Tomato desert. Looks cool but don't order this. Yuk

The food was visually pretty but was not good. Not worth the $ at all. I would suggest trying the other restaurants here as there are a ton. By far the most expensive restaurant we ate at, with the worst food. Service was only okay but not great. Ambiance was nice. Don't waste your time or having a meal here. The catch of the day was just a piece of fish with nothing notable about it. Deserts were awful. One of them with mezcal ice cream was passed around the table and we were all in awe that this was even served it was simply inedible and gross. The 'tomato' desert was also the texture of gel and not sweet and lacked any flavor at all. Very underwhelmed and charged for some amazing experience. Save your $!

The food is so delicious, we didn't leave a single crumb. Service was amazing. I wish I had taken more pictures, but we devoured everything. Presentation was also beautiful.

Amazing experience! The restaurant is located at the Punta Mita Kupuri Beach Club. From the drinks to the meal to dessert. Everything was delicious!

Hector is a gifted chef presenting very unique flavor combinations. This place is an unexpected hidden gem. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Alfonso, was very friendly and clearly enjoyed the food as he relished and describing everything in great detail. The Ambiance was lovely. My favorite dishes were the sweet potato truffle tortellini and the raw fish appetizer, not pictured.

Wow- from the moment you arrive they do not disappoint. I'll add that we had our almost 2 year old with us who quickly through a small tantrum but because of the great location and walk around the exterior pool he was quickly consoled. I must say the food, the ambiance, and the overall service was incredible!! We recommended it to 3 other couples at our resort down the street. Would highly recommend.

The most exquisite dining experience in Riviera Nayarit requires venturing outside the luxury resorts to Hector's Kitchen, a lovely restaurant centrally located in the town of Punta de Mita that combines authentic flavors of Mexico with worldly sophistication. Award-winning Chef Héctor Leyva transforms quality, locally sourced ingredients into distinctly Mexican culinary masterpieces that so very quickly disappear from the plate and, yet, leave lasting satisfaction. Start your evening with some of Hector's elegant and refreshing cocktails--we recommend the Mita Fizz and Nayar Tiki. While enjoying our first of several cocktails, we ordered two flavorful appetizers: Kataifi Shrimp, succulent jumbo shrimp wrapped in crunchy pastry drizzled with a sweet pineapple sauce, and Short Rib Rolls which features tasty ribs drenched in curry sauce, topped with cashews and apple and daikon slaw. The varied textures of the tender and crunchy ingredients and the combinations of sweet and savory, create delightful culinary juxtapositions. Oaxaca, the chef's home state, is known for its rich culinary traditions and its equally rich, often cocoa-infused, molés. You simply must order at least one signature molé entrée at Hector's Kitchen; we ordered two: Duck Magret and Pork Belly Confit. The meat was perfectly cooked and served with decadent dark sweet and spicy sauces. The meal ended with a dessert grand finale--Oaxacan Chocolate Mousse--a chocolate shell shaped like a cocoa pod which cracked open to reveal a delicious chocolate and raspberry mousse. The staff at Hector's Kitchen was very friendly and the service, prompt and attentive. The restaurant features an open kitchen which enhances your dining experience, allowing you to watch the chef, and his team, work their magic. Chef Héctor Leyva's desire to share his gift for good food is not only seen in the fantastic meals he delivers, but also, in the variety of experiences that Hector's Kitchen offers, including cooking classes and market tours in English or Spanish.

Hector's was incredible. All the food was amazing. --Also really have to shout out how well they keep up. We ordered two minutes before a party of 18 and only 5 min before a party of 8. They both are within 15 min of us and it is hard to plate everything for that many all at once. What a hard working awesome small business! App-pork belly taco, succulent but crispy, avocado mousse was delightful. And the salsa pairing was perfect. Entrees- short rib entree and shrimp entree Short rib fell apart and mushroom risotto was excellent. Shrimp was cooked perfect, although not crazy about the red mole sauce. Dessert- churros---must get! Sea salt caramel and coffee creamer brûlée--different than what you think of with regular Crème brulee. To me tasted as If crème brûlée and bread pudding consistency had a baby and made this crème brulee. Amazing!! Only tried the marea Rosa? For drinks. Best drink I have had the whole trip in punta Mita. I've heard from some that the ambience at Hector's is not as good because it's not on the water. Well to that I say, the food is amazing. Not everyone can have waterfront property and he's a small restaurant and not a chain! Support those doing BIG things in smaller spaces :)

    Roasted beet salad

Upscale restaurant offering contemporary Mexican cuisine. The roasted tomato salad was good and the roasted beet salad was even better. The green curry was tasty fresh and a generous serving. The pork belly was excellent with the pork belly being crispy and tasty but, the star of the dish was the moly which is probably the best I've ever had outside of homemade. If you're in the area this place is a must try.

What a gem in Punta Mita! We were staying nearby at the W, and I'm glad we made the trip to check it out (around a 15 min ride). We came for dinner and it was fabulous from start to finish. There are many creative cocktails, and they were all delicious. We split the Gordita for an appetizer, and it was amazing - so flavorful! For entrees, I had the catch of the day with totoaba, and my husband had the short ribs. We ended the meal with two desserts - the chocolate mousse and the corn cake. Both were fantastic, and we were stuffed. Looking at the website, I discovered the cooking classes. We signed up a few days after our dinner, and I am SO glad we did. It was so fun! The chef was so great at explaining everything. We started with two enormous freshly caught fish, and ended with three delicious seafood courses, each paired with a cocktail or beer. We finished with a carajillo (my new favorite dessert cocktail) and some ice cream. When we come back to Punta Mita, we will absolutely be back to Hector's. We will be back for a meal, and I would love to take the cooking class again! Highly, highly recommend for a great experience and phenomenal food.

Wife and I enjoyed a great dinner here. There was no alcohol because it was elections. Not as many people in the restaurant because of that. We ordered a wrapped short rib, raw seafood tostada and pork belly taco for appetizers. I loved the short rib. My wife likes the tostada. For entrees my wife got the short rib and I ordered the grilled octopus. They subbed out the mashed potatoes on the octopus for cauliflower. They asked if I wanted it purée or grilled then brought me both! Service was super attentive, clean restaurant and a great environment. Great spot with local ownership. Check it out.

Best restaurant in Punta de Mita by far. It doesn't have the beach and view but the food is amazing from the sweet potato tortellini to pork rib tacos, octopus, and Mahi catch of the day. And the desserts were great too.

The burrito gods are looking down on Tail of the Whale, smiling from ear to ear. I don't know why this place has never been recommended to me when staying on the Punta Mita compound, as I only found it through a google search. Maybe the burrito gods wanted me to earn this. Little did they know I'm from Manhattan Beach, where nothing is given, everything is earned. This spot has been a CRUCIAL find for me because I've found it tough to get an elite breakfast in the area. They have everything from waffles to chilaquiles to pancakes to a protein omelette to the aforementioned breakfast burrito blessed by the gods. Some free game here, you'd be a FOOL to not start with the pastry basket. Bread basket kinda weak tho, skip that. It has an absolute scenic view while being completely shaded by the clubhouse roof, as it overlooks the driving range of the golf course which is overlooked by the Puerto Vallarta Mountains in the distance. I also NEED to shoutout this glassware, as it ties together the entire space. This glassware was so unreal that we went and found them and bought 8 of them lol. Idk, I get inspired by the weirdest things sometimes. I could tell you where we got them but I'm gate keeping that I already give y'all enough.
