I brought my bike in to have the bottom bracket tightened, not installed, not greased, not cleaned, just tightened, since I don't have that particular tool. This occured on 9/19/2018. I had a staff named "Samuel" fixed my kid bicycle today. I tried to assembly a pedal at home but the chain was loose, so I liked a pro to take a look and fix if possible. I think Samuel was an owner of this shop and he worked on my bike. He said the bike got a bad design . Later on, he fixed the loosed chain. I asked him how he fixed it and he said the magic worked. Once I got the bike, I inspected carefully and very DISAPPOINTED with the result!! What he did was he removed the rear wheel washer pin head out of the body frame socket. That totally defeated the purpose of safety using the washer. (See Pictures attached) With this unsafe method and unapproved, he could move the rear wheel far out and tighten the chain. Look at the picture I posted here carefully, you can see that the only thing holding the rear wheel are the two tiny small screws at the rear break and the bike chain itself. The rear wheel washer hold nothing to the frame. I cannot imagine how dangerous this would be if riding on the side of the road and the rear wheel come off. This is dangerous. It is not a professional work. I am not happy at all. He wanted to charge me $32.02. Screw it!! Do I have to pay that price with the method I not approve?? I told him that was more than I expected. He lowered down to $22.02 with no warranty. I don't care if the bike design was flaw or not. He was supposed to tell me what wrong first and what he planned to do. If I was not okay with this reckless method, he should not do anything. The repair guy was supposedly to be a pro and I was expected a work of a pro. What he did was wrong. He just tried to tighten the chain and defeat the safety. If he had told me that he would moved the washer out of the safety socket to tighten the chain, I would have told him not to do at the first place and contact the bike manufacturer for defect. The BIG problem is he just did without telling me and charged me the price. read more

This place is awesome! The staff members are so helpful and kind. I've taken my bike there a number of times and the service is always great with very reasonable pricing. I got a flat on Tuesday (which is a day the bike shop is closed) and they saw me through the window and still opened the shop to help me change it so I could get home! I live in the neighborhood and was excited when the cafe opened. It was really lovely at first especially when they had Hannah Holden's (Rise Above Bakery) pastries!! but in the last couple months the cafe has gone downhill. They no longer have Rise Above pastries which is sad, and there's been a lot of staff turnover. The previous staff was fun and warm and sunny. Doesn't feel as much that way now sadly! It's kinda a bummer since it's a perfect location for a cafe. Would love if they could get Hannah's pastries back and improve the atmosphere! read more

Let me save you the trouble just shop on Amazon. I live in the neighborhood and initially I thought I would just buy the tire I needed on amazon. But I really want to support local business so I decided to come in. I've never had such horrible customer service. I have been to Hello Bicycle probably 7 times in the last 3 months for various issues, i like supporting local businesses that are in the neighborhood. I had an issue that Paul was willing to work on but Sam was nearby and said we are not gonna work on this. I would love to recommend this shop to everyone in the neighborhood but Sam is not a very friendly person to deal with, even after spending hundreds here at this shop. Great new bike shop and conveniently located just off Dodge, between the Loop and Tucson Hop Shop. Took my bike in for an e-shifter issue one day - Sam fixed it in a minute and I was in and out in 5 minutes. Went back with an appointment for some more substantial issues. They did a really great job and turnaround time was excellent. Really looking forward to the opening of the cafe later this year! Should be a great place to gather. read more

As a longtime North Beacon Hill resident, I've been utilizing Hello Bicycle's repair and tune-up services on and off for the past decade or so. (I occasionally attempt my own bike repairs and maintenance with varying degrees of failure and success.) I do like that when I occasionally have an issue with my DIY bicycle work, I can bring it in, and Sam will provide a quick fix or some assistance with their more helpful pro tools gratis. Regarding retail, they rarely have the bike accessories that I want, but they do use high-quality parts like cables, cable housings, etc. when performing their high-end tune-ups. They are very involved with community projects and are neighborhood-focused, which I personally value in a local business. Also, I very much appreciate how strict they are about following and enforcing COVID-19 protocols. Thankfully, Seattle has a ton of awesome local bike shops, and if you live in Beacon Hill, I highly recommend that this be yours. Happy cycling! read more

