my own.. both were good. You have to prompt if you would like a little more of the toppings because it is A LOT of lettuce and very small toppings.. especially if you only ask for a few different ones. It's a reasonable meal and convenient for us but usually not great. I just had their Superburger and it was the driest burger I've had in a while. My wife thinks the salads are okay but not really flavorful. (Of course it'd help had they not forgot the dressing today.) The staff is sometimes okay and sometimes really bad - very hit or miss. I'm not one to complain but their service was sloppy right down to the manager. I ordered a grilled cheese for myself and one for my daughter at 6:34pm. My friend ordered after me. He asked a bunch of questions because his daughter is allergic to gluten. He had ordered burgers for himself and his daughter. They received their meals probably around 6:55pm. The girl delivering the food to the table said that my order was overlooked and they were making it now so it should be out in 5 mins. Ok, I get that they had a mad rush when we came in and it was going to take some time. At 7:05pm, I approached the counter and let them know that it has now been 30 mins for two grilled cheese. The manager said they got busy. I let him know it was unacceptable at this point. It still took another 5 mins to get our food. Not ok. At this point I'm angry and the poor girl delivering food got the brunt of it. This poor girl then comes up to me 5 mins later to give me a $10 bill. I pray that this did not come out of her pocket and out of the manager's pocket. He still made no point to appease me. Hello Bistro, I usually like you because the food is good and the service is reasonable. You need to find a manager who knows how to perform good customer service because the one you have is doing a poor job. I love the salads that they offer! I got the cucumber watermelon chicken salad which was great. Too many hot peppers so will ask for less next time. Every time I order a salad off their menu to go, they never put the cheese on it that it is supposed to come with. This has happened three times is that I have gotten home and they did not put the cheese on the salad. From my one experience this place is very poorly managed. There were 7-8 employees working for even less customers while I was there. Everyone was doing seemingly whatever they felt like in a hap hazard way. There was no overarching production process so quality and accuracy were non existent. I ordered a cobb salad meal, a greek salad and a caprese grilled cheese. The cobb salad was made two times by accident, when they figured it out it probably went to waste. The second cobb salad was made with the stem still on the half of an avocado; not a nice touch. While I was waiting for my order, someone came back into the store complaining their order was wrong. (Made sense). The customer gave them back the salad. For some strange reason that salad was placed on the table where the good orders go. Someone found it and didn't know who it belonged to and began asking around. Another customer asked for the napkins off of my table, Which I thought was strange considering 90% of the tables were not occupied. I then realized 90% of the napkin holders didn't have napkins. With 8 people working and less customers in house, I think someone could stock the napkins. My cobb salad was okay, the fries were decent, the greek salad was made with blue cheese instead of the described feta (really?). Our caprese grilled cheese had a large inedible basil stem. The workers need to be taught discipline. Also too many flies buzzing around. I doubt I'll go back, I was already leery prior. read more

I went today but the young lady who put the dressing on went way overboard! I told her medium dressing but there was a puddle at the bottom of my bowl. I also don't like the chicken they offer. This was definitely a disappointing place to say the least. I went out to lunch with a couple of my co-workers about a week and a half ago, I just created yelp which is why I'm giving it a review now, and I was impressed with the menu but I played it safe with a turkey burger. After all of us receive our food and we start to eat, my co-workers pull out strings of hair in BOTH of their food. It was such a disappointment because my food was honestly good up until I saw that. I couldn't stomach another bite after seeing that and we all threw our food away because we couldn't stand to take another bite or even ask for new food. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to even try and attempt to eat at here again. It only received two stars because my turkey burger was pretty good. There are many reasons why I choose to skip Hello Bistro but first let me start with some positive thoughts. I do like that you can design your own salad and it seems to be enough salad for two meals. That about sums up what I like about this restaurant. On my last visit there seem to be a lot of people just sitting at the tables waiting for their orders. The tables were sticky and not clean at all. The noise level in this restaurant drives me insane. There are few restaurants like this in Pittsburgh that I choose to not eat in because of how loud they are and this one is the loudest. I suppose noise level is hard to control when the restaurant is a cement block that has metal table and metal seats. In fact the food is even served on metal trays, sort of reminds me of a prison. As far as the quality of the food, there is a lot to be desired. The sauces are bland and the fries are very greasy. It is a real turn on to have fries served in a greasy paper bag. With so many other choices around I do not see myself or my family eating at Hello Bistro again. read more

