Marlow took great care of me! It was amazing and my very first ever getting a head/scalp treatment. I happened to walk in the same time as a gentleman and I asked if he's ever had a treatment. He claims this place is the closest to Japan just double the price. The place is minimalistic and clean. Very quiet as it should be. They give you a hair dryer and tools to do your hair but I chose to air dry. Why har dry and have the noise bother the clients. At least that's what I thought. It's nice that they offer that. After an amazing session wouldn't you want to go home and relax?! I know I did. Marlow was very kind and gentle. A mother's touch! At the end when you sit at the end of the chair there's still more massage but I loved how she just rubbed my back like you would a baby. It was so nice. I'm coming back for more services. read more

Everything from the ease of booking the appointment online, to the luxurious full body massage chair, and indulgent Japanese waterfall head spa - AMAZING!!! Would absolutely come back! Pros - Nakaia did an amazing job! And I'm uber happy I splurged on the additional extended treatment. I definitely felt relieved to rid my body of the built up 'tech' strain in my neck, shoulder, chest, and arms. Worth every penny! - Secure lockers to store your belongings are located at the entrance. - They give you a blanket to keep cozy during the treatment. Bonus! Unfortunately, the blanket's just big enough to cover your stomach and legs. If you easily get chilly, suggest bringing/wearing socks, and maybe even bringing your own blanket to ensure your chest and feet stay warm too. Cons - Parking lot can fill up quickly as they share with Baskin Robbins, Fantastic Sam's, Mana Musubi, i-naba, and Boba House. - The spa is one big open area. The only privacy is created with thin curtains to separate each of the chairs, when in use. Which means you can hear everything, and everything can hear you. (During this visit, I could hear a fairly loud lady, and her teenage daughter and friend carry on like they were the ONLY people in the whole place. Rude!) - your face, shoulders, and chest will get wet. Not really a con, in my book. And you shouldn't be surprised either. You are getting a Japanese style scalp massage after all. I don't know what to expect as I was wanting to get a massage for my tech neck issues and they were the first ones to appear on Google. Boy was I surprised by how amazing this place was. The head massage was to die for. You have a massage chair that will go on during your treatment. I also got a few bit of extras which were totally worth it. Ai, the massage therapist did an absolute amazing job and was super kind. The place is cute with curtains separating each customer for privacy while white noise fills the area. There is a salon inside so you may hear occasional hair dryers but it wasn't to the point of annoyance. Overall 10/10 will come back again! read more

I was debating leaving a review because I didn't want to hurt the business but after thinking about it I would feel guilty if I didn't let others know about my experience - I wish I knew this ahead of time. A couple of weeks ago, my sister and I took our mom there for her birthday, we all got the the deluxe head spa and added the facial for my mom & I - we were all so excited, we had been wanting to try out a head spa for a while! Unfortunately, it turned out to be such a huge disappointment for all of us! We spent about $485 total (including $10 tip from each of us, we gave a small tip because we didn't fault the people servicing us, the service itself just turned out to be so far off from our expectations) The lady that did mine was a nice sweet lady, but I felt like she didn't even want to touch my head. The head massage portion of the spa was non-existent. My 7 year old could've given me a better massage. Even the way my hair was washed, felt like there was zero effort put into it and that I do a better job washing my hair at home. It like like she swished my hair around with her finger tips ever so slightly and even that was not constant, there were periods of the service she just let the water spray on my head. I kept waiting for the actual massage to start and it never did lol. I expected at least a half decent head massage especially for how much money we spent - then I wouldn't have minded having to brush and dry my own hair afterward. I got the same feedback from my mom & sister so I know it wasn't just poor service from her. I believe that's how they are trained to do the treatment. All that being said, the best part of the service was the massage chair - and she didn't even tell me I could put my arms in until I realized & asked about it about halfway through the service. If you're looking to get a head massage this is not the place for you. Wish I had better things to say. read more

