I made a big mistake by moving from a home that was very close to the Baylor Clinic and now I have to drive 50 miles through Houston's traffic but I'm still doing it and will as long as I can make the drive, which unfortunately may not be much longer. If you need a Doctor then pick a good one in Dr. Matthew Scott Horsfield, all in all you will not find a better one.

What I don't appreciate is when medical practitioners get offended when you ask questions, or challenge theories when it comes to your own health. It is my body and my life, I think every patient should ask questions and challenge conventional theories. I have a thyroid issue. I am trying to find ways to heal it. I have been seeing Dr. Horsefield for maybe 5 years now, and have noticed passive aggressiveness before... but what I recently experienced is clearly unacceptable. I saw him for my regular annual appointment 3 months ago. My TSH levels were too high, so I got on some thyroid supplements and we retested about 6 weeks later. The results came in and the TSH levels were too low. I have since readjusted my medication and sent him an email politely asking if he could order the bloodwork to retest my levels so I can ensure i am now healthy and found the right balance. His response was callous. I have attached a photo with the passive aggressive response, where he makes it clear that he wont put the test in the system because he doesn't get paid for "answering emails, ordering tests, reviewing tests, communicating test results and maintenance of records" ..... REALLY? Aren't those tasks associated with being a doctor? I would be happy to pay him, for me it isn't about the money at all. In addition, clearly SOMEONE is getting paid when I order these lab tests because I'm charged thousands of dollars for them. All I need though is the bloodwork.... and he doesn't have availability for 2 months!?! I'm extremely disappointed that someone in the healthcare field is so much more concerned about their wallet than their patients health. Also if he wanted to charge me a processing fee that is fine, but his solution is clearly not in my best interest to wait 2 months and potentially do irreversible damage to my body.

But, what can you do when he is located in the heart of Chinatown and can speak Vietnamese well to offer service to the older generation that isn't fluent in English? An attentive doctor and being fluent in his native tongue is going to be a popular one. Some things I want to point out is that the staff is average...I don't feel welcome sometimes because they don't say much but I brush it off since my agenda is to see the doctor. The bathrooms are clean and the clinic also has a room to draw blood so you can get that done there. Overall, he is really nice and enthusiastic. Once for heart disease (required a triple bypass surgery in 2001) and once for breast cancer (2008). He caught signs and symptoms very early on, and she was able to make a recovery in both instances. He also was an invaluable help when I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. He took the time to sit with me explaining how it was going to change my life, but not to let it get me down. He truly listens to his patients needs. In a world where medicine has become about how much profit can be made, its nice to find a physician who still genuinely cares about the needs of his patients and responds to each of them as if they were his only appointment for the day. Getting an appointment is fairly easy, I've always been able to get in same day for major items, and within a day or two for minor issues. Parking is a little tight, but there is a blood lab in the same facility (suite 15) so that is quite convenient. And he never makes fun of me for having a fear of needles and still being a big baby when it comes to them.

I called to book an appointment. Lisa answered the phone, said they wouldn't have any appointments till the end of July. I said "hold on let me tell you my symptoms", told her my symptoms and that "I also had spoke to the doctor on call the night before and she said to call first thing in the morning to get in". Lisa did not care. In a chipper condescending tone, she replied well if you can't wait for an appointment then go to the emergency room or find another doctor. This was said & done with out speaking to the doctors in the office. It's sad when staff run a business like this.
