OMG was so dreading going to another wig shop with my partner. But this place was different. Antonia and the owner were so much fun and so great and helpful. Let me just say the sheer amount of stuff to look at was amazing. We had a great time shopping with these two lovely ladies we laugh together and leveraged their experience to get the best items. If you are looking for a wig of any color and I do mean any color or style this is where you want to go. This is the type of place where you can find that one of a kind unique color or mix of colors to suit your personal style. Make sure you check out the jewelry counter as they not only have pierced earrings they also have clips, as well as tons of necklaces, bracelets etc. BTW we found street parking and that was a major bonus and at no time did we feel rushed or like we were bothering them asking if the wig came in a different color, they even recommended a couple we left with. It was so funny, because when I said I needed a pink wig, the girl was like, "Gaga concert?" She said she was pretty busy all week with similar requests. It's a candy shop for people who enjoy wigs. Tons of gaudy cheap jewelry....eyelashes...makeup. LOVE! They let you try on three wigs when you buy a 50 cent wig cap and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I've gotten 3 wigs here. They have a decent selection but they dont carry outre at all, which is weird. I love the wigs sooo much but i hate their policy. They require you to buy a wig cap and have a 3-5 wig try on max which makes no sense esp if you know i'm spending $50+ in one trip. Also the wigs are overpriced at least $10 more than they are online on wig websites and even amazon. Highly recommend, if nothing else, so you can get a taste of what style of wigs you like and maybe even buy your first few wigs here. read more

The best wigs I've ever seen. HUGE selection, and so reasonably priced! I got mine for $20, my friend got hers for $15 on sale, and strangers thought my (bright purple) wig was my real hair, because it fit so perfectly! I actually picked out the wig first, then changed my whole costume to fit it because this wig was so darn fun! Two Halloween costumes and counting, I've found myself on Milwaukee trying to find the perfect wig for my outfit. Success on both counts. They range from cheaper to not-so-cheaper, but I found a nice one for about $21. I was eyeballing a bouffant'ed model when the little Asian woman who was working the floor like a pro pulled me aside and showed me how they made it happen - a little wadded plastic bag under the wig and presto! My mother has always had beautiful, thick black hair. She recently had her hair over-processed at a very well known hair salon down the street. They burnt her hair and scalp by perming it, then dyeing it. Her hair broke to the touch, and she now has several large bald or thinning spots through out her head and she looks and feels terrible. So this is my favorite place to buy wigs. They have a huge section of lace front wigs and other types as well. All the times I have been there , everyone has been really helpful and nice. There was once, last time I went , were me and my friend stopped by to buy some eyelashes and it had been a while since I had been there. The person working besides the owner wasn't really open friendly. Anyway , we also decided to look at wigs for cosplay and we felt rushed. We were basically kicked out ! The lady said if there was anything else they could help us out with and if we didn't need anything else to basically leave because they were "closing the store" to get lunch. This place has been a wonderland to me since 1998. It's like a cornucopia of fake hair. All reasonably priced too! You can get almost any hair here. The sales associates are definitely helpful but you do have to ask for their help, they don't smother you to death. The owner people who ring you up are also pretty nice because they always give me a discount or throw in some free goodies when I go crazy overboard buying falls, trains and lots of fake eye lashes. Okay, so I'll admit, I don't have the most experience buying wigs. I only own two, but I've shopped around for them and on both occasions I ended up buying here. My first wig experience was for a wig party. I went all up and down Milwaukee and found a lot of low quality wigs for more than I wanted to spend on one party (30-40 bucks). The wig I ended up buying was a bright blue bob for about $20. It's obviously not fooling anyone into thinking it's my real hair, but its cute, it's still in good condition a year later and it was cheap. The woman who helped me at the store was really patient with my indecision and had suggestions and smiles while I asked her to see quite a few options. The second wig I needed was for my Marilyn Monroe costume. I tried to find a cheap version at a costume store, and that's exactly what they all were, cheap and trashy looking so I headed right on back to Heads and Threads. I found the perfect wig immediately and it was hot. I have definitely found the place to fulfill all of my wig needs, I just wish I needed more wigs! read more

