We had dinner at Hearth 61 last night and it was a wonderful experience. We started in the bar with a cocktail and when our table was ready, we took our drinks to the restaurant. We started with the Caesar salad which was large enough for my husband and I to share. Then he ordered the pork chop and I ordered the salmon. We had a bottle of Four Graces Pinot Noir from their excellent wine list. The service was excellent and our views of Camelback can't be beat. Both dinners were excellent and we came home with leftovers. I wish I could remember the name of our server as she knew the menu very well and steered us towards those entrees. I continue to enjoy Hearth '61 for its beautiful ambience, relaxing setting, and overall food menu. It's still one of my favorite places to visit, and the service has been phenomenal as always. Servers are attentive, kind, and consistent. That said, I'm genuinely bummed about one big change: the original Banana Ricotta Pancakes. The original version with bacon, caramel sauce, and bananas was truly unbeatable and honestly one of the main reasons I kept coming back. Since then, I've tried two different updated versions on separate menus (one with strawberries and another very simple version with streusel) and while they were fine, nothing compares to the original. When I initially asked about the change, I was told it was due to dietary restrictions, but I do feel that guests could easily substitute or remove ingredients like bacon if needed rather than removing such a standout dish entirely. It's disappointing, and I really hope the original version makes a comeback because it was something special. Overall, I still love coming here for the atmosphere, service, and experience! read more

We came for my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint! It's always a bit harder for us to find nice restaurants that also can cater to our toddler and Hearth 61 was perfect! She was happy as a clam with her coloring and grilled cheese while we enjoyed some of the yummiest food I have had in a while, with gorgeous Mountain Views in the background. We had the oysters, beet salad, halibut and filet, along with cocktails and wine. Everything was spectacular, especially the birthday dessert platter for my husband! My wife and I stayed at this resort on Valentine's Day weekend for our niece's wedding, and it was amazing! I have to give Sydnee, office manager, two thumbs up and five stars for her awesome attentiveness when it came to our needs! I misplaced my necklace/cross but later found it among my luggage. However, Sydnee had the staff searching in all the areas that I had previously been, which says a lot about how much she cared about all of us who were there for the wedding party, which was a lot! Sydnee is a gemstone and definitely an asset to the Mountain Shadows organization! The bed and pillows in our room were probably the most comfortable I've ever had the pleasure of sleeping on! I want to take my hat off and express gratitude to the bartender, Cat, who literally made me one of the best Woodford Reserve drinks that I've had the pleasure of drinking in a while. She always made sure that my glass was filled and served with a lot of enthusiasm and a great smile! Now, the food was freaking amazing at Hearth Restaurant, whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner! I had the steak and eggs, which were to die for, and my wife had the avocado toast, of which she said was a 6 out of 10 in flavors! Our server, Ezmerelda, was so great while taking care of a lot of us that were in our party! You ROCK, Ezmerelda, and are a great addition to the Mountain Shadows team! She even found out what they put in the butter patties that we had for dinner at the wedding. Because it was definitely a flavor bomb, and she found out from the executive chef that it was roasted garlic and a little bit of salt. So I thank her for that and for even taking the time out to find out what it was! The dinner that they served at the wedding was unbelievable in flavor. I had the short ribs, and my wife had the salmon, of which both melted in our mouths! Now, you know things are great when you eat the salad in its entirety! LOL!! I can continue on with the most amazing experience that we have had at this resort, but there isn't enough space, all the way down to the valet service. PMSI and Nico took care of our cars when we needed it! Thanks, Nico! Hearth 61 was excellent! Can't find a single issue with the brunch experience there. The food was delicious, well plated, and service was prompt. Atmosphere was ideal located in the back of the resort with ample indoor and outdoor seating available. All the brunch options were delicious but especially the breakfast smoothie. It was tasty and not too sweet. Split that between 2 people along with 2 brunch entrees is enough