My sister referred me to the Head Spa in Honolulu as a must try. I arrived 5 minutes early and managed to find parking in the small lot for my 10am appointment.  It would have been easier to take an Uber/Lyft from Waikiki, a quick 10 minute ride. We discussed the treatment, put my purse in a locker and was escorted to one of the private booths with the massage chair.  They provide a spa wrap for comfort and a basket for your clothes. I melted away in the zero gravity massage chair, it was relaxing.  The facial was soothing and I felt rejuvenated, the tension smoothed away.  After the facial we moved on to the head spa, and wow! My hair is wavy, and had the simple blow dry afterwards, my hair felt soft and smooth. I recommend the Head Spa, especially after a long flight to HNL.  This was just what I needed before my flight back home. The head spa itself was great, super relaxing, felt nice. I took away a few stars because I really think that there should be a better process on styling your hair after the head spa. I have frizzy wavy textured hair, and the girl did not know how to dry it. We paid extra for the rough dry service. It was painful watching her dry my hair she dried it without brushing it - I stopped her and encouraged her to brush it first. She then took a really long time brushing it out I asked if i could help. She the side I brushed took 2 minutes while she continued to brush in a way that kept re- tangling it. Once we got past the brushing part she continued to blow dry it. As she blow dried it she kept doing this motion with her hand that made my hair so frizzy. No brush was used. Once my hair was half dry she said "ok all done you can finish if you like." I was shocked but super relieved because I had a dinner to go to and the whole process was painful to watch without asking her to stop. I finished blow drying my hair but it was too late. Luckily I brought a curling iron by chance. This is a photo of my hair after I finished blow drying. I don't know but the blow dryer tech I plus the products used my hair was a disaster. Even after curling it, it frizzed up within the hour. Note my friend had a different girl who was a "hair dresser" and her hair turned out better. So - if you go and have an event be sure to get the one who is a hair dresser. If not, go straight home read more

I had the BEST head spa experience after a very long flight, and it completely reset me! ! came in feeling exhausted and jetlagged, and left feeling refreshed, clear-headed, and incredibly relaxed. My therapist, Ai, was absolutely amazing - she had such a calming presence and the perfect touch. The head massage was heavenly; I actually fell into a deep, peaceful sleep during the treatment, which almost never happens for me. When I woke up, I felt lighter, my tension was gone! The space was very clean and aesthetically pleasing. I was greeted immediately upon entry and given a locker to place my belongings. Mika provided my service, she was so pleasant and did a great job! I fell asleep because it was so relaxing. I got the Yayoi ritual treatment for $145 (80 min) which included a facial and head spa. I'm sorry. I don't like to give negative reviews because it's not good for the business. I do reviews all the time, but mostly because the service was exceptional. If you're looking for a real massage, this is not the place to go to. My two adult daughters treated me to a head and neck/shoulder massage for my birthday. People were very nice, polite, the place was clean and impressive with the number of massage stalls and seats in front of mirrors for hair drying. However, all three of us came out with the same impression of our massages. $150 a pop for each of us. Can't explain how for all three of us, it was not worth the money (a nicer way of saying a waste of our hard-earned money). My one daughter was so disappointed, she immediately tried to make an appointment with her regular massage place. She was willing to pay for all three of us. We all came out with quiet reserve, instead of beaming with happiness and satisfaction. We were all truly disappointed. We should have known with the five star reviews not explaining exactly what their massage felt like. The three of us came out with the same utter disappointment. We all agreed it was like they only use their nails on your head, not giving you a true massage with their finger tips (at least). There was absolutely NO pressure applied to make your head feel soooo good. It was really weird. Even the shampoo at the end. What? Just felt like they were rinsing off the conditioner they put in your hair with their fingernails. Neck and shoulder massage? It was like they were just spreading the lotion on your skin. Absolutely no massage. Just spreading the lotion. I guess we misinterpreted head spa for head or neck massage. For that I gave one star, being it was our fault for thinking it was going to be a massage. One star was for politeness, and cleanliness of the spa. read more

