My friend tried on a few pairs of shoes, as we were lucky enough to be shopping when a new assortment had just arrived. The woman working was lovely and elegant who offered assistance and patience. There is much more product in the store than I initially anticipated and one could spend a fair amount of time browsing everything from womens and mens apparel to dog accessories to cook books to candies. There are many unique items that make fun gifts for relatives and friends; I often come here to find something for that hard-to-shop-for person. I have been in this store many times and it is always clean and well organized. The associates are friendly. However, a strange phenomenon occurs in this space. Time does not seem to exist. Not for the customers, not for the employees, just not at all. Ever. Don't get me wrong, the calm atmosphere is relaxing and I dont enjoy the hustle and bustle ever. It's often a neccessary evil. However, it should not take 40 minutes to make a simple exchange with 2 cashiers and a customer at each register. When an older lady tried to cut in front of me in line, after I waited all that time, I nearly lost my cool. The snail's pace is my only issue about this store. I recently fell on hard times and had to rely on…read morethis food pantry for groceries and I am swallowing my pride to write about this experience in hopes it helps someone else out there. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. There are still kind people in the world who will help and not judge you. Family Sharing Food Pantry is a wonderful non-profit organization that helps people, like me, when they need it. I was able to call and ask for the help I needed. When I arrived I felt welcomed by friendly volunteers who chatted with me and my service dog. They were kind and pleasant. I was nervous and very ashamed. Nobody made me feel like a charity case or like I was less human. It was just like going to a grocery store. I walked through with a volunteer and got to make lots of choices about the foods available on the day I arrived. I was given so much food that I sat in my car and cried for 20 minutes before I could drive away. I sang songs of praise and gratitude at home because I didn't have to worry about food for an entire month. The Panty sets out to give each client 2 weeks worth of groceries. However, I received so much that it lasted me an entire month. Every meal I made was something that I thoroughly enjoyed. I even received toiletries and dog food for my service dog. I know there are people out there who need help and shy away from asking for it. I know there are people who are ashamed of going to food pantries. I would not brag that I needed help but I would brag that there were kind, considerate, compassionate people at Family Sharing who helped me without making me feel any less human. I am happy to share this review with those who find it. I hope you will share it with someone who needs it. I used to be a teacher. I used to be a soldier. I used to be a social worker. I worked for the City of Milwaukee. I've worked for the City of Chicago. I've volunteered for the Red Cross and I've helped many people all over the world. I've driven food boxes all over the State when I could. I never thought I'd need help myself. I've seen the effects of hunger on children and the elderly. Don't stand by and let someone you know struggle with hunger. Please take them to the kind of people I found at Family Sharing. If they won't go, find a distribution site that gives out boxes and pick up a box to take to them. You could save someone's life and you might not ever know you did so! Family Sharing also has a resale shop on the property. If you want to support their mission. Shop in the resale shop. Volunteer in the Pantry. You never know, one day, the tide may turn! With a funeral to attend, I didn't have time to visit another store for my son's dress pants, so I had to navigate self-checkout, needing assistance a couple of times. I was told this is Kohl's policy. On my drive home, I reflected on the lack of assistance and decided to contact the store manager to express my dissatisfaction. When I called the store, the person who answered said the manager was unavailable and that she was in charge. I asked for her name and title, but she refused to provide them, after expressing my concerns with the lack of customer service, she reiterated that this was the direction corporate wanted them to take with customers. I will only be returning to the store to return the items I didn't need. I tried to call corporate office and was unable to speak to someone about my concern. However, the few times I have been forced to ask for help with something while shopping at this Meijer, I've invariably been met with palpable disdain from managers and employees at having to be bothered by a customer. It's really quite alarming how consistent it's been, despite the fact that I am a polite person who remembers to preface with "please" and end with "thank you". On top of that, if you see something on sale, you MUST take a picture of the shelf label, because it will almost never scan at that price. $2 item that says buy one get one free? Nope, they're going to scan at $4.99 each. They also go for weeks without restocking basic items. Aside from these issues, it would be a great store, but it suffers due to the employees' resentment. If it's because they're not paid enough, I sympathize, as everyone in retail deserves more than what they're paid, but at the same time, you know the amount when you take the job.