for a perfect meal. Service is prompt and not overbearing. The only downside was seeing a small dog drinking from a glass at the bar, which made it a bit hard to enjoy my drink after that. The hubs and I stayed at Mountain Shadows for the weekend and dined here for dinner and brunch. The hash was really good. The pancakes were dry and didn't have much flavor. For dinner, I had the beef tenderloin and it was the most tender piece of red meat I've ever had in my life!! The accompanying blue cheese sauce was delicious! Hubs ordered the ribeye. He said the steak was good. This would've been a 5 star review but they served us frozen steak fries with his steak. Really? We paid $68 for a ribeye, the most expensive thing on the menu, and you can't make homemade fries?! Overall, this was a solid hotel restaurant. read more

WOW ... just W-O-W! Hearth '61, located at the Mountain Shadows Resort in Paradise Valley, was one of the absolute finest Arizona restaurants that I have eaten at in years! It can be difficult to find a stand-out restaurant that uses high quality and decadent locally sourced ingredients in a Metropolitan area like Phoenix, which maintains a plethora of copy-cat mediocre restaurants! Frankly, I had never heard of Hearth 61 or Mountain Shadows Resort until Restaurant Week; probably because it's one of the less well-known and smaller resort properties in the area. Therefore, it doesn't get as much hype as places like the Omni Montelucia or the Phoenician. Hearth 61 is an absolute hidden treasure! We were warmly greeted upon entry and seated promptly by the hostess. Our waitress, Annesa K, was very attentive, personable, and helpful when we asked her questions about different items on the menu; and continually checked in with us throughout dinner service. The service was impeccable and efficient without feeling rushed. I feel like the timing upon bringing each course out was perfectly executed. The ambiance is classy/sophisticated yet warm and inviting -- each staff member that we encountered was very kind and a pleasure to chat with; considering this is a fine-dining establishment. The reasonably priced elegant food was impressive and the portions were generous, given that this a fairly swanky Paradise Valley resort. The pictures don't do the exquisitely plated food presentations justice -- the dishes came out looking like works of fine-art! We ordered the Chilled Strawberry Gazpacho and Spring Salad as our starters. Both were great--the last time I had a cold soup of this caliber was on a Royal Caribbean Cruise; and the ingredients in the salad were sooo fresh, sooo clean tasting--with locally sourced citrus. We ordered the Roasted Swordfish and the Braised Beef Short Rib for our main courses--OMG both were magnificent! First, I'm very apprehensive about how fish is prepared, especially swordfish; because if it's poorly prepared it can taste extremely fishy. But this swordfish was cooked perfectly and after adding a little fresh lemon, I couldn't even tell I was eating fish. Many other places I've ordered short rib from tend to overcook it, or don't trim the beef very well, so it can be fatty. But here, the short rib was one of best I've ever eaten -- it was very lean yet savory and so tender that melted in my mouth--and with the combined flavors/juices from the paired sides ... YUM! The Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Bombe was the BOMB indeed! This dessert was the perfect icing on the cake after an impressive meal--it totally hit the spot! It was light yet silky smooth and not too sweet! It could possibly be my favorite new dessert ... Each dish was very well-balanced with flavors upon flavors complimenting one another ... The overall dining experience at Hearth '61 was brilliant. The renowned Chef Charles Wiley couldn't have done it any better or made this dinner any more special than he did. In my opinion, this chef is a culinary genius, and I feel privileged to have been able to indulge in his edible masterpieces! Bravo! It paired nicely with the scallop dish that he recommended. Thomas also helped me decide on a dessert since they had some new ones on the menu. I got the strawberry shortcake . Also light and lovely. We had dinner here for the first time last weekend. It was awesome! It was a birthday dinner and we wanted something special. We have been to many events at the resort but have never tried the restaurant. We were told it is a hidden secret. We had a conversation as we arrived that we have not had a restaurant/food experience recently where the food exceeded our expectations. The food was amazing! To get things started we had the Tempura Oyster Mushrooms as an appetizer...incredible! The Pork Shank for dinner was amazing...fall off the bone delicious! The Short Rib Agnolotti pasta was to die for...we fought over the left overs the