Food here was very good for the price, but the restaurant was filthy!! As soon as you open the door to come in, the smell of the garbage is completely overwhelming. We could not eat our meals inside. When we came back inside from the outdoor seating to get condiments or clear our places, the smell hit you all over again when you're walking in. Our feet were sticking to the floor and it was just overall completely filthy. There were only about 10 people in the restaurant at the time, so it's not like they were too swamped to attend to the trash, etc. We've been here twice so far and this was the case both times. Salads at hello bistro are vegetarian even if you order a protein. This is because the amount of chicken they add is so minuscule. I asked the manager to add more chicken to my buffalo chicken salad and she proceeded to show me exactly what two ounces of diced chicken looks like. It looks like (and is) seven small pieces of chicken. Wow, what customer service! Is this how eat n park became the Pittsburgh icon that it is? Or maybe the manager with a died purple mohawk is not representative of an iconic company! How about hiring professionally looking and acting people for management positions. How about training management in customer service. Speaking of hiring...the teenage girl that made my salad was twirling her ponytail over all of the toppings while several teenage boys watched her while their jeans were falling off their back sides. Let me begin by stating that I really do love Hello Bistro's food, when it actually has all of its ingredients and is properly prepared. AGAIN tonight we got food from Hello Bistro that was missing a key ingredient. The ironic thing is that tonight's meal was actually purchased with a gift card from the last time that this happened. My husband picked up dinner because I had a parent orientation and would be home late. My Apple Almond Crunch salad was missing the chicken. Not a very satisfying meal after a long day. Just very disappointed. I had such high hopes that after all of the issues we had over multiple visits months ago that things would improve. We are done with Hello Bistro. If you go check all your food; never assume that it was made properly. In my experiences they get it right only about 75% of the time. I stopped in around 1pm on a Friday. The restaurant was quite busy. I ordered the avocado burger then filled up my cup at the boylans soda fountain- a nice touch. I was hungry when I came in and approaching hangry 20 minutes later when I finally got my burger. The burger was more than decent and the price was good, but the place was dirty (trash and spills on the soda fountain, un-bussed tables) and the wait was quite long. This is a great restaurant with awesome staff!!! I had ordered our dinner online (3 hours ahead of time) which was very user-friendly. At 8:30pm I walked out holding my two big bags and tried to open my car door--I didn't realize i had dropped my wallet. In the morning I couldn't locate my wallet, realized it was missing, and I cancelled my debit/credit cards. I called HB before the store opened at 9:30am to see if it was there or if it was turned in. Well, they found my wallet in the parking lot while they were putting out trash! We used to love coming to Hello Bistro in McCandless after we've done our shopping in the area. However, today was the FINAL time we will come to this Hello Bistro. For the THIRD time a burger that my daughter ordered was bloody inside. They don't ask you at the register how you want your burger cooked, but if they want to serve bloody burgers then they better start asking. My daughter showed an employee behind the counter, who stated "oh my! that's definitely not cooked completely" and she tossed it in the trash. When she asked the kid cooking to make another he was hollering (very unprofessional) for everyone, including us, to hear in the restaurant that the burger was cooked. No it wasn't and we also have photo's to prove it! When I asked for a manager, the girl refunded our money and asked if my daughter wanted another. Well, duh...we stopped here for dinner so yes, a fully cooked, not still mooing burger would be swell. I then caught, who might be the shift manager who, of course, apologized but was in a hurry to leave and said she would talk to the employee when she returned. Three strikes you're out! We will not be returning to this Hello Bistro again. This review also doesn't refer to the multiple times we've been in and either the ranch is out of order or the ketchup is empty. Today we experienced with a mooing burger, the diet pepsi was out of order. Someone needs to get this place in order or else people will start going to the Bistro up the road in Pine. That's where we'll be going from now on or just shop out in the South Hills and go to the Bistro in USC. We have never had an issue at either one of these locations. read more

Let me start my review off by saying that my husband and I really enjoy the food here, and have been coming since they first opened. But the service is just beyond terrible, literally getting worse each time we come. Last time I went the guy making my salad knocked over the salad container and attempted to picked it all up, even stuff that fell on the floor until I called him out on it. I was baffled. My husband has a shellfish allergy, and they do have shrimp on the toppings bar, so we notified them immediately. Yet the cashier in no way notifies the person making the salad, so saying something is worthless Not to mention dirty tables and trash everywhere. Definitely a great place for fast dining and healthy options! I got a kale-quinoa-avocado salad for $7 and it was definitely quite a hefty portion! I also ordered a side of homemade fries, and although they were a little greasy for me, the taste was delicious. We struggled to find seating though since it was crowded, and I would say it is not a very conducive atmosphere for anything more than a casual meet up.
