Great spot for a relaxed but still very high end meal with great service. The bread and butter were a delicious start, along with the wide selection of fruit (brought on a tray) for our water. We always like to have dinner at Azafran when we visit PV. They were celebrating their 7 years with a special fixed menu, 4 courses and accompanying wine selections. I am not a usual fan of white wine, but the white rioja served with the first course opened my eyes. We each had the New York steak as our main course selection; there was salmon as the other option. The steak was to die for. I have not had a tender, melt in your mouth, steak as this since having wagyu in Japan! Along with their usual excellent service and wine selections, it was a wonderful experience. The anniversary special is only until Dec. 12th. If not available, you can not go wrong with their typical menu selections. read more

This is fine dining in PV. Ambiance is quiet fine relaxing no pressure atmosphere. Waiters are friendly, engaging and responsive. 5 course meal is a bit expensive where you can easily pick the best of them from menu to make your own set. Regardless, Foods are amazing. Coco Almonds sauce on braised lemon chicken simply took it to next level! Figs with melted goat cheese are so delicious, it's a dance of sweet and salty on your tongue! Seafood risotto was so complete with good combination of seafood varieties. Portions are reseasonably sufficient. Complementary shot of saffron limoncello was just the hit on the nail! We had the pleasure of dining at Azafran last night. What a wonderful experience in service and food. So many amazing choices of salads, entrees and appetizers. My husband had the octopus and I had pumpkin ravioli. Both were outstanding. The wine list was impressive and the waiter assisted us on picking a delicious red wine from Mexico. Want a reprieve from the frenetic tourist activity? This place is relaxing and a great way to end the day. With 4 experienced and high class waiters, they provide constant attention to detail. We started with a fig appetizer and the soup of the day. We heard about the lamb dish and it was supreme: tender, juicy, and succulent. The beef dish was very generous and cooked perfectly to my medium done level. We topped it off with an espresso and vanilla dessert and some limoncello with saffron. Azafrán was one of our top food experiences during our recent week in Puerto Vallarta, both in service and food experience. We stayed a couple blocks from here, strolled past it one evening while in the midst of a "where do you wanna eat?" conversation. Nick (shout out to our server), happened to standing on the street corner and invited us in at the right moment (Mediterranean was already on our list of cuisines for the evening). Inside, we ordered cocktails from the mixology menu. I tried a Choco-rita, which was delicious. She had the Mezcal Margarita, a smoky take on the Mexican classic, also fantastic. I also tried the Pistachio & Anise Martini, not a home run but a fun experiment. Off the menu, we went for the Shrimp over mango guacamole, a sweet & savory delight topped with beautifully seasoned shrimp. Then there was the greatness of Watermelon Gazpacho. She tried the Quinoa Bonbons which were *outstanding*, as much as the title sounds like a recipe for blandness. The flavor collision was unexpected, combining sauce, garnish, texture. Complementary bread came in multiple varieties. Our favorite was the olive soda bread. I also had a pasta dish that was on the special menu that was creamy, flavorful, and filling. Service was beyond excellent. Once we were the only customers, the other we were one of four tables. In both cases the service was exactly the same. We will enthusiastically repeat Azafrán on future trips to PV. If only we could get there from Texas for a date night! read more

This restaurant is flawless. From reserving a table to taking care of the check every aspect of service was perfect. Our server, Victor, and the entire restaurant staff were mindful of the pace of our meal. We never felt rushed nor neglected. As it should be. Cocktails and water service was prompt upon being seated. After drinks were served and given a correct amount of time to settle in, food orders were taken. Starters came out after a modest wait and were clearly prepared with care. We had the grilled asparagus plate and the artisanal ham plate. As we were only a party of two it was difficult to choose only two small plates from their offerings as not to stuff ourselves too early on! Both of our small plates were not small. Generous potions beautifully plated. Almost felt like a crime to dig in, but dig in we did. And we were not disappointed. Ham was thinly sliced (as it should be) and still felt decadent... especially with the ripe figs, cheese, curled cumber and other accompaniments that came with this dish. The asparagus plate was perfectly prepared. The spears were firm and bright green and warmed but not boiled to mush. A tougher balance with thin and tender spears. Garnishes on the dish were also amazing. The star of the show was an onion compote that left us scraping the plate. My entree was El Res... nut crusted filet of beef with puree of the day, asparagus and beef demi served on the side. My partner had the catch of the day, which today was sea bass served with a tomato relish over risotto. Again, both dishes were perfectly prepared. We savored every bite. Plates were cleared and dessert was offered. We were already full, but could not refuse. We shared a lava cake and a snifter of Drambuie. Out server let us know that the lava cake was baked to order and would take 12-15 minutes but brought our cordial out right away. The lava cake was worth the wait. Perfect cake on the outside with a sinful warm chocolate interior. This also came with vanilla cream and assorted fruit and berries as a garnish. Victor also threw in a small scoop of of their pistachio ice cream as he overheard us waffling over what dessert to share. Very nice touch. After dessert plates were cleared, we were served complimentary snifters of lemoncello Such a nice way to end a meal, especially in a warm climate. We only come to Puerto Vallarta once a year. Lots of people come for the beach. I come for the food. And Azafrán has some of the best I've had. read more

