Sure like this place a lot. I live very close so its super convenient. The beer is terrific. They have a rye IPA which is pretty rare and very good. Atmosphere is rustic, reclaimed wood, Edison bulbs and they made great use of the old brick warehouses. The bar is polished concrete, bathrooms are worth a trip. They made some canvas art out of their various hops supplier bags which is super creative and meaningful. Always a food truck at the entrance. My hope for Commercial is for it to become a hip funky collection of craft bubs and bistros around those twisty-turn avenues that will bring people from Helix out of hiding and potentially increase my property value. I was excited to try out this brewery after hearing about its awesome craft beer selection from my friend Jeff.. Last night we stopped by for a couple pints... Wow... Amazing quality craft beer and great atmosphere. Staff was super nice... The place is very modern..! We stopped by many breweries last night to celebrate my friends bday, this was by far the best!! We even went back today before we left town to stop by and grab a growler to go!! My favorite beer the mosaicolohic beer (it's a double IPA 7.5%) and the active IPa.. By far the best brewery in La Mesa, it's definitely one of my go-to spots. They have a ton of great beers, especially the IPAs. My favorites are 1492, Galaxy Rye, and Stanky Dank. The atmosphere inside and outside are awesome, they really did a great job with this place. They have food trucks almost every day of the week, and they almost never disappoint. I came here on a Thursday for football had its regulars. The bartender was super nice. Awesome guy. I think I would go back just because he was cool and talked to me since I was there alone. I didn't really enjoy the beer selection. They do have a nitro stout which was really good. The rest of the other beers don't really have much of a difference from other breweries. They have an amazing selection of beers. I guess you have to try them all. They do have some flavored ones but again, they didn't do it for me. Not even their light beer. It was not very tasty. Like I said, if you are a stout drinker this is the place. They are also able to mix the beers around to make like a concoction which seem to be tasty. Some people were asking the bartender to mix their beers and I tried a few. They were ok. Again, not my favorite beer place but would definetky go back. read more

They have a nice selection of beers that are flavorful and interesting, but not over the top hopped and boozy like many SD breweries. Really excellent commercial space in La Mesa's industrial park. Old, charismatic brick building, nice patio with planters, old wine barrels and a mister system for hot days! This is a great space to host a party, save for the parking which is limited in the front. The beers were all very good. They have an interesting chocolate rye porter, which is unusual to find in San Diego's beer scene. Excellent. Very good oatmeal stout, serviceable rye IPA and a good hoppy red ale (and more I didn't sample). I like the atmosphere and hope this place makes it in a very crowded beer scene. Came in after a root canal redo so can't really go all happy on this, the guy at the bar ( didn't catch a name ) gave me a couple of tasters on the ones I was asking about, both the red and double IPA were tasty. Wasn't expecting much since I wasn't impressed with another brewery in the area but was real happy with the beer ( would have been happier without the dental work) called a buddy out and we had a quick pint. I will definitely come back soon absent the dental visits, great atmosphere too! read more

Our first trip to this brewery. Regular drinker at many of the other local breweries. Before ya jump to conclusions, I go not because I'm a drunk, but because I really enjoy local craft beers. The wife kinda likes beers and is along for the ride and the social fun. Anyway, this is a great venue and the beers were great. This is all an older true commercial area of La Mesa. Safe and secure, no issues there. It starts off with an older red brick building with a 'tin' roof which houses the brewery equipment right in the front of the building. Behind the bar is a great glass walled cooler. (I want a set up like this in my next house!) Very 'cool' looking. Very nice patio area with great lighting and a nice shade tree. Nice set up area for the band if they have one. And if you stay inside the main building, you can still talk without the band over powering your conversation. Overall, a MUST visit, even if you're not a beer lover! Just go for the atmosphere and social fun! read more

Helix is awesome! It's a family ran brewery and they are ALL very attentive. We've been coming for months now and they have never failed with service or quality. They have many board games along with cornhole. If you check their Instagram page they will tell you what kind of food truck is available and who will entertain you. The clientele they attract is very mellow, kid and dog friendly. They have an indoor and outdoor seating with heaters in both areas. They are really clean. When the bartenders slow down, they come around to not only pick up glasses but wipe down your table. When they put glasses in the dishwasher, they watch for lipstick stains (big deal for me). I really like the atmosphere / vibe of this micro brewery. The beer is great and there are many choices, Prague Nosis is currently my favorite. The people pouring are very pleasant. I LOVE this setup/layout. The patio was huge! I loved that they had cornhole going on and some misters keeping people cool. The inside was a bit small (that is in comparison to the amazing patio area). It was great seeing people with dogs, children, and playing games. I felt so relaxed and at home here. I went on a Saturday afternoon. It was busy but not PACKED. Total Goldilocks, just right. The beer was good. Nothing stood out too much, but I certainly enjoyed everything I had. No rockstars among the beer, but definitely respectable and quality filled. I would definitely go back to Helix and I would bring others with me. read more

We met some friends at the new Helix Brewing yesterday and had a great time! The place has a very cool vibe and the people are super nice, helpful and friendly. I'm not a beer drinker, but I did like the Acid Drop, which was light and refreshing on a hot day! They had a food truck out front, Organic Food Truck, ordered food which was delivered to our table and it was delicious. I definitely recommend giving Helix Brewing a try. Cheers! read more

This is a great micro Brew. They have a quality 10 barrel system which is in easy view. I like to be able to check out the brewing equipment. Staff was very accommodating. A lot of variety on tap and a few off menu choices. We ordered a full flight of samples. Every beer was a good beer and some were excellent. If you like a good Pale Ale or IPA then they have a few good ones. The Stout was Very Good and the Dark Rye was a standout as well. I forget the name but one of the choices was Tart. Kind of interesting but best in the Sample size... I plan on putting this place into my Craft Brew Rotation. If you like to try out Micro Breweries then you have to give this place a shot. read more

I had to get away from the insanity at home so I packed up my dogs and headed to Helix brewery. There were other places closer to home, (West coast bar & grill, San Diego brewing,) but these places you can not bring your dogs. My dogs sat quietly under the table while I drank my Helix double I.P.A. Their beers are delicious and top quality. So glad I could bring my dogs with me. They stay home alone enough. Thanks. I have gone to Helix a handful of times before and the experience has always been decent. I was there on Friday 8/17/18 and I got a table with my girls while my husband ordered me a beer. He picked one he thought I would like and brought it to the table. Well, I tried it (literally one sip) and didn't like it so I went up to the bar and told the girl working that I didn't like the beer my husband selected to see if I could swap it out for a different one. She told me sure but that she was going to have to charge me for another beer (even though I didn't drink the one I was returning). I told her to forget it. I wasn't going to buy another beer when the first one was gross. Needless to say, they lost a customer. read more
