Went in to see if Dr. Oda could help the pain in my knees. Started off with laser procedures for about 8 wks. It still wasn't better. So we then started several weeks of deep tissue massage. I saw a recurring add for "Double Chin Rescue" for $37 on Instagram. I'm getting old and can absolutely use a little lifting, tightening and improvement to my jawline contour. These are the advertised benefits for this service. I made an appointment and paid a deposit of $17 to make the appointment. Strangely, I received numerous confirmation text messages and phone calls. Upon arrival, I was asked to fill in forms unlike those I have seen in any other doctor's office. This was my second clue that something was fishy. The forms were not written by a lawyer or anyone who knows how to write HIPAA-compliant patient intake forms. They were slanted towards marketing and threats that they had a choice as to whether or not to take me as a client; I had to prove that I needed their services. They asked for confidential health information but said they would not provide any confidentiality and could use information about me and my photos for marketing. I was wondering why a legitimate doctor would not hire or could not afford a lawyer to write these forms correctly, and would not follow the laws about patient privacy. Next, I was moved to small closet/room where I was forced to watch commercials about the services provided at this clinic. These were "conversations" with local talk-show hosts where they spoke with Dr. Oda. They repeatedly called him doctor, although it turns out that he has no medical licenses or education. After being shut in there for 15-20 minutes. He came in to talk to me. He told me that the services I wanted will cost $4000 for 4 treatments, but he was willing to give them to me for $2000. When I asked about the ad that I responded to, he told me that didn't always work the first time. But I was allowed to try it. He spent a minute attempting to explain the layers of skin and mentioning something about stem cells. He didn't really seem to understand it. He asked if I could afford the treatments. He didn't ask about health conditions or in any way appear to care about me, it was all about the money. Basically, that meeting felt like a shakedown and an up-sell to try to get me to use other services for weight loss. I was willing to consider the 4 treatments, if the first one had any results. I decided to try it. For $37 it seems like a good way to find out if it was worth making the bigger investment. For approx. 15 minutes I laid on a bed with something placed on my neck. Afterwards, I was returned to the small room and he immediately asked if I would pay $2000. I was not provided a mirror until I asked whether the treatment had any effect. He said it didn't always work and later treatments could be turned higher. Finally, he gave me a mirror and my neck was exactly the same. I explained that it did not make sense to pay $2000 for treatments that did not appear to work. He kept trying to get me to pay $2000. He said there was a different secret type of laser that only he has that he could use. At this point I almost laughed at the idea that there could be a secret laser that no other plastic surgeons or even med spas would have, that was effective, and only used and known by Dr. Oda. I asked him if he went to medical school. He said he did not. I asked him if he had any medical license in the state of Hawaii. He said he did not. I asked him if it was legal to practice medicine like this without any license. He said that the nurses are licensed and he works under their licenses. He said that he went to Palmer chiropractic school in San Jose, CA. Curious about whether this was true, I looked at the list of graduates of Palmer Chiropractic College in San Jose who work in Hawaii, Dr. Oda is not on the list. I searched the state of California database of licensed chiropractors to see if he was ever licensed there. He was not. There was one Doctor Oda who is now 75 years old and has a Los Angeles address. His license expired and was cancelled in 2012. Basically, it appears that this man is not a doctor of any sort. If he went to chiropractic school, he didn't graduate and was never licensed to practice in California. He is not licensed in Hawaii. Nurses are not supposed to have other people working under their license. They are supposed to be supervised, not supervise fake doctors. Ive read the other reviews where people get benefits from the lasers at this clinic. I am not saying that it is not possible that they work in some cases. I just find this guy and this business very sketchy. I told him that I do not trust him. And I am sharing this story so that other people do not get coerced by his hard-selling techniques to buy services at very high prices. read more

