Called to get an estimate for a new boiler replacement and representative told me there is an upfront fee of $165 plus tax for estimate that is deducted if they do the job. I've seen that before for repair estimates because that makes sense so company doesn't waste their time sending people out. But never for a 10k full replacement job. This is the only company I called that attempted to squeeze me for an estimate fee. I even told phone rep that this was for a replacement job not a repair estimate and he said he was well aware. They would not replace thermostat valve on 6 year old water heater. Technician tried to get me to buy a new one at 3 times the price I paid for this one. They wanted $1,300 + service call fee to replace thermostat valve on boiler. The last time I had this done it cost something like $200. I was finally available to have the Techs from Heatspan come through and adjust the system. Spoke to Lou and learned a lot and he made everything right. My basement is heated again after their steam tech made the necessary adjustments. We cant all be happy but we can always look to make things better. We had a very bad experience with Heatspan. We had a leak from a radiator, Heatspan came to look on a Friday, they said everything was fine until they came back Monday. On Monday they canceled and said they had to come Tuesday. By Tuesday we had a massive water issue on 3 floors of our building. The leak had gone through the floor and walls, down two floors, with water flowing from our ceiling and walls, destroying our 3 month old baby's room. The technician Lou who came today was rude and unpleasant. He opened a valve without preparing for it, and more water sprayed all over our living room. He was condescending and unprofessional, saying if I didn't trust what he had to say "I must have trust issues." He kept trying to sell me on buying an annual package with Heatspan, without explaining how he could fix the problem or prevent further leaks. BEWARE ! ! ! This review is really ZERO stars. They send/drop fliers in Brooklyn advertising $39.9 boiler service. Then, when you call on the phone, the service call is $165, not $39.99. When the technician arrived and looked at the improperly functioning boiler, he did not even bend over to inspect anything. He turned the switch on and off, and then said that we would have to replace two parts, at a total cost of ~$1,000. When I said I want a second opinion, he said that he was charging me $165 for the "service call", although no service was performed. The next day, another boiler engineer came and looked at it. The end of one small part needed to be cleaned; he scraped some build up off with some sandpaper, re-attached it, and it then worked perfectly. I was also told that the more expensive of the parts I had been told by Heatspan which needed replacing is something that almost never breaks or goes bad. In addition, I called several plumbing supply stores, and Heatspan was charging triple the price for these parts (which I did not need in the first place). Ultimately, nothing was broken, no parts needed replacing, and this job took about 15 minutes to unplug something, clean it for a minute, and plug it back in, and Heatspan wanted to charge me greater than $1,100 for the service call and parts which I did not need. They are trying to scam people that don't understand their equipment into buying wildly overpriced parts, and then to sell them an annual service plan. BEWARE ! ! ! read more

I had an appointment with HEATSPAN yesterday, 11/3/2020, per their $40 boiler checkup special. They had installed a new boiler in my home in 2015 at a cost of $6,000. When Louis arrived yesterday, it didnt take long for him to give me a "gloom & doom" prognosis that if I didnt have all the pipes in the basement replaced with brand-new copper ones, the boiler would soon fail and have to be replaced again. Next thing I know, he has me on the phone with Dayna to arrange a payment plan to have this job done at a cost of $3,500. Even if I agreed to it, the actual cost would be more since their payment plan would have you pay extra in Interest charges- its just like them being a credit card company and you're on the hook with them to eventually pay it off in full. I told Dayna I'd think it over, before having to provide personal info such as my Soc-Security number for them to do a credit background check. Update: I had a plumber who is a long time resident in my neighborhood look at the boiler this evening to get his evaluation. He did not see the urgent need to have any of the pipes replaced, as Louis from Heatspan was so insistent upon. In fact, the plumber did not even have anything good to say about the workmanship of the boiler that Heatspan installed only five years ago. He noted alot of sloppy work- wires hanging, an outlet installed upside down, and so forth. For the $6,000 I scraped up to pay back then, the boiler itself (made by Pennco) is not a high quality brand, and is a cheaper product that will probably not last as many years as a better-made boiler would. Needlesss to say, I am not happy at all to hear these things. I wish I knew the plumber a few years ago and had him do the job instead. My ADVICE: Please dont trust HEATSPAN, and if they tell you of some urgent need to do costly repairs, get a 2nd opinion from elsewhere, its worthwhile to simply ask friends/neighbors for referrals to reputable plumbers. By far the most unprofessional company I've EVER worked with. I got a boiler from them 5 years ago and have been paying them $25 for boiler insurance ever since. The one time i called the man on the phone who is so rude (and he was too busy to deal with me) not only tells me that "im not a customer" but continues to tell me I'd have to pay $85 for someone to come in DECEMBER (mind you it's October) to come and only check out the problem and then charge me to do the work. When i simply asked why couldn't i start the insurance again he figured that it was best to get an attitude instead of listening to the customer. This was a total waste of money and time. After seeing the commercial, I went to there site for more information. The site looked professional, and had a lot of information. it said they would perform a diagnostic of my heating system, and pin point the problem. I made the appointment, and thought I had made a good choice. When they arrived the went to the basement, an quickly assessed problem and cost. Without any of the formation diagnosis, or leaving the basement, they said a part had to changed, and the total would be about $500. I asked do you need to go upstairs and check the heating system ? He answered No, and they left. 3 days later I still had no heat. I called them back , and we made another appointment. Again no diagnosis, he drained some water and left. Thanksgiving was the coldest day , and I had NO HEAT. They did not live up to the advertisement, never did the service listed, charged me for a repair I did not need, and I still have no heat. I wish I had read the reviews before I called them! But I was in such a tizzy I didn't. I called Heatspan for a rattling noise coming from my heater. I scheduled an appointment between 9-10 am. The technician didn't show up until 1130 am. I called multiple times regarding his whereabouts and was told "he'll be there any minute" each time. He finally came and claimed to "fix" it by finding a pen inside. I thought it was fixed but I came home later that night only to find it started rattling again. I have been a Homeserve customer for about 30 + years However, a few months ago I received a flyer from Heatspan seeing that they were a Local company I decided to give them a shot Initially I was very impressed with Jose in Customer Service In fact I had an issue with my boiler less than a week into my contract and it was resolved immediately Recently more problems occurred and I called Jose on Saturday and Lou was sent to investigate I was at work and my wife met him and was very impressed with his knowledge I asked him if he could return on Sunday to go over the issues and he gladly agreed As a result we had a new boiler installed as well as a safety feature for our hot water heater and last but not least but new copper piping for the basement to replace the shoddy work that had previously been installed by someone I trusted Ilya pointed this out along with Lou and I'm glad they did All in all my experience with those I mentioned as well as a few other workers whose Names I didn't get was a positive experience They are all professional and do quality work I highly recommend Heatspan and I'm glad I switched Tom Kelly Marine Park read more