next day! The fresh beet salad was so refreshing we couldn't stop talking about it! The staff were great! They were so attentive and sweet. They brought a delicious Chocolate Mousse birthday dessert which rounded out the meal perfectly. Needless to say, this meal exceeded our expectations! Brunch time and it hit all the check boxes for me on a Sunday morning. The spacious restaurant is located in the Mountain Shadow Resort off the lobby. The bar area is vibrant and fun and is an elegant spot for a special meal with friends & family. The decor and surroundings are a throwback to something modern... and if that doesn't make sense, you'll know when you arrive. Brunch menu has lots of great options and is not too overwhelming. I gravitated to the Apple Pie Waffle from the Chef Specials. I was craving something sweet and it hit on all the right notes. It had an apple compote & butter crumble that popped off the texture along with some caramelized cinnamon... Honestly, it didn't really need any syrup. To balance it off, I added 2 eggs w/cheese along with their pork sausage link, a side of fruit (the way a side of fruit should be), and sourdough toast. We shared the hiramasa crudo as a starter, I had the pan seared salmon for the main course, and for dessert we shared the piña colada panna cotta. We stayed at the resort for a wedding and as far as the resort overall goes it's beautiful! For the food at the restaurant it was good though I felt some of the dishes were missing something. If I were to recommend anything I would say the smoked salmon plate and the garden omelet. Their salmon was surprisingly super good! I also had the avocado toast and was a little disappointed, there was a lot of flavor but my toast was cold so it seemed like i5 had been sitting there for awhile. I'm a local and was ecstatic to find another dog friendly hotel and restaurant to do a staycation. I'll start with the "wins", they are dog lovers and it's a beautiful spot. Rhonda and Mandy were super kind and helpful when the rest of their team and service were falling down based on going there a few times over the course of the days we stayed at Mountain Shadows. Service collectively - 2/10. All 3 occasions I'm basing this on is sitting at the bar between me and two other friends. I showed up solo with my dog on a Friday around 3pm while waiting on the other two to finish up work. There were approximately 8-10 patrons including myself with 3 bartenders. I was immediately greeted by Anna and she immediately gave myself and my dog some water. I waited about 15 minutes while watching other patrons get served a drink that sat after I did so I waved down a bartender to grab my order. Not sure how I was overlooked or even not acknowledged but life happens. No bigs. But from here I was continuously overlooked and the waitress and bar back were the ones that stepped in to serve me after flagging them down each time after not receiving any service from the bartenders. I did speak with the manager (I'm sorry I forget his name!) but he was fantastic. The following morning we all grabbed lunch to watch college football and service was the same. 3 people standing there (although I think one was a bar back) chatting and not acknowledging us until we had to wave them down. For longer than you would assume when sitting smack dab in front of people's faces. The one girl became super helpful towards the end, so maybe we had invisible cloaks on before then? Food 7/10 - the spaghetti squash was uneventful. Added salt and hot sauce and it helped. Wouldn't order again. But the grilled cheese and burger were delicious. read more

One day I wasn't that hungry and ordered the grilled cheese thinking that would be something simple just to snack on...I was wrong! It was the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had! Have to break up this review as the Food was definitely delicious (4-5 stars), we had a flatbread, meatballs that sat on top of this delicious chickpea purée, salmon, carrots and chocolate mousse, everything but the mousse was DELICIOUS. I loved the different things that went on the plate for each dish, very well done and only thing that saved this from being a 2 star review. Actually- the ambiance and view was also gorgeous- we sat on the patio (which is dog friendly) and aside from the chairs feeling a little low (lol) it was a perfect setting for a beautiful meal. Now, we talk about the service. Unfortunately it was probably a 2 star MAX. It was SOOO slow and almost oddly inconsistent- example the table that sat after us, would her food prior to us- even though they were a table of 4 and we a table of 2. Now I'll admit I showed up more hungry edging on the HANGRY side, BUT was ecstatic to see they offered bread service. We ordered or drinks and immediately put in our food order, the service took our order