Big Country breakfast bowl - I couldn't finish it!
    Melanie B.

My husband took a vacation day, so we decided to go out for breakfast. Hearth Room Cafe isn't far from us at all, but we had never been there. We chose to eat outside in the courtyard area and it was really nice out there. Our server was great! There was only one other couple seated outside and she was in and out often to fill our water glasses and coffee cups and bring our food. The food was good and served hot - I'm not a fan of eggs that aren't hot enough. The menu is large and has many different options. We looked at the lunch menu and it looked good as well. We're definitely planning on trying lunch there soon.

I've lived in this area off and on many years and I'm glad I tried this restaurant. The restaurant is in between two parking lots. I ordered the Classic Combo for breakfast, two scrambled eggs, ham, and wheat toast. It comes with breakfast potatoes. When the plate arrived at my table it all looked delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly, which for me means they weren't dried out from overcooking or a little runny from undercooking. The ham was 2 thin slices and lacking in taste that I expect. I ordered my wheat toast dry to minimize calories before using the blackberry jelly. The star of the dish were the breakfast potatoes. Perfect seasoning and perfect crispness. Way to go! Everything on my plate was warm or hot when it arrived so the kitchen was executing well. My server was excellent throughout my meal. The restaurant decor is plain jane but I have a new breakfast and lunch spot to rely on.

I went to Hearth Room Cafe for a bridal shower. We had three choices for food and I got the West Coast Club. It was very good! However, my sister got the Chicken Salad Pie and I tried a bite. It was soooo good. I want to come back and get that next time! The servers were very friendly as well.

I had my first visit to the Hearth Room recently with my mom and sister for brunch on a Saturday. The dining area is quite spacious with a main dining room, and two anchoring private rooms that I could see being great for small to medium size events. The focal point in the main dining room was the fireplace, which was pleasant on a rainy day. I had an egg scramble with potatoes, and a pancake with a mimosa. My mom had a yogurt parfait which looked amazing, and my sister had waffles. We all enjoyed our food and the prices were decent. Our service was also really friendly and efficient, although we did have to flag our waiter a couple of times. This restaurant is tucked inside of a upper level plaza at Lamp and Lantern in Town and Country so it's a bit hidden off of Clayton and Woodsmill, but it's definitely worth checking out when you want something different than the usual chain.

Quaint, cute little spot for a wholesome breakfast or lunch. A large selection of food to choose from. Quick, friendly service. The food won't "wow" you but will suffice.

One of the best Bloody Mary's that I've had in quite some time! The Hearth Room Hash was top notch, and enough for me to bring home some leftovers. I could've finished it, but I'd have hurt myself. The service was quick, friendly, and accurate. Definitely wouldn't say no to coming back here!

Not bad. Not great. Decent breakfast food, which is what one would expect. But nothing really special that sets it apart from other breakfast places. Not that I didn't enjoy it, just that it was okay. Pancakes were large and fairly fluffy. Belgian waffles similarly were large and light, if standard. Scrambled eggs were moist and well seasoned with salt. Bacon was crispy. So there you go.

    Mexican Omelet

My wife and I came here with two of our friends for brunch on Labor Day and we were a bit underwhelmed. The waitress was friendly but the kitchen was slow to make our food which is understandable since they may have been short on staff for the crowd on a Monday holiday. My wife and I shared the Mexican Omlette, Strawberry Shortcake French Toast, and a Fruit and Yogurt Parfait. The Mexican Omlette was good but not any better than anywhere else and the other items were decent but much of the produce they use seemed to be mostly frozen or canned rather than fresh. Our friend got the Grilled Salmon Salad and she noticed the salmon was likely frozen prior to cooking rather than cooked fresh. The prices are decent and the ambiance is nice but the quality does not quite live up with it. I was even disappointed the tea selection was a typical brand (forget which one) rather than a nicer selection I expected for this place. In the future we will probably have brunch in town elsewhere such as The Shack which is amazing or at my mother's house instead.

We kept things pretty simple and ordered scrambled eggs with link sausage, along with pancakes and French toast. The eggs unfortunately came out a bit cool and weren't especially fluffy. They had more of a scooped-from-a-tray feel rather than something freshly cooked to order. The sausage, however, was fresh and had a good flavor, which was probably the standout part of the plate. The pancakes and French toast were decent overall. The pancakes were nicely fluffy, but aside from that there wasn't anything particularly memorable about either item. Our waitress seemed extremely busy and a bit scattered, which made it feel like she may have had too many tables to manage at once. At one point we overheard her say "turn 'em and burn 'em" while referencing customers/tables, which was a little off-putting and not exactly something that inspires repeat visits. Overall, the experience was okay but not particularly memorable. Personally, it's probably not somewhere I'd rush back to, though it did seem like the older clientele there were enjoying themselves.

In fact, our waiter, Todd, was very attentive and even slowed down another server who was going to bring us our salads (a house and a caesar with anchovies) before we had a chance to finish our appetizer (a savory and spicy jambalaya arancini). Good catch on his part. We both had a glass of prosecco to start and then split a bottle of French pinot noir (Domaine de Valmoissine) to go with our entrees (steak tip pasta and steak frites). My wife loved the pasta dish (fresh pappardelle with steak tips, demiglace cream sauce and shiitake mushrooms) and my steak was perfectly prepared medium-rare with crisp and flavorful garlic fries and a side of green beans and shiitake mushrooms.