The first set of workers they sent to our house were very professional, they removed our water heater, and boiler. The second set of workers they sent were HORRIBLE. They began working at 11AM and didn't leave until after midnight. One of them was extremely rude! They left to get a part they said they needed and didn't return until 2 hours later! My toddler and elderly grandmother were in the house the whole time, and it was FREEZING. They didn't have an ounce of empathy, and were very condescending. I called heatspan on Sunday (Christmas) morning 7am when I realized we didn't have hot water. Just what I needed as I had guests coming over for Christmas and a house full of people that needed to shower, prepare, cook etc... I was shocked that they even answered. The man who answered the phone was so understanding and promised to have a tech at my house as soon as he could. The tech arrived by 7:45 and the thermocouple was changed and we had hot water by 9am. I paid 165$, which wasn't bad considering the timing and the urgency. I was just happy and thankful that they got someone out to us quickly. I got 2 other opinions and both said the boiler is in excellent condition and will last another 15 years at least. The price was on the higher side of the estimates I received from 2 other companies that offered cheaper prices but Heatspan's warranties presented longer coverage and I'm more concerned with being able to call them back if need be, and installation took 1 full day as opposed to 2 days. This program consists of taking old parts from other boilers and putting them on other people boilers after they have re-conditioned them. The tech try to take a old part that he just replaced off my boiler, but I kept it, and he was very up set. He broke a part on my boiler and when he had to come out and fix it within the warranty period for the work he was angry because I did not pay him, because the work was under warranty. He then told me my thermomter was broken I told him not to touch it and to get out. Another company came and fixed a loose connect that was disconnect by the Heatspan tech. Update, from 9/2015. The steel base chimney piece called a flue was removed to inspect the debris at the base of the boiler, not by Heatspan. This time very little soot & debris from September. We always have a professional do this & stand back because of the fumes but never looked in side. An inspection with a flash lite was done close up and THEIR IS A CHIMNEY LINER ALREADY INSIDE of the chimney that looks good. We don't know how long ago this was installed by a past relative. We were told by Heatspan that we must have this installed right away that it was so needed. I wish we could give no stars. We have also heard of chimneys being relined because of damage to the clay inside but a professional has to show you by video all damage. A very good liner is supposed to last for many years. Everything is a learning process especially when spending your hard earned money sometimes for nothing because of lack of knowledge. We will check our chimney often instead of twice a year. read more

I've been under contract with Heatspan for over two years and have received nothing but excellent service. I've lived in my house since 1999 and when I divorced in 2014 I decided to get a contract with Heatspan because my ex never did anything to upgrade anything in our house. After I bought him out I knew that I would eventually have to replace my chimney and boiler. I lived in my house without heat on the top floor because he decided it was warm enough with the two other zones heating the top floor, not the case when the temps went below 20 degrees. When the pump for the main floor went out I called Heatspan and they showed up within a half hour. The Heatspan representative showed up he checked the problem and informed me I needed a new pump he informed me of the price and informed me that if I was under contract I wouldn't have to pay for the pump so I asked him to sign me up, I also need to mention he fixed the top floor heating. After two months the pump for the basement broke and they came within an hour and replaced the pump, when I asked how much he informed me that it's covered under my contract. My attached neighbor was having their chimney done and their repair person knocked on my door and informed me that I should consider replacing my chimney lining because it had deteriorated and I should get a cap to prevent rodents. I thanked him and informed him I had a contract with a company. I called Heatspan to schedule a chimney check up they informed me that I definitely needed a new liner. The chimney is not covered under the contract but they offered a good price and they did excellent work and cleaned up all the debris. The other day when it got cold I turned on my boiler and heard a loud sound and saw smoke (it was actually steam) and water was pouring out of the boiler. My son and I ran to get the shop vac and we proceeded to suck up all the water while I was on the phone with Heatspan who sent a representative within 20 minutes. My son let them in while I was trying to contain the water. They swooped in and grabbed the shop vac and shut off the water and cleaned up all the water. I received the bad news that my boiler had cracked and I'd need a new one. Yes, it's expensive but as a home owner I know that everything has an expiration date and needs to be replaced. I checked around and the price I was quoted is within reason. I now have a brand new boiler with a 30 year guarantee in writing. My boiler broke down on Wednesday and it was removed on the same day. Next day i called a reputable boiler repair co. and they inspected boiler and said nothing was wrong, boiler could last many years to come. Instead I was persuaded and scammed into thinking I needed a thermo lead and thermostat change, but due to lack of knowledge I believed in their expertise and paid an extraordinary amount of money to replace parts that I later found out was not defective. I called the company back several times before they finally sent someone else with intentions of me paying more money for the problem they never fixed in the first place.
