The worse massage experience and the biggest damper to my mother's day. I booked a 2 hour massage…read morethat ended up being less than an hour. The place smelled like mildew and I should have left then. The massage tech showed me to a room where she closed the door behind me. There was no instruction, no robe, only a towel to cover myself and no intake to learn of any physical concerns I may have. The room and table were cold. The massage tech did warm the table and bring me a cover once I advised her. She was pleasant but seemed to lack massage skill as she began my massage with no lotion/oil and only seemed to press on my back. She eventually grabbed oil and tucked a towel into my undergarments as she giggled. She never inquired if I wanted my glutes massaged. She massaged my back for about 10 minutes before her phone rang and she began texting with one hand. She repeatedly left the room during my massage and/or was texting. The "spa" was loud with door chimes, what appeared to be an angry customer and the tech's utilizing their phones on speaker and google translate. The tech did not speak English and placed her phone in my face with a google translator inquiring if the confirmation phone number she was showing me for some husband trying to surprise his wife Jessica was me. After I told her no and had to quote my number into her translator, she left the room again. She left my massage at least 4 times. She returned a final time (I planned to leave if she left again) with an English speaking person on the phone asking me if I would reduce my massage to 1 hour because they had problems. I said yes because I was ready to go. The tech was so happy she hugged me while I was still laying flat on the table. I thought this must be a joke! She then rubbed my back clear of the oil and rubbed the back of each leg for about 20 seconds, patted my back and then said my hour was done! She did not make up for all the times she was out of the room or texting, nor did she ever massage my arms, hands, feet, have my turn over or anything! I was going to complain but figured it was a waste of time since they could not understand me anyway and knew a review would be more productive. I went to the front to pay only to learn they only accept cash and pointed me to an ATM machine they had in the corner. I took the mini bottle of water they gave me and promised I would never be back. Do not go to the spa. It's awful! I gave them 1 star because you have to in order to submit and because she rubbed my back for about 15 minutes total. I should not have paid them anything! Not relaxing or fulfilling and customer service was poor.

I can always tell when I'm inching close to the one-month marker since my last massage and I always feel wonderful when the massage is done. She is patient with stubborn students and has a great sense of humor about the challenges of learning how to play an instrument. I started learning how to play the piano (my first instrument ever) at 47 years old. Donna has made the weekly lesson enjoyable and one of the best parts of my week. Donna and her co-workers provide many services, not just massage, and you can be assured that whatever service she provides to you will be the best quality imaginable.

I had my boyfriend try to massage it, I took ibuprofen, but nothing helped. I am new to town so I browsed Yelp saw earthwalk listed and called. I was able to get an appointment within a few hours. Donna gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. She was attentive, took her time to listen and see exactly what was bothering me and then focused only where I wanted her to massage for the entire hour. I was 80% better at the end of the massage and 100% better the next day. In addition to the excellent massage I found the whole experience very calming. The Center was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and had a very homey feeling. This was a very refreshing experience as the only other place I had gone for a massage in town was at an overpriced, uptight day spa where I felt rushed and had a terrible massage.. I give earthwalk my highest recommendation. If you are looking for a place to get a massage with an experienced practitioner who will listen to your concerns come in and ask for Donna!

TL;DR: Don't buy a gift certificate/card from this place…read more Zen and the City really appears to be set up for members and isn't equipped to interact with outsider customers. Unsurprisingly, most of the negative reviews are from people trying to deal with their gift certificates or gift cards since they are not able to provide reasonable service to people unfamiliar with their procedures. Throughout the process, I had to chase the owner, Gary, repeatedly over text and phone in order to get any information. A list of things I wish I knew before attempting to use a gift certificate here: I was alone in the building, not just the room, with an unknown man. Zen and the City is a therapist-owned establishment that has appointment-only booking for services. In light of this description, I probably should have known that I would be alone with my massage therapist. Except the website contains none of that information, which I only learned about after the appointment, so I was blindsided. My massage therapist was a very nice man who did his best to make me feel welcome and taken care of (Thank you, Anthony. You were the only good part of this whole experience!), but it was hard to set aside how uncomfortable it was to be alone with a strange man without knowing before that no one else would be there. The gift certificates (physical) and gift cards (e-cards) are redeemed in different ways. The website doesn't make it clear (either in the description or during the purchase) that physical gift certificates are only redeemable for a specific service, and that the gift certificates and gift cards are considered two different products. When I got the certificate for Zen and the City, neither my father (who bought this as a gift) nor I knew there was a difference between the two until after I had my appointment and was told otherwise. If you redeem the service-specific gift certificate for the wrong service by mistake, Zen and the City will not inform you of the mistake when you book your appointment and will instead pocket the remaining money without further services or refund, even after their error is pointed out to them. I suspect they would have prevented me from redeeming the gift certificate for something that was MORE money than the one I used, but when I accidentally used it from something that cost LESS, I was only told afterwards when I couldn't fix my mistake, or receive a refund for the balance. The initial confirmation text message is meaningless. It doesn't accurately reflect that an appointment's successfully been made (because you get a text regardless), and it does not result in you being correctly signed up to receive text messages. Instead, they will contact you by email, no matter your indicated preference (which they don't know anyway because they never ask for your preference). If there is a problem with your email address, they will not use your phone number to follow up. There will be no further attempt to contact you. I'll be honest and admit that I made quite a few mistakes in attempting to deal with Zen and the City, and I accept the responsibility of those mistakes. However, I think it's important for future potential customers to know beforehand that this is the kind of business that is happy to take advantage of your confusion, your mistakes, or your unexpected illness (check out their sick policy). It's up to you whether you want to risk giving this place your money and time.