I spent over $4,000 for the hair growth treatment. I was told it would not only increase hair growth but change my white hair back to the original color. It doesn't work. I went in for the hair grow treatment which cost $4000 and it didn't work. There were several red flags. First, the one and only time I saw Dr.Oda he showed me a picture or two on his phone. When I asked about the other pictures and the progress of a different part of my head, he said he didn't have that picture and had to get it. They take many pictures, why wouldn't you show progress from all parts of your head. When I did my final results consultation, I questioned the data and the person answered but really didn't answer my question. They also said they would email me my results but I never got it. I chose this business for laser hair removal because it was one price for an area of the body with as many treatments needed, and this was because they were confident in their laser hair technology. Sorry but I need to be honest here. The staff is WONDERFUL, some (younger ones) seemed inexperienced and probably quite new. The procedure I had was EXPENSIVE, over $3,000. The only time I saw Dr. Oda was at my initial consultation, which really wasn't a consultation and mostly answers of yes, we can do that, it will not hurt. The procedure (where they stick little needles in my stomach and knees) really HURT, (and I have a high tolerance for pain) and I didn't want to continue, but I was obligated since I paid $$$$. And nothing changed! I also had the laser weight loss, this didn't change anything! I am very disappointed and feel very deceived. Dr. Oda & his staff are very nice, but are deceitful & do not follow through on their contracts. I went in for laser hair removal on my upper lip. Paid a large amount up front (over $500) & was told that all follow-up treatments would be covered - that I would pay just that one amount. Over a year later, I am still traveling in for follow-up treatments & was told yesterday that now I have to pay for any additional follow-up treatments - over $60 per session. I talked to Dr. Oda who gave lots of excuses for not following up on their original agreement (they fired the employee who told me the incorrect info, they had to purchase new technology,...). He offered me one more free treatment, said I'd have to pay the additional monies after that, & stated "Thanks for your understanding". Even when I stated that I do not "understand" them breaking their original agreement with me - I did not get anywhere. Again - HEC staff are very nice - but this is bad business & deceitful. The hair treatment was expensive, $4000. Everytime I went in to have the hair growth consultation with Dr. A. Oda, I'd have to wait 20-30 min. He would show the progress from his phone! I wouldn't know if that is my hair or anyone elses. For spending that much, and reviewing my progress with a picture from his phone, I think is skeptical. Did I see changes? Questionable. The last and final check up? He said, he can sell me a box of Nutrafol for way cheaper than I could get online, and to do another $700 treatment again. I went to get a mommy tuck where they poke you with needles. When I went to see the person performing my procedure she was going to do my face! So I explained to her it was supposed to be around my lower belly, inner and outer thighs. There's supposed to be three sessions and I went to only one that was incomplete. I explained to the front desk and they understood. I spoke with the Doctor and explained, I only got back 75% of my money considering it wasn't even a complete procedure. I was highly disappointed! What was I going to say to a doctor that had some personal issues at the time. My heart went out to him but I got ripped off definitely. Then yet he wants me to take a class to invest and that would cost money too. Hey he was nice but I felt it was unfair considering it was an incomplete procedure and I didn't tend to the other two. I just felt that it was totally unfair. I paid in cash in full almost 10,000 to round it off. I'm just highly disappointed and wouldn't recommend paying in full. This is just my opinion. I grade myself as the failure. I went in to try the trial mini laser treatment for weight loss. The staff were super friendly and polite, office very clean and relaxing in spite of the many patients going in and out. Dr. Oda very nice and pleasant. The problem I had was with myself. I wasn't prepared and my mind wasn't set to the commitment it would take to have the program work for me. I really believe their program does work. But me the patient needs to Want to change my eating habits and life style. I did quit smoking "cold turkey" after 34 years. It was the hardest habit I had to break but I WAS Ready. The staff was nice but as a previous reviewer stated, I wasn't paying for the nice staff. The laser weight loss treatments didn't work. Not once was my waist measurement taken and not once was there any consultation with Dr. Oda. The staff is very experienced and patient concerned. Treatment was great, I felt a large difference between before and after treatment in my feet and lower calfs. I have had numbness in both feet and legs for over 30 years, something I picked up in Vietnam, and have had nothing but medication offered me by all doctors. This treatment was above and beyond all the other doctors gave me. For those who suffer from Agent Orange issues, as I do, I would recommend this treatment. I feel it has done more than all the medication the doctors I have seen have given me. This clinic is amazing in the quality of service provided by Dr. Oda and his staff. From the receptionist who is so welcoming and helpful to the technicians who have treated my arthritic hip, the quality of services for laser treatment has been top notch. They have done their best to schedule my favorite technician, Hiromi. I am almost pain free thanks to her. I am trying to prevent another hip replacement and the laser treatment has been very successful in decreasing my pain tremendously. It is a relatively painless treatment, just a little heat over the area. I am able to get in and out of cars more easily, sleep without pain, pick up items, and stand up from sitting and lying with greater ease. I can walk and do stairs with no problem. I was able to go on vacation and climb up to the Acropolis and walk all over the Mediterranean ports. read more

After retiring from the Military 37 yrs I developed Frozen Shoulder, waking up in the middle of the night with extreme pain. My previous Doctor sent me to physical therapy and it didn't help. I still couldn't left my arms above my shoulder with out going through pain. One day looking through my Mid Week Ad and seen Dr. Oda Laser Treatment for Frozen Shoulder. Tried this medical clinic's laser weight loss program and it was a major waste of money. Watched a short video but it was not clear on how the laser works and what results one may expect. In consult with laser tech, my stated goal was to lose 20 pounds in 6 weeks and was told that was within range of expectations. After 18 treatments I paid $3000 to lose 10 pounds or $300 per pound lost. The 10 pounds lost was more attributed to my diet and exercise during treatment period which is expected as an essential part of overall treatment plan. Never felt the laser treatments really worked and contributed to any weight loss. My impression is the laser feature looks helps get patients to part with large sums of money because its "laser" and must be expensive. They never game me any specific progress reports. Just very general non-technical comments every 4 or more visits. Its called a Medical Clinic but never met Dr. Oda once. Not even a Hi or smile although he was in the office. Staff very "local" and friendly but the results were poor and expensive. My final impression, low cost laser and staff but high fees yield huge profits. Save your money. read more

This is a laser weight loss, laser facelift, laser pain/neuropathy clinic that charges exorbitant prices with no guarantees. I should have listened to my my gut feeling. Dr Oda doesn't even look you in the eyes. I felt rushed and pressured without much information about the procedures. Explanations of the charges were very confusing. Even the $37 fee for a procedure turned out to be only to be applied to a several thousand dollar procedure, which you are not told until after you have the procedure. Technician did a great job on my leg permanent laser hair removal. She made sure with me that I don't get tanned after I get the treatment because I could get blisters. HEC Medical Clinic, located at Ala Moana "mall-ish" is a medical clinic that claims to specialize in weight loss, laser procedures (hair removal, weight, and face lift) and other procedures. Instructions to get there: Driving down Ke'eaumoku St. toward Ala Moana Shopping Mall - Go up the ramp (to the mall), take your immediate right, take your next right at the stop sign. There is a parking attendant (sometimes). Park in any visitor stall or other stall instructed by HEC Medical Clinic. If you don't know if you're in the right place -- its the tall building with the "UFO" on top. I parked at the mall, fronting Genki Sushi. I found it easier this way. HEC Medical Clinic is on the 8th floor in room #808. When you get there you will be instructed by staff to remove your footwear. You will have to fill out whatever paperwork is standard for your appointment. You are then shown a short 5 minute video in their "consultation" room about weight loss, which I found odd, since I wasn't there for weight loss. Nonetheless, it was informative and showed individual testimonials of happy patients. I was also offered a small cup of alkaline water. You may have heard the radio ads from Dr. Oda. That's the reason why I checked out their website. I was interested in laser hair removal. Now, out of respect to HEC Medical Clinic, I wont go into detail about pricing. Though, I found it pretty off-setting before even arriving that nobody could give me price (or even an estimate) about the cost of their laser hair removal procedures. When I questioned what the average cost is, the person that I spoke to was very deflective. They kept saying "only the doctor can go over prices." Then I said, "does everyone get different pricing or something?" and they stated again, "only the doctor can go over pricing." Ok -- cool. I expected the cost to be very high (in comparison to laser hair removal in the area). I was not wrong. What I can say is that you have to buy packaged in quantities of 6 sessions. Additionally, Dr. Oda informed me that any sessions needed beyond 6 would be covered by HEC Medical Clinic and I would have no other out of pocket costs. That's actually kind of nice. When I expressed to Dr. Oda that I was not willing to pay that cost (since ive had treatments prior for less than 1/5th what he priced me at), he was kind enough to offer me a discount. Which made the price bearable but still over double what I can pay in the area for 6 sessions. Now, you may be thinking -- well if your previous sessions didnt work, how can you compare them? Ok -- fair. BUT they did work. I have recently been placed on a hormone medication which caused hair regrowth. Prior to that, I was care free and hair free (yes, you may take that line). I was just shopping around for other options. I understand that HEC Medical Clinic uses a state of the art laser system and that they back their product to the fullest, but, I explained that I've had laser treatments before...and at no time did anybody ask to see what my current "hair growth" looks like. This leads me to believe that someone with minimal hair and someone who is covered in hair, pay the same cost -- which brings me back to the skeptics behind not being told the cost over the phone. That could have saved me tons of time and effort. In closing, Dr. Oda is a nice guy. His staff are nice people. 3 stars since I didn't actually receive service and this review is simply based off of interaction with staff from start to finish. Would have loved to see testimonials from patients that received laser hair removal.