I went wig shopping with a friend for a costume party and she suggested Heads & Threads to complete our look. When we walked in we knew that we had hit the wig mecca of Chicago. There were tons of styles and kinds of wigs ranging from super classy lady to ten dollar whore. The other cool thing about H & T is that they have other stuff to play dress up in, such as cheap jewelry and tights. You have to bug the salesladies there to try on a wig. Buying a crazy colored wig every year for the Gay Pride Parade has become a "thing" with one of my friends. This year, we were given a whole bunch of choices - as opposed to the single one we had last year (at a different store). Selection: Huge. No matter what you're looking for, you'll find it. Crazy styles? Got it. Odd colors? Name it - it's there. They've got normal ones, too. Staff: really nice! They don't give their opinions unless you ask for it (I appreciate that) and they aren't the least bit pushy. Price: beyond reasonable. My previous wig cost me about $40. This one cost me $20. Besides wigs, they also have a bunch of random accessories. Like metallic rainbow eyelashes for $2. Those ended up in my bag, too. I got my hair extensions here for my wedding. I looked at them in the package and thought 'no way' is that my matching color. But 2 of the sales associates assured me it was the right color. I tested them out this weekend and everyone was impressed. They thought it was my real hair. They did a great job of matching the color almost right away. They know what they're doing! What do you do when you need some random fun in life? Grab your best girl friends and somehow end up on Milwaukee and go wig shopping! In order to try on wigs, you need to purchase a wig cap from them (for hygiene). With each wig cap you purchase, you are allowed to try on three wigs. Seriously girls, if you're ever questioning getting a new hair style, come here and experiment beforehand. The staff is quiet but will do whatever you ask. I was surprised at how cheap the wigs were (referring to the fun playful styles). I got a cleopatra-ish wig with black/blue streaks for $20! Definitely random but it made for some great laughter. And should you ever want to dress like a skank and prance around in next to nothing, you're in luck, they have a full wall of options! read more

After quite a bit of looking, and a lot of the ladies and gentleman there helping out, she ended up finding a wig and some clip-on bangs to get the right look for not very much. Who KNEW trying on wigs was this fun? And addicting? Heads and threads is a wonderland of colorful hair pieces - curly, straight, long, short, I felt like a kid in a candy store. It was amazing. As I'm a wig buyin virgin, I wasn't sure how it all worked. Luckily, the salesperson working there tonight offered some assistance - picking out a Joan Holloway-esque red mass of luscious locks, she helped get my cap on and fit the wig so it looked as natural as possible. Thirty bucks later, I've completed my rockin' holloween costume, and I even have an alter ego anytime I want to try it out. I found a kick ass wig for my Little Red Riding Hood costume for Halloween 2012. I love this shop, organized, helpful staff, at reasonable prices. I was able to find parking right in front. When I told the sales woman my halloween plans she led me to the proper area and offered great suggestions. Yes you have to purchase a wig cap to try on wigs (at a nominal fee) but if you end up purchasing a wig your cap is free. Six different stores-two of them visited twice. This is a new favorite spot of mine for human hair extensions! The owners/people in charge are both very polite (I got a goodbye and a hello), accommodating and the woman rocked my world with my first purchase there. When I started off all I knew about the kind of human hair that I wanted was that online, it was called "kinky straight or curly". I was shown a smoother wavier kind. On my way out I looked over and saw a window size poster for "Bohyme Professional Platinum" so I went back in to look at what they had it and was pleasantly surprised. Once I decided to go with this brand I came back six hours later b/c their 10in was only $109. Saving money on human hair (that you didn't have to wait weeks for to come in the mail) feels amazing. I left there grinning and giddy-I might have skipped out. I wasn't prepared to spend $130 on one pack of hair and lo and behold I didn't have to! Yay discount! I ended up getting the 14 inch Brazilian wave after the lady had brought over a few different sizes. She was the best. She knows her stuff. We shared a laugh, she gave me a sweet discount and I can't wait to sew it in. It's also well organized and they have a variety of superior brands. I had to get the weaving net someplace else though b/c they only had the cap w/ the elastic band. Great place for hair and good sales people. read more