Hello Bicycle is a community oriented shop that is nowhere of the corporate flavor nor the ghetto slap together so called business either. The staff are beyond amazingly friendly and usually will bend backwards for you on special requests such as ordering high end parts of a road bike such as a Litespeed Siena. I usually do the arrogant move of name dropping a few parts and technical terms to see how well they know their parts and I can't call BS on them. And it is appreciative the staff does recommend other bicycle shops that specialize in things they might do better on such as working on gravity or freeride mountain bikes. The store merchandise hold no promise of finding FSA SLK cranks or Rolf Elan rims but it guarantees that it will always do its best and that's not too shabby. read more

Why can't I get these guys to be nice to me! I had read all these reviews and I was so excited to stop in and then...nothing. I've tried twice. Both times I've come in and said Hello, I am a bike novice. Please help. ...And then I asked what they must have thought were inane questions (granted, they probably were [note the aforementioned novice-ness]). I say this because there were long pauses after my questions in which they stared at me blankly, followed by a very short reply that echoed faintly of "duh." I felt foolish and couldn't wait to get out of there. Three stars because they weren't outright rude or anything. Hello bicycle is everything you want in bicycle shop. The staff are friendly, the service is fantastic, and you walk away with a better appreciation for bikes, and humanity. Of course, their selection could be larger, but the store is small. I wouldn't trade a larger selection for the shop to change at all. If I had to rate the place based on service I give it a five star. This place felt like a neighborhood bike shop. People riding by stop in to poke around and talk. They even have coffee, donuts, and free vegan ice cream (at least the day i came in). So i guess u can grab your morning breakfast and read the paper while you get your bike tuned up. I'm only giving it a four star because they were limited in bike selection, however they still carried a decent QUALITY selection for its store size. NO pressure sales at all. There are many things I appreciate about Hello Bicycle. I like their location since it is close to my work, other local businesses, a library, and the light rail station. It also helps that everyone has been friendly and non-intimidating. I feel that they do a great job at catering to the neighborhood. Like, I would totally be comfortable with taking my mom in here to buy a bike. I like the super reasonable prices. So far I've had a tune-up, had my chain replaced, and purchased a helmet and some lights. Never once have I felt like I overpaid or felt like I should've "shopped around". Also, their used bike inventory sells some great bicycles for outstanding prices. As mentioned earlier, they are in a great location. For a bike repair, check out Bike So Good, there's probably a different bike shop for the crackers expensive carbon fiber components. Had a(nother) flat tire, and needed a repair fast to enjoy Seattle's sometimes fleeting dry/warm weather. Sam helped me and even introduced me to Kevlar tires, so maybe I won't have this problem again. I'll be back to have my other tire replaced with the same type tire. The only minus to this place is its lack of tools. I brought my bike in to get a screw tapped out. While he didn't have proper tools for the job, with a little creativity he was able to get the screw out and replaced it with a new one. He only charged me $2!! WOOT! Came in to get my flat repaired. They noticed a crank recall and replaced my whole derailer and crank for free!

I bought a Stryder bike for my 2 year old and after only two weeks the handlebar split in two. I brought it in expecting to drop it off to be fixed but the employee just exchanged the whole bike. No questions asked. That was a relief because my boy loves his bike and we avoided the agony of being without it for a few days.(he rides it everyday and parks it next to his bed). I was given a very nice bicycle by my housemate, who had bought it for her grandson. It had some shifting issues and because it was a good bike I decided to fix it up for a friend. I have no complaints about the work or the price (more than $240) but I still have a bad feeling about the utter lack of warmth I felt from the folks who I dealt with. All I can figure is there may have been an assumption that I could not have just been given such a nice bike so I must have stolen it or received it from a thief. It was weird. And now, when I'm wanting to have some work done on my own bike, a fairly nice Mongoose with front and rear suspension, I'm pretty set on taking it elsewhere. read more
