I was so happy to find this hair store in the suburbs. They have a huge selection of hair for braids, sew ins, and crochets. They also sell home goods, beauty supplies and random Knick knacks. The owners were very charming. One checked in back for me to make sure they didn't have more of the hair I was wanting in the back. Prices were in line with other hair stores. It's not the biggest selection but perfect for an option if you need something. Parking is by the meter so just call in and pay. read more

When I walked into the store with my friend, they had all their eyes at me and I (black woman) was just accompanying her and my friend went up to pay and they continued to look at me and look at the camera at me and then when I was leaving the store and then later when I got home, the gel that are selling at the store is expired or simply just not the product at all. Pretty decent beauty store where you can purchase clip in hair extensions, bundle hair, wigs, false eyelashes, eyelash glue, makeup brushes, makeup, Argan oil, castor oil, face masques, pantyhose, clothes, hats, shoes, and household goods like a circular plastic container to soak/shampoo/dye your wig /extensions in ($2). Instead of going to Beauty House on Wilson (which I believe has CRAP service), you can come here in the Edgewater /East ROGERS Park neighborhood. The Korean couple are nice and the woman is a good listener and tries to help you and means well. I got human hair clip ins for $59.99. You should walk in and just saw what they have and get a match for your hair. It's hard to determine what will be good for you unless you physically look at the product. A product I really like here is the Korean BB cream. Ask the staff for ig. It's only $6.99 and has excellent coverage. Koreans are known for their BB creams and this one is a pretty bomb formula for the price. Especially if your skin has yellow or dark undertones, you will love the BB cream here. If you have a light /fair complexion, their light formula will not be right for you. I'm serious- the Korean BB cream is an AMAZING formula here!!!! Nice coverage and feel. The other product you MUST get here to treat your hair and scalp is the Wild Growth hair pop. It's in a white and green bottle with a red top. Ask the staff for it. It's a bestseller because it's all natural and helps to grow out your hair. It's got walnut, castor, jojoba, lavender, peppermint, grapefruit, frankincense, eucalyptus, and sage in it too. Other oils too. I posted some pictures. Kinda feels tingly and more viscous than just castor oil. Castor oil feels too thick and doesn't rinse out upon shampooing. This brand is much better. It's $7.99 and is a better product than the more expensive chemical Nioxin or Avanti. They sell cute leg warmers too for under $5. While I'm a firm believer in supporting local businesses in my neighborhood, I will NOT return to this store!! Around Noon yesterday I stopped in to make some purchases. Total cost would have been around $40. Upon entering the store, with my mask on, there was NOT ONE SINGLE CUSTOMER IN THE STORE!! I heard the female owner greet me. I NEVER seen her. The male owner standing behind the counter, never said a word. He was too focused on playing his game on his phone. The volume was loud enough for me to hear the game. I'm disabled with limited walking mobility. I walk with a cane, and walk like a 90 year old, and walk like a recovering stroke patient. After walking half way through their store, and neither of them interested in offering assistance. While the store isn't huge, because of my walking mobility, it took me a good ten minutes to walk half way through the store in an attempt to find my items. Since the owners were "much to busy" doing absolutely NOTHING, I decided I would take my business elsewhere!! This was my first and last time to patronage this store. It would have been awesome if one of them could have taken the time to assist me in locating my needed items. Apparently they don't know what customer service is or the value of a customer, especially one that lives in the neighborhood, a few doors down. For any business, customer service should be even more important, especially right after the pandemic!! read more

