It's been a while since I've gone to Parkville Market, so I went the other day to see what's new. They now have an açaí bowl stand, it's called Head Over Berries. Here they can make smoothies, coffee and açaí bowls. I decided to go for the açaí bowl. I selected one of the options from the menu, the girl said she couldn't make it, they didn't have one of the ingredients. She said I could do "make your own" it basically means selecting my toppings. So I chose kiwi, blackberries, goji berries and granola. I paid $11.50, which is more than the listed price on the menu. I was pretty disappointed in the way my açaí bowl was prepared. The açaí base was premade. There was no use of a blender at all. She scooped it in a cup, from the freezer, just like ice cream. She then sliced the kiwi into little squares, and same with the blackberries. Topped with goji berries and granola. This was more of a frozen berry ice cream, than any açaí bowl I've ever had. This wasn't at all creamy, it was hard and cold. It was pretty tasty and sweet. The consistency is however all wrong. It might be ok, to get a bowl here in the summer, since it's refreshing and cold. There are so many places that will make it fresh, that I would rather go to. All places can't be winners.

The menu included delicious combos but customizations were possible. Reasonably priced. Some indoor seating. Would definitely return!

Good but basic coffee and matcha…read more Came here on the hunt for coffee spots. Generally don't like going into Hartford, but figured it was early enough to avoid the major crowds and traffic. When I first got here, the barista was not ready to take orders yet, so I sat down while they prepped for the day. After about 15 minutes they were ready, so I ordered a basic latte and sat back down. The coffee bar has no food and only coffee and matcha drinks, relying on other businesses to fill that gap when they don't offer food at the primary location. The hours on Saturday don't match up with the other local businesses, so it leads to the ability to get coffee but not food till at least an hours time from open. The latte was basic, coffee is of a decent quality and the milk was frothy. No real design work beyond a basic onion off-center. They had one special latte, a pb&j inspired iced latte. Opted against, since they were still prepping for those orders when I went to order. It's functional coffee for the area. Not bad but not special either. It's a place to get a cup of joe on Pratt street, and it's good coffee but nothing to call home about.

You most certainly need not take it though and take a step the other way into Refugee Tattoos side. I got myself a double espresso with a pump of vanilla. I think I could've done without since it wasn't sweet. I want to visit again and have it one more time! The barista was lovely and she didn't rush me at all as I made my choice. She also made great recommendations. It was nice and quiet in the studio though that's not to say they didn't have any other clients beyond the curtain. Everyone was friendly.

Afterwards I stay downstairs and experienced the coffee shop. I ordered a gluten-free breakfast sandwich, which was really good. The bread was a bit firm, but I actually appreciated that since most gluten-free bread tends to fall apart. This one held up nicely. My honey latte was absolutely delicious, smooth, perfectly sweet, and beautifully made. There's also a cute outdoor seating area, great for relaxing with coffee on a nice day. Parking is on the street around the corner, since the street the shop is on is closed to cars and open to pedestrians only, which adds to the charm of the area. You order at the counter, get a number, and they bring your food right to your table. When you're finished, you clear your own dishes to the bin, which keeps the place tidy. I also noticed the staff going around regularly wiping tables and keeping everything clean and welcoming. Overall, Bloom Bake Shop has a great vibe, tasty food, and friendly service. Definitely worth checking out!

Is it a flower shop? Is it a coffee shop? Is it a bakery? Of course, it's all three. We popped in a little before their 1:00 Sunday closing today, and the only bakery items remaining were four lemon blueberry scones. We scooped up two of them at $3.75 each. Now a scone isn't always a scone. Some have the density and weight of a doorstop or a hockey puck. Not these, they were as good as any scone we've ever sampled. They were soft, fresh, and bursting with lemon and blueberry fruit and taste. They were exceptionally great. The interior was very pretty with flower displays, booths, tables, and plenty of goodies for sale like bags of granola, pastries, and sandwiches. The exterior dining patio was packed with customers finishing off their lunches or late breakfasts while sipping their coffees, espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes. Thank you, Bloom Bake Shop, for a very enjoyable visit.

Perfectly fine quick breakfast spot…read more Came here on the fly, looking for new breakfast spots and found this one on my feed. The parking situation is a little weird, there's some spots in front or by the side, but they are not really marked well. But there's a lot of spaces for the actual dining space. The inside is simple but clean, lots of seats for the space and a reasonable display for their pastries and donuts. The menu is simple and the options are low. It's very much designed to be a quick breakfast spot. I opted for one of their donuts and a latte, with a French toast platter. Food came out quickly, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was okay. The donut was large, cakey but freshly made. The strawberry frosting was a little heavy on the extract which gave a chemically taste to the frosting, but it wasn't off putting just noticeable. The French toast was slightly undercooked, but I do enjoy custardity bites so it was good enough. The eggs were also underdone, but I just ignored those. The turkey bacon was crisp and the home fries were seasoned very well. Unlike other home fries I have had, these ones actually had flavor. As a breakfast spot, it does well enough for the local crowd. When done properly, the food put out at this location can be good if not great. I'm fairly confident if I made them aware of my issues, they would resolve them without fail. If you need a quick breakfast and happen to be in east hartford near the police station, his place works for that quick meal. It isn't fancy, but it's basic food done right.

I certainly haven't had one of their smoothies since then, nor have I