My friend tried on a few pairs of shoes, as we were lucky enough to be shopping when a new assortment had just arrived. The woman working was lovely and elegant who offered assistance and patience. But I'm not here to review purchased items, I'm here to review the company's Port Washington store. Located on the southern end of the downtown strip, this store has a "woodsey" feel. There is much more product in the store than I initially anticipated and one could spend a fair amount of time browsing everything from womens and mens apparel to dog accessories to cook books to candies. There are many unique items that make fun gifts for relatives and friends; I often come here to find something for that hard-to-shop-for person. I have been in this store many times and it is always clean and well organized. The associates are friendly. However, a strange phenomenon occurs in this space. Time does not seem to exist. Not for the customers, not for the employees, just not at all. Ever. Don't get me wrong, the calm atmosphere is relaxing and I dont enjoy the hustle and bustle ever. It's often a neccessary evil. However, it should not take 40 minutes to make a simple exchange with 2 cashiers and a customer at each register. When an older lady tried to cut in front of me in line, after I waited all that time, I nearly lost my cool. The snail's pace is my only issue about this store. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. There are still kind people in the world who will help and not judge you. Family Sharing Food Pantry is a wonderful non-profit organization that helps people, like me, when they need it. I was able to call and ask for the help I needed. When I arrived I felt welcomed by friendly volunteers who chatted with me and my service dog. They were kind and pleasant. I was nervous and very ashamed. Nobody made me feel like a charity case or like I was less human. It was just like going to a grocery store. I walked through with a volunteer and got to make lots of choices about the foods available on the day I arrived. I was given so much food that I sat in my car and cried for 20 minutes before I could drive away. I sang songs of praise and gratitude at home because I didn't have to worry about food for an entire month. The Panty sets out to give each client 2 weeks worth of groceries. However, I received so much that it lasted me an entire month. Every meal I made was something that I thoroughly enjoyed. I even received toiletries and dog food for my service dog. I know there are people out there who need help and shy away from asking for it. I know there are people who are ashamed of going to food pantries. I would not brag that I needed help but I would brag that there were kind, considerate, compassionate people at Family Sharing who helped me without making me feel any less human. I am happy to share this review with those who find it. I hope you will share it with someone who needs it. I used to be a teacher. I used to be a soldier. I used to be a social worker. I worked for the City of Milwaukee. I've worked for the City of Chicago. I've volunteered for the Red Cross and I've helped many people all over the world. I've driven food boxes all over the State when I could. I never thought I'd need help myself. I've seen the effects of hunger on children and the elderly. Don't stand by and let someone you know struggle with hunger. Please take them to the kind of people I found at Family Sharing. If they won't go, find a distribution site that gives out boxes and pick up a box to take to them. You could save someone's life and you might not ever know you did so! Family Sharing also has a resale shop on the property. If you want to support their mission. Shop in the resale shop. Volunteer in the Pantry. You never know, one day, the tide may turn! I was in line to do an amazon return, waiting for the lady in front of me being helped. I could see that the rep (her name was Liz, with short white hair and frames glasses) was very nice and helpful to the customer who was having trouble getting her amazon pick up order. As she was finishing up, a few more people came behind me to the line, and one of the customers walked past the line to the front. She was there to pick up an amazon item too. Apparently her code wasn't working properly, and she voiced it. As soon as Liz was done with her current customer, she told the gal that was having problems with the pick up order that she could help her. I had been waiting in line, but not a word was spoken to me, and Liz never asked me if it was ok for her to help someone else first even though I had been waiting a while there. In fact, she never did say anything to me throughout the entire time I was there. The gal picking up her order actually told Liz to help me first, since I was in line, and that she could wait (very polite on her end!). At which point, I expected Liz to say something to me. All she did was wave me over. Then she just waited without saying a word or looking up at me, until I gave her the return item and showed her my code. She did say one thing to me at the end of the transaction: "here's your code for $5 off." That was all. Then as I was leaving, I saw and heard Liz greet the customer behind me with a smile. So I don't want to be paranoid, but I was the only Asian in the store. And I did look scruffy because I had come from just taking a walk in my leggings and workout top, with my hair pulled back, while the other customers looked pretty and fresh. But I hope it's not Kohl's policy that customers take a shower and dress nice to get polite customer service.

However, the few times I have been forced to ask for help with something while shopping at this Meijer, I've invariably been met with palpable disdain from managers and employees at having to be bothered by a customer. It's really quite alarming how consistent it's been, despite the fact that I am a polite person who remembers to preface with "please" and end with "thank you". On top of that, if you see something on sale, you MUST take a picture of the shelf label, because it will almost never scan at that price. $2 item that says buy one get one free? Nope, they're going to scan at $4.99 each. They also go for weeks without restocking basic items. Aside from these issues, it would be a great store, but it suffers due to the employees' resentment. If it's because they're not paid enough, I sympathize, as everyone in retail deserves more than what they're paid, but at the same time, you know the amount when you take the job.