My wife knows that I like head massages so she took me to this new japanese head spa. Never tried one before and it was very relaxing. You lay down on an automatic massage table while they do the treatment. I got the neck stiffness treatment. They wash your hair and the start with the head massages and pressure points to help relieve the neck stiffness. After it was done, my neck felt more relaxed and not as much tension. I honestly had no idea what Yayoi is, but I was educated it was a Japanese brand that helps hydrate your skin and uses scents like Yuzu and Honey. And it was amazing! Marlo was the one taking care of me and she made sure to educate me on the products and talked me through the things she was doing during the facial and hair wash, so that I wasn't surprised or scared. I felt so safe and soooo relaxed. She massaged the crap outta me and it was just simply amazing! I def recommend booking with Marlo if given the opportunity. I recently booked a head spa experience for myself and two daughters as a late Christmas gift. What an amazing experience! We all got a deluxe spa with add on facial and blow dry. All of us were completely thrilled with the therapists and treatments. I highly recommend them! Even the blow dry was better than my hair stylist! My friend and I wanted to try a scalp massage place as part of our Galentine's Day/Treat yo'self day and picked Head Spa! We went on a Sunday morning (also Superbowl Sunday), so there was ample parking in their shared lot. After we walked in, we put our personal belongings away in lockers and we were given a run down of what would happend during our treatments. My friend picked the Neck Stiffness Relief treatment and I picked the Eye Strain Relief treatment, since I spend a lot of hours in front of the computer. I then met Maki, did a quick bathroom break (since this treatment was about an hour!), and met her back in my assigned area. There was a huge body massage chair with a bowl/sink in the head area, which also had the cool scalp shower attachment! I was asked to change out of my top and into a provided cover up (you can leave your bra on, but I decided not to since it was so close to the water/shower bowl anyway). Then I sank into the massage chair and Maki let me know I could place my arms/hands farther into the chair so that they could be massaged. She asked if I wanted heat as well (yes!) and placed a cozy blanket over me. I appreciated that she would check in with me about the water temperature and pressure of the massage chair. I have huge runner calves, but the massage was really good throughout! Having Maki work on my scalp, feeling the water shower over me, and hearing the peaceful music in the background was all so relaxing. I was very close to falling asleep, honestly! The scalp massage was also very lovely--just enough pressure and not too intense! I didn't even realize certain pressure points needed to be released until then! All the different soaps/conditioners in my hair smelled amazing, and my hair felt so smooth and healthy afterwards. The ice globe soothing eye massage was also a very nice add-on and definitely helped with my under eye puffiness. I felt so relaxed and refreshed after my treatment! I didn't include the add-on blow dry service, but Maki was kind enough to start drying my hair, even for a little bit as she had a customer waiting. I let her know that it was totally okay and that I could dry it. We also received a senbei cracker and cold green tea after our treatment as a little refreshment. Owner has hotel background and decades of spa experience brought this wonderful opportunity to urban Honolulu. I booked a 60min Hair Quality Improvement Anti-hair loss treatment. My head and scalp felt so relaxed, refreshed, and light as a feather for the very first time. They will carefully explain the procedure and ensure you are comfortable your whole entire experience. It made me feel like head spa near a waterfall. First picture, that was the gem. Brilliant innovation and I could do this again. More importantly its a local business which I love. I will DEFINITELY visit this place again. Prices are very reasonable. You receive a spa like experience as you are in Waikiki but not paying the premium price. Not worth the money! I just came back from a head spa experience in SF which happened to be priced the same and the two treatments couldn't have been more different. The SF head spa started w a microscope view of my scalp showing what healthy follicles look like and which parts were a bit dry. There they used three types of combs to exfoliate the scalp, used great smelling shampoos and menthol type of scalp serum that left my scalp feeling minty clean,gave a deep pressure point scalp/neck massage, & finished with a simple straight blow out w some kind of great smelling finishing spray. With Head Spa on King St....well let me start w what I did like. Positives: the owner/mgr was very friendly, the place looked clean, & the massage chair was a nice touch Negatives: the parking is terrible, the lady who did my head spa treatment had the weakest hands. It felt like a child was touching my head for 40 minutes. She asked how the pressure was and I said she could go a bit harder and she remarked w a surprised and annoyed tone. I booked the detox treatment bc the lady said the standard head spa treatment was booked. There was nothing that felt like my scalp was getting "specially cleaned/detoxed or my scalp was being massaged but rather she had the water on most of the time and it felt like she was just moving around some kind of bargain brand shampoo. The mgr/oner said that the detox also included a neck massage and décolleté cleansing. The latter did not occur and the lady who serviced me asked me to sit up in the massage chair while it was still at a 35degree angle while she gave me a weak neck massage that I could have gotten from my 14 yr old daughter. After it was finally done she put me in the salon chair attempted to blow dry my hair for 6-7 min put NO kind of scalp serum on my hair (even though there were several bottle on the counter then said thank you and walked away. You would think for $110 they would at least make sure I didn't leave looking like I stepped out of the shower or got caught in the rain. I honestly don't know how they got 5 stars. I was a class act and still tipped them 20% on both mine and my friend's appt since I wanted to treat my friend to something special & Im not sure how long that business will be around. As much as I want to support small business I would never go back there I would rather pay for a shampoo and blowout bc at least when I've gone for those appts my hair looks and smells great afterwards. Better yet buy yourself a bottle of Aveda Rosemary Mint or Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Oil and shampoo and use the $80 you save to go out and have a nice steak dinner. I really wanted to like this place but sadly the experience left me wanting. read more
