A great little wine shop with an outdoor deck and seating and a nice selection of white and red wines by the glass. The furniture outside could use an update but the views are great of the shops, marinas and the channel. Prices were reasonable. The shop is filled with a great assortment of wines. Staff was friendly enough but not very engaging. They offer some meat and cheese boards to go along with your wine. A wonderful, relaxing experience. read more

As a wine lover, this is one of my favorite spots! Jeff is awesome and creates an incredible experience for all of his guests. Whether you know a ton about wine or just want something good, he'll create a fun experience. I am so impressed by the selection and its diversity- there are awesome local wines but also cool representation from all over the world. I've tasted a lot of things, but every time I stop in, he has something for me to try that I have never tasted before! Always trust his recommendations. The shop itself is huge and full of amazing wines. The tasting list is diverse and large and they are super flexible in allowing guests to build their own tastings from the list. They also have some snacks! The outdoor area is right on the water and is absolutely lovely. I could spend the whole afternoon out there! They have a good range of options here. We decided to have a bottle on their beautiful patio-we love that they do not have a corkage fee! Escaping the drizzle misting down outside, we found ourselves in this cozy tasting room, where my wife proceeded to spend way too much money on wine stored in bottles that look like cats, because she's a crazy cat lady! Now, her felicitous feline selection is not a product of Hellams, but rather some sort of European import, so I can't commend on the quality of Hellams own personal vintages, but I can say that, based on aesthetic and customer service alone, this is the sort of tasting room where I personally would enjoy whiling the hours away on a lazy, drizzly or rainy weekend afternoon. It's a shame we hadn't enough time to do so. Still, Hellams Vineyard looks to be an incredible place to take some time sampling various whites, reds and rosés. The place is positively, but elegantly, bursting with towers, pyramids, dioramas and other artistic displays of myriad varieties of wine across its entire spectrum of colors and flavors, so there is bound to be something here for everyone. Coming from a wine area in California, we came across this establishment during the Covid events during the early winter. The staff was incredible with their knowledge and friendliness. We have returned regularly over the last year. We were able to enjoy one of the dinner cruise with a local winery and cannot wait to do more. read more

We got here about 15 minutes before closing and had no idea what we wanted to order or if we be able to order. The woman was so nice and let us order a bottle of wine after giving us a couple of taste just so we knew what we liked. If you are in La Conner Hellam's is a must stop if you enjoy tasting wines. They offer wines from across Washington state plus beyond. The tasting fee is a dollar per taste, which I would more than likely have left as a tip. There are multiple over stuffed chairs and couches to linger in longer if you are so inclinded. read more

I was strolling around a very pretty downtown La Conner on a nice crisp sunny day and wandered in. The owner is a very friendly guy and was very helpful in helping me make my wine selection. I chose a nice Port from a pretty substantial selection. Also available were tastings, cheese, and a nice little bakery across the hall. read more

It's a nice little place inside a mall like building. The back of the room has doors that open to a deck overlooking the water. You can get a cheese plate, and in the summer when it's warm, it must be nice to take it with a bottle of wine out onto the deck and enjoy. This is a great place: cozy, customer oriented with really good wine. Most of the wine was selected by the owners for a combination of prices and styles. Their tasting bar usually has 6 or more wines available and the pours are generous. There are some small plates that one can purchase if you haven't eaten. First negative review ever done. This was the worst customer service and negative response by a merchant we have ever experienced! We bought a bottle of Brunello 2012 wine. That night we TRIED to open the bottle with 3 different corkscrews and the cork was so embedded and tight it broke the first two openers. When we got to the third corkscrew and was trying to lift it up, there was so much pressure on the glass it broke the glass around the top sides of the bottle. (See photos) Clearly defective. We poured it out over worries of broken glass in wine. When we tried to return the defective bottle and cork to Jeff the merchant/owner next day and explain what happened, he clearly wanted no part of a conversation of standing behind the merchandise he sells and wouldn't consider a credit or replacement of any kind. It was only a $54.00 purchase with tax. He was actually very rude to my husband and I and simply said you broke the bottle and wouldn't consider the why. When we pressed him again that he should stand behind his merchandise, he told us to get out and don't come back. We had no plans to ever come back and would suggest you don't either. Not sure if he was having a bad day or what but he came across as very self centred, negative and rude. Avoid this business. read more

My husband and I discovered this gem of a place a couple years ago, after wine tasting a couple times we went to a couple of their wine paring dinners and have met wonderful people along the way. Being a wine club member has never been a disappointment either, the wines that Jeff selects every month are delicious and well priced. We sampled some wines while getting acquainted with the family and the family dog, who has quite the personality. In addition to a offering a great selection of liquor, there's a cozy area to relax on some comfy couches. Liked this place before, but went in and did a tasting then, when we ordered two glasses our server took the order then completely forgot about us... until it was time for her to leave, then she ordered us around, clearly not knowing what we had ordered... so... yeah. Real bad service. After posting this message the owner contacted me and offered to rectify this situation. Not even a week had passed. This is a great place to discover a new favorite wine or beer. They offer both beer and wine clubs, which are very reasonably priced and always fun! There is indoor seating and plenty of space at the tasting bar, but if its a nice day the best seats are on the back patio, overlooking the water. Just spent a week touring the west coast of WA state, stopping at wineries and wine shops all along the way. This was one of the best stops, without a doubt. Tried a handful of wines for $1 each and enjoyed every one. The three local (WA) wines were some of the best I tasted. Although this is not really a "vineyard" as it's in the heart of La Conner, I hit it up while up there by myself for the night. The owner does make his own wine, but I didn't try it. He has an amazing selection of local wines. Seriously, amazing. I got to try several wines and the pours were more than good, and I picked up a bottle of vinho verde from Portugal for 7.99. Deal! They also have some great local cheese (YESSS) and I got a small slice of brie, great crackers, wine and the tastes for under 17 dollars. To me, that's a deal. If you want to go into a non-chockey touristy place in La Conner, this is the place to go. Seriously, I was in heaven. Maybe it could have been the buzz I got somehow, but it was good. read more

I was warned by ""Jeff" that he'd provide a colorful reply. Wine club member who visits La Conner regularly to enjoy wine made by amazing folks in the area. First place in La Conner that cared more about being right than making sure his "customers" were satisfied. Skagit Creek Winery and Skagit Creek Cellars would NEVER treat someone so horribly. Jeff offered a wine from a friend on Bellingham and we'll be sure to let them know that this store is not worthy of their wine. Bad customer service doesn't even come close. The owner, jeff, could really use some customer service skills. When someone is entering your shop, get off the phone and greet us, even if you don't know us. Just rude sometimes. The outdoor seating area could really be beautiful, but the patio furniture looks like it came from the salvation army. No plants out closer to the channel. I wish they would make it look and feel more like tuscany or france with plants and pots. The decor inside is cramped and is difficult to do a tasting as the bar is small with tons of displays behind you...makes moving around rather difficult and you constantly have to 'skooch' in as people are walking behind you while one's having a tasting. read more