If I am looking for something,no matter what It is-they can find it for me or a version of it. They sell almost anything....anything. If you are in the neighborhood,you owe it to yourself to visit. I've been here maybe 10 times in the last couple years. I wouldn't say I'm a regular but I've spent a decent amount of time and money here, finding kooky stuff for Halloween and for fun. For the most part I enjoyed looking through the assortment of goodies mixed in with crap. Every time the same man behind the counter watched me the whole time as if he expected me to start stuffing 99 cent earrings and headbands into my purse, but whatever. In my experience the woman was somewhat friendlier in that she spoke to me in addition to staring and hovering. Recently I went in looking for temporary hair dye to use with my pre-teen niece. They had possibilities but as both of us have darker hair I wasn't sure what would work. There was an array of products on a shelf that was level with my feet so I squatted to check it out. I ended up sitting, a huge no-no. At one point I reached into my purse for an altoid and the female sales clerk rushed over to make her presence known, as if I hadn't felt two sets of eyes on me the entire time. I asked if they were closing soon and she said no. She said she wanted to help and told me my hair color. She continued to hover as I looked through product reviews on my phone. I was taking a while as I'd never used this type of dye and thought I should research it. I didn't want to turn my bathroom walls and my niece's clothes hot pink, or massage chemicals into her 11-year-old scalp. The store wasn't closing for a couple of hours so I thought it would be okay to make sure I bought a product that worked. However, for a store packed with neon lingerie, sunglasses, giant 80's earrings, every type of makeup, handbags, wigs, shoes, bottles of lotion, sunglasses, hair dye and cleaning products, bottles stacked and toppling over, they seem to follow luxury apparel etiquette. Research should be done before entering the premises as there is an unspoken time limit for customers like me, who have the nerve to sit in order to look through products six inches off the floor. She suggested I go to a salon, because $5 hair dye in ridiculous colors that washes out in a day or two is salon-level stuff. Finally she said "why don't you come back in an hour" because "you're in our way." If she said they needed to restock, could I not linger in that aisle, I would've moved ASAP. If the man asked to keep my purse behind the counter I would've complied. It's too bad as I had one product in hand to buy and they have some fun stuff. Well, too bad for them. I'll stick to stores that don't make me feel like a huge hassle in addition to a criminal, especially when I'm about to pay actual money for a can or two of creepy chemical junk. read more

I felt super uncomfortable as soon as I walked in because the man behind the elevated counter just stared hard at me instead of greeting me. But he did say hello to my white partner behind me. We walked past the counter to the back and I turned around and he was still staring hard, with a slight scowl on his face the whole time. I really got racist vibes like he thought he needed to watch me or I'd steal, so I left after less than 2 minutes. First review in month...bad Yelper, bad! :) Love it here! It's a cute little beauty supply store that I have only came to know a few weeks ago when I was running. A cute couple owns it and are friendly. I found my African American products that I know and love in the store. They also sell hair extensions, hats, and other items one would find in a urban beauty supply. Prices were about the same, if a little bit lower that what I usualy pay if I was on the south Side of Chicago for the same items.I love that I now do not need to go all the way to Lakeview for Sally's when UN Joy is right in my backyard! read more

This is our go-to place in the city for Gonesh brand incense even though we don't live nearby anymore. They generally are well stocked with it and as of 2/11 it's $1.29 per package of 20 long sticks. My favorite scent is strawberry, my second is vanilla which is pretty mild. Some scents my husband likes I definitely do not, but those two we can definitely both enjoy. You can read about Gonesh incense on wikipedia, actually. It's very fragrant and I wish more places carried it. (If you find another place, I'd love to know). It's made in the US and is made from charcoal soaked in perfumed oil. Inside the cardboard there is a plastic sleeve, to keep the fragrant oils from evaporating. Open the plastic carefully so you can close it again and keep the fragrance at full strength. The store is stocked with so much stuff including wigs, but we have only ever needed the incense. I am very grateful they carry it. If you walk straight in, the incense is maybe 15 feet in, on your right accross from the elevated cash register. read more

This is a great neighborhood shop. I go mostly for skin and hair products (they carry cocoa butter, coconut oil, Jamaican black castor oil, Shea Moisture brand, and Cantu brand among others). They also have assorted lingerie, stockings, makeup, weave, wigs, durags, and accessories like rhinestones, scarves, gloves, hats. There is a small selection of cleaning products as well, and I try to check there before I go to CVS. read more