and mentioned he'd get us some bread to start (I was thankful for this). Now- we waited, our drinks came, I watched the little bread girl walk around with the bread basket to 3 tables surrounding us handling each of the guests a piece of bread (including the table next to us that was sat after) and then she started to leave. I was actually starving and looking forward to the bread so as she walked passed I asked her politely if she can please bring us some as well- remember the server that took our drink order (and delivered the drinks already) had also promised us bread and not delivered. The girl looked at me said "Ofcourse" then proceeded to do something else. YES, I actually watched her put the basket down and bring water to a new table, and have a convo with them. Long story short- our slice of bread arrived at our table 28 minutes after we sat, 2 minutes PRIOR to our actual meal coming out. I was not impressed and actually asked the girl "is this baked in house?" Because I cannot understand why 2 slices of bread takes 28 minutes especially when it was promised to us upon seating. She responded with "No it's brought in." Which confirmed there was no reason to take so long. At this point as our meal was on the table, we had no need to fill up on bread- as mentioned food was delicious but, same issue with our water carafe- it sat empty as the server took it away and said "I'll bring you more water" He did not- and we had to ask someone else for some. After our meal, he brought the dessert menu and we sat for atleast 8 minutes before he came back to check on us- at this point I was so tired, so confused as to how a beautiful resort can have such horrible service- and just wanted this to end. Again- would I come back? Probably- but I would recommend sitting at the bar unless you have so much time to kill waiting for the slow slow service. I also need to note that FOOD (aside from the bread) actually came out super quick! So the issue was definitely the server and the bread girl. Also shout out to the other 2 male food runners who brought our food out- they seemed to be running their heads off and still super kind when delivering our plates. It's too bad the runners can't be the servers, this seems to be a trend that the runners are all way more efficient then the actual servers these days. read more

We had a group of 16 for brunch at 9:30 am on Sunday, 12/18/22. We were seated right away. Our waitress, along with everyone else who took care of us, were wonderful! Here's what I tried: - Breakfast Hash ($18): I subbed turkey sausage for the chorizo. It was tasty! - Banana Ricotta Pancakes ($17): Pretty good. Was surprised that the ricotta was in between the pancakes and not mixed in with the batter. The bacon was very unnecessary and took away from the pancakes. Good, but ask for no bacon. - The Green Machine ($12): Awful. Supposedly had pineapple, but couldn't taste it at all. Just tasted like spinach. Don't get this!! - Breakfast Shake ($12): So much better than the Green Machine. Definitely not worth $12 though. Others in my party got Spaghetti Squash ($18), Two Eggs Any Style ($16), Roasted Chicken Breast Sandwich ($19), and Steel Cut Oatmeal ($12). Everyone enjoyed theirs! The prices, especially for the pancakes and the shakes, are steep, but I guess it's on par for a resort. Service was great! Came here during restaurant week with a friend and had a nice little dinner. Checked in at the front and got quickly seated. We faced the mountain which was nice but it was kind of dark outside (arrived at 7pm) so couldn't see the view as clearly as you would during the day. So I suggest coming a bit earlier at 5 or 6pm for dinner if you can. We had a 3 course meal and got the squash soup & octopus, short ribs & crab cakes, and chocolate pumpkin apple pie cake dessert. I was impressed with the squash soup, super delicious and creamy. The octopus was grilled and paired with beans and bean sprouts. The short ribs with pasta underneath was a bit dry and underwhelming. The crab cakes came with sweet potato, onions and peppers and was pretty good. The dessert had a mixtures of apple pie, pumpkin pie and rich chocolate flavor to it. Customer service was 5/5. During our stay at the hotel, we decided to get dinner with no reservations. The host was able to fit us in on a holiday weekend. For starters, my husband and I shared the Hiramasa crudo which had raw yellowtail with cucumbers, red peppers, pickled mango with fried rice chips. Light, delicate and fun. For my entree, I ordered the chef specialty of the night: medium well NY strip steak topped with chimichurri sauce on a bed of creamed cauliflower, Brussel sprouts and onion. The steak was not over cooked. Seasoned well and tender with every bite. I was able to take a few bites off of my husband's plate-he got the pan seared salmon. That