I've had 3 Russian manicures at Olena's salon since February, and I've been consistently impressed with the quality of her work. 2 of my appointments were with Olena herself, and one was with Lya, who is no longer at Helena Nails. My manicures with Olena have been incredibly durable. I wash my hands a lot and am hard on my nails, but I've had no lifting whatsoever, and my Russian manicures routinely last 6+ weeks while still looking great. My nails naturally curve downward as they grow longer, but Olena does an excellent job shaping and applying hard gel on them so they look balanced and don't develop that downward bend. She's also incredibly detail oriented and efficient with her hard gel application and cuticle detailing, which makes my manicures look clean, polished, and long lasting. Her combination of precision and efficiency is one of the main reasons I go to see her whenever I'm back home in LA. The only con is that the salon is fairly small with only 2 manicure stations and 1 pedicure station. As her popularity continues to grow, I imagine appointments may become harder to book. Highly recommend going to Olena for your manicure/pedicure needs! As a former nail biter, I have very short nail beds with almost none existent side walls. I've always opted for extensions without necessarily wanting the length. Coming in, I wasn't sure whether to get extensions or opt for the "modeling" option. Olena talked me through what I wanted and we ended up going with the modeling. I was really impressed by her technique and attention to detail. This is a real Russian Manicure, not to be confused with the standard quick and dirty standard manicure that the vast majority of salons offer. As a man, I can see the difference in the finished work - the gel is smooth as glass, the cuticles carefully cleaned, fingernails uniformly shaped. I came to get my nails done I thought I was going to get them done my Helena, I needed a last minute nail job as my boyfriend and I were going somewhere. I was seen by someone else. All my nails were uneven meaning all my nails were different sizes, they were thick. Two of my nails are peeling already. It's been not even a whole 24 hours. 190 for my mani pedi and I don't feel satisfied. I feel like she should have told me she wasn't available and I would have waited to get my nails done with her. I had come home to make them thinner and to file them even. Russian manicures are very expensive and I did not receive the quality I paid for. Again 190 is not cheap. I understand some people are beginning, but she should let people know that someone else would be doing my nails. Could I of walked out and changed my mind yes, but I figured since there's NO PLACE that does Russian manicures it would be Fantastic and since I had a dinner to go to I couldn't go anywhere else. Pasadena and San Diego i is so far, but I should have just went to where I'm familiar with. I'm sad this is what I got for 190. I got my nails done with Helen last week and I couldn't be more satisfied. She's meticulous with her work and is very patient. I think I went back and forth about which color I wanted like 10 times. I love that she offers rubber base gel manicures, they last anywhere from 3-4 weeks without chipping. She also has a ton of colors to choose from.
