I recently took my lap top into Heart & Soul on Plank Road in Fredericksburg VA to get the screen replaced. My lap top was in fine working condition, with the exception of the screen. I had to connect the lap top an external monitor in order to use the lap top. I was quoted $105 for the screen and $100 for labor, seemed like a fair deal so I gave the go ahead. When I went back to Heart & Soul to pick up my lap top the screen was working fine, but my mouse would not work. James Ruth, the owner of Heart and Soul called a young technician to task in my presence for not correctly reattaching my mouse. The young technician promised me the lap top within 30 minutes. I told him not to worry, I was headed home and would either pick it up later that evening or the next morning.
Within 30 minutes I received a phone call from the young technician informing me that my mouse was inoperable and that for a $25 additional fee they would run a scan on my computer to attempt to find out why the mouse wasn't working. Not being completely computer literate, I asked him to explain to me what had happened because the mouse was not the issue whenthe computer was brought to Heart & Soul and why would it not be working. The young technician grew frustrated with me and James Ruth got on the phone and told me they would run the scan for free, it was a feature of Windows 8 anyway and they would let me know of any issues. Later that night my computer troubles got worse. I was called and told that my computer had a virus and that virus was causing my mouse to not work and the lap top now would only operate in safe mode. What! The young technician offered to run a virus scan for $125 to remove the virus from my computer, save my hard drive and fix my mouse. I refused this service and again James Ruth got on the phone and offered to run a "hardware scan" to determine what was wrong. He wouldn't charge me for this scan, he said this scan would determine if there was something wrong with the hard drive. The next morning my lap top was declared inoperable by James Ruth. The hard drive was damaged, it wasn't his fault, he was very busy, did not have time to further discuss this issue with me and in fact was ready to hang up on me. I asked once again how this could have happened, I took a lap top that only needed a screen replacement and now the hard drive was damaged. Silence on the other end... he had hung up on me.
The next working day, Monday, I took my husband with me to Heart & Soul to see if he could get an answer from James Ruth. My husband isn't a computer expert, like the people at Heart & Soul, he just knows quite a bit more about computers than I do. James' first words out of his mouth to my husband were "we don't want her business". I guess if you bring a working lap top to them, and when they finish repairing it the lap top doesn't work, they don't want your business. James told us that we must have dropped the lap top and damaged the hard drive, it wasn't his fault and he refused to discuss the issue.
My husband brought the lap top back to our office. He removed the hard drive from the lap top and connected it to his lap top. The hard drive worked fine. He re-installed the hard drive and attempted to boot up the lap top, an error code was displayed. He typed the error code into Google - the answer to the problem was right there with a quick Google search - the BIOS were incorrect. A little more research on Google and within 30 minutes the lap top was up and running.
The mouse still wasn't working. My husband, computer genius that he is, knew that one of the function keys controlled the mouse. He depressed it and voilà the mouse works.
I would not have taken the time to type out this essay on the service and competency of Heart & Soul if they were not such arrogant, obnoxious, condescending, rude people. They are also incompetent, they don't know what they are doing, they are not experts in computer repair and they don't stand by their work. I would not recommend Heart and Soul Computer Repair located at 5209 Plank Road in Fredericksburg Virginia, owned by James Ruth to repair an Etch O Sketch. Consider yourself warned, tell others, I know I will. read more