Oh my gosh! Is that your REAL hair? Err... no. But my Halloween 'do looked pretty rockin' thanks to the fabulous wig I bought at Heads & Threads. My friend, who is something of a wig connoisseur, brought us to Heads & Threads to hunt for fake tresses to amp up our Halloween costumes. When you dress up like a Disney Princess, you have to have the gorgeous, flowing, sexy hair that goes along with it, right? Since I was unfortunately not blessed with long, thick locks, I turned to a wig to make my costume perfect. Sure the store is on a dicey block of Milwaukee, its incredibly hot inside and there are tons of people swarming around. Once the wave of claustrophobia passed, I was pleasantly surprised at the vast wig selection. There seemed to be something in every color, length and style. And the best part? Super affordable! My long, luscious wig only set me back about $30. Just a few things to keep in mind: 1. You MUST by a wig cap that costs 50 cents to try on the wigs. Let's all do our part to keep lice and other head ickies to a minimum, right? 2. You can only try on 3 wigs per visit. I'm sure this is to prevent young girls from coming in and trying on 50 wigs and leaving the place in shambles. I also think that if you are a serious customer and need to try on a few more than three wigs, you'll probably be okay. 3. Heads & Threads carries some dirt cheap accessories. I'm talking $1 fake eyelashes and inexpensive jewelry as far as the eye can see. Very costumey, but fabulous. read more

I have purchased human hair extensions from Heads & Threads on several occasions beginning in 2005 for my sister's wedding. Every time I'm there, however, I'm in awe of the extensive selection of hair, wigs and accessories and am always impressed with the excellent customer service. The ladies there go out of their way and truly CARE about matching the extensions to your hair color. They are, in fact, choosier than I am in getting just the right shade. I'm overdue for a happy review for the place, but recently, the level of service was taken to an all time 6 star service. In the past, I had always purchased hair and brought it to my hairdresser to cut and create extensions. My original hair dresser did a nice job and turned my own lifeless limp locks into Victoria Secret worthy hair. I have since changed hair dressers more than once and most recently, for my own wedding, the stylist who worked with my extensions did a less than lack luster job. She was sloppy with the placement of the clips and charged me over $50! Anticipating a reunion last week, I brought my extensions back to Heads & Threads really to buy more clips and to receive advice on who to bring my hair to for a fixer-upper. I had the pleasure of meeting Antonia who not only agreed that the extensions were not well done, but then suggested that she repair them: add clips, sew double strands of hair for more realistic feel, trim the ends of the extensions as well as wash and straighten the extensions back to their original perfection. I could have kicked myself....why had I not ALWAYS asked the shop to do my extensions? Not only did she have them done to PERFECTION only 2 days later, she only charged me $35. Honestly, I wanted to shout from the rooftops the love and affection I had for this lady!!!!! I took them to my current hairdresser Friday evening to create hair magic and they looked absolutely fantastic. Bottom line: if you spend the money for top of the line human hair, then don't trust your hair to just anyone. Ask the wonderful staff - I recommend Antonia, to do the work for you and you will be thrilled with the results. I am. I am a loyal customer forever. Last weekend we decided we needed something a little special for a night out and on our way to Heads and Threads we stopped at another wig store. Now, they had some pretty good stuff and it was reasonably priced but the attitude of the staff there was awful! They basically followed us around like we were gonna steal something and there were all these offensive signs everywhere "DO NOT TOUCH THE WIGS" - whatever!
