A good cobbler is hard to find! In days of yore folks used to purchase a pair of shoes and keep them for a while. They would have them repaired, resoled, or spruced up. To do this you needed a good, reliable cobbler. Someone with skills, that you could count on to take care of your leather goods, and restore them when needed. Sadly these craftsmen are becoming harder and harder to find. Perhaps it's because our consumer obsessed society just buys cheap shoes and throws them out after a season, when they start falling apart. Instead, I prefer to purchase a better quality shoe, and keep it for many years. This requires the aforementioned cobbler, and I have found one in Menomonee Falls at John's Shoe Shop. I recently brought them a third pair of boots (having done work for me twice before), and they did an excellent job replacing the heels and giving them a general cleaning up. They look brand new! I find their work to be very reasonably priced! They always provide excellent customer service, and the shop is packed with many shoe related items. I also picked up a pair of boot trees to keep my newly refurbished boots nice and straight. When I picked up my boots, I noticed a bunch of biker leathers hanging, waiting to be picked up also. So it's fair to say that he repairs coats and chaps and just about anything made of leather. So next time, spend a bit more for a better pair of shoes and get them tended to at John's Shoe Shop. You'll be pleased, and in the long run it might help keep stuff out of the landfills. read more

I do terrible damage to my heels. I always lose those plastic/rubber tips on the bottom and I usually scuff or tear up the backs of high heels pretty well too. I dropped off two pairs of knee-high boots and one pair of pumps about a week ago, and just got them back yesterday. They look brand new! Not only did they replace the missing rubber heel tips on all six shoes, but they made sure the heels were even, fixed places where the leather was a little roughed up and shined them all - including disguising some scuffs. The shoes look much better than I was expecting and I'm very happy. I'm wearing a 7 year old pair of boots today and two different people asked me if they were new! All for about $32. Definitely recommend. Only reason I didn't give five stars was that I didn't drop off or pick up my shoes, so I don't know how their face-to-face service is. read more

A good cobbler is hard to find! This one is worth his weight in gold! The owner is a 3rd generation cobbler. The work is top notch....you will not find better craftsmanship anywhere.....PERIOD!!! You will be given an honest assessment of your shoes and/or leather goods needing repair...I have seen them work miracles, but keep in mind, not everything can be fixed in today's throw-away world. They sewed up a heavy canvas bag that I hang on the back of my wheelchair. The strap was starting to separate from the bag. I expected to leave it there but he said he could do just do it quick. He even reinforced the rest of the stitching all the way across. I think itt was very reasonable I just remember leaving HAPPY! The stitching is still strong and it's been over a year. read more