Fantastic flavorful food. We loved it. First, of all They bring a tray of sliced oranges, lemons, limes, cucumber and grapefruit that you can chose for your water. They also bring bread and a fabulous arugula dip that tasted like garlic the margarita, and different wines, were just okay. (For such a nice restaurant, the wine glasses need an upgrade) We started with the ceasar salad and the artichokes for appetizers and they both were delicious For the mains we had the pork belly and the seafood risiotta (the squid was mind blowing) They brought us a complimentary lava cake dessert for our anniversary but we told them it wasn't our anniversary but they let us have it, and it was great. Happy anniversary to somebody My husband paid the traveling band thst came by $12 usa to sing to us. They were good It's really almost a 5 star expereinecen except for the service. We were pretty much ignored the entire meal, no refills (we got one glass of tap water that sat empty the entire meal) , no checking up, and had to wave down someone to get more wine. No interaction. The worst part was we sat a long time after table cleared waiting for check. We had a show to go to! I finally had to get up and go ask bartender to get our check as we had a show to go to. They finally brought the check, I again said, "we have to get going as we have a show soon" as I handed over the credit card. Again, we waited and waited. This time we both had to get up and ask bartender to process the cc, but he said he had to go find our waiter. UGH. We will defientely come back for the food and NOT have a show to go to afterwards We then saw Sutton Lee Seymour show across the street at Palm Cabaret....And that was so fun read more

Azafrán in the Zona Romántica of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, was PERFECT in every way! This review is a few weeks late (dinner Oct 17th 2020). Chef Andreas Fischer and his team first opened in October of 2017 and have been serving "innovative Mediterranean cuisine with refined European technique" as per their website, ever since. Excellent, friendly service and an inviting and well appointed space. We found Azafrán while walking thru the Zona Romántica and what a great find it was. Appetizers: Yellow Pepper Soup with Shrimp Raffaello - the best soup I've ever had! Tuna Carpaccio with Coriander Lime Dressing - delicious. Entrees: Beef Ragout a la Stroganoff with Spatzle - sooo good! Catch of the Day with Sautéed Tomatoes, Olives, Almonds & Avocado, with Saffron Rice - DELICIOUS! Another fantastic dinner in Puerto Vallarta! The restaurant was able to seat 12 of us at short notice and I'm so happy they were able to because the food was phenomenal. Service was very good. We had probably 3 people manning the table, there was one snafu with an incorrect meal, which we'll put down to lost in translation, but 1 out of 12 in a country that apeaks Spanish with a table of people who mostly spoke English isn't bad! The food....WOW! I mean, cooked to perfection, amazing flavor profiles, beautiful presentation and really unique menu that easily catered to everyones tastes. It was also my birthday and someone at the table let it be known and I got the whole treatment with the singing and a dessert etc. the chef even came out and shook my hand! This place is amazing and the food quality for the price is unbelievable. Extraordinary food, service and ambiance. One of the top 5 meals of my life. We immediately made another reservation to come again before we even got our check. The service was beyond fantastic and the early bird menu was spectacular and such a great deal (soup or salad with glass of wine and entre). I highly recommend the pear and celery soup (best soup I've ever had) and the chicken thigh with beet risotto was just as amazing (I would NEVER order beet anything normally). For comparison, we also went to Iguana at Casa Kimberly which was a great experience but the food here is better! read more

We have eaten here 3 times in 5 days. Each time we come, it gets better. I don't know how to put into words how marvelous the food, service, and ambience are at this amazing restaurant. The beef filet, the salmon, the lamb cabbage rolls, and the stuffed chicken were so good that my mouth will water for those flavors for months. I've passed by this restaurant hundreds of times, it never seems busy. Their name on the sign is very hard to read so even trying to looking it up didn't seem worth the effort. My husband and I are here for two weeks so we decided we would try it and we are staying close by so tonight we stopped in. It's a nice space. Nick was our waiter and very competent. They were still serving the restaurant week menu so we tried it. Everything was delicious. They have some nice signature cocktails and a decent wine list with some good Mexican wines. We have been to PV several time and never tried this place until now. Sad it took us so long to do so. The service, drinks, and food were stellar. The sautéed asparagus was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The short rib fell of the bone and was probably one of the best we have had in PV. The lamb and cabbage also had great flavor. 100% recommend this place. It's definately more fancy than some, but shorts and a t-shirt are fine. The staff were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Give it a try. I don't think you will regret it. read more

This elegant dining from an executive chef from Germany Andreas knocked my socks off tonight. Let me start by saying the menu was full of things that I am not familiar with so I just chose to venture out and taste the blended flavors of the unknown. I was impressed by the chicken with zucchini, cheese and olives of course described with words of wonder. For dessert I had the chocolate lava cake that was fresh out of the oven waiting to explode from the internal heap of decadent chocolate just like lava from an active volcanic eruption. I felt like I was at an episode of the food network as I stared at the well presented plate filled with imagination and personality. Would recommend and will be back. Thanks chef!! read more

I had the Salmon and my wife had the stuffed chicken breast. The food was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I highly recommend Azafran for dinner.