was also a winner! At this point we were so full but we had to get dessert since we're on a mini vacation. Our server suggested the pina colada penna cotta-served with caramelized pineapple fruit, pineapple infused cream/gelatin mold with a nice pastry crust at the bottom. Popped into Hearth for a Saturday night dinner. Mountain Shadows is a slick more personable resort with significant local history. It's frequented by out of town guests and also popular with locals. Hearth is intimate, offers a vegetarian friendly menu. The cocktails are delicious, I had a Russian Spritz and it was refreshing and light and fruity without being too sweet. I ordered the Quinoa Lentil Curry Stew and it was amazing! Being vegetarian I fully expected the sushi to be sufficient, wow I was blown away by the flavor: lentil, creamy asparagus, quinoa, a hint of coconut milk and just a whisper of curry seasoning. This dish doesn't disappoint and I highly recommend it along with the fingerling potatoes which were excellent. Do check out Hearth, the dining room is comfortable in blue tones and there is outdoor patio seating with heaters should you want to sit out by the stunning pool or fireplace. I came here with 3 other people Sunday at 5:30pm (before Memorial Day) and it was pretty empty. We just did drinks and apps and I was very underwhelmed. I got the Saphire rose and it was just ok. Hearth '61 at Mountain Shadows has been on my bucket list for a long time. I'm a massive fan of Zuzu at the sister property, Hotel Valley Ho. For some reason, Mountain Shadows just seemed like it was far away to get to. It's probably more convenient than visiting Hotel Valley Ho. And in terms of ambiance, this is much more majestic than the overhyped Jade Bar at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain (a mistake you only make once). The property itself is breathtaking and accessible. It's a huge wedding venue for obvious reasons. I love all the historic photos lining the walls showing past visitors (Lucille Ball!) and giving you a sense of its history. I spoke with my server and it seems that this isn't the original location, but its spirit lives on. Booking a dinner reservation was a breeze. Things got off on the right foot with our Sedona sparkling water and got even better when we were greeted by our server for the evening, Annesa. She guided us on our experience and made solid recommendations. The property is lucky to have a staff member like her. The Noble bread was excellent as was the accompanying pesto sauce. They could sell that pesto by the bottle! We ordered the Italian sausage and mushroom flatbread for a starter. Honestly? It was a bit of a disappointment. Too doughy. Not enough flavor. I'm being extra critical because I just had an exceptional flatbread pizza at Seasons 52, so that may be why I'm harsher. The pork chop was excellent and full of flavor. It leaned a little toward the dry side but was overall excellent. Swap out the suggested side for mashed potatoes. You won't be disappointed! The beef tenderloin was the bomb. Seriously, such a smooth steak. I almost didn't need a knife to cut it. And when it is accompanied by those mashed potatoes, you have a winner. One of the best steaks that I've had in a long time! You won't be surprised that there is an extensive wine list. I was overjoyed that one of my favorites, Piattelli Malbec was available. The dining room is quiet and at night romantically lit. It doesn't pick up until closer to 7:00-7:30 which adds a little buzz. Perfect if you are looking for a quiet, more intimate experience. There is a typical bar area right outside the restaurant for a nightcap as well. All in all, I'm thrilled that I finally got to experience Hearth '61 at last! read more

I had contacted several 'fancy' restaurants for a few questions and inquiring about some accommodations. Hearth 61 manager was by far the friendliest and promptest to reply. Due to this we ended up choosing this place, and then visited multiple times in the following weeks... Definitely one of the best dinners we have ever had! We went here for Valentine's Day, and our experience couldn't have been better. The service was, of course, flawless. The interior decorations and overall ambience was perfect. When you first walk into the restaurant you pass by the kitchen to your left, which you can see into as it has an open wall. I always love being able to see into restaurant kitchens because I think it makes the meal even more special. The food itself was delicious and I would not have changed a thing. By far the best dinner we have had out since COVID! Everything was perfect. Tables were appropriately spaced for social distancing. Staff was friendly. They all wore masks and gloves. Only paper menus were provided. They are serving a limited menu, but they kept most of their best dishes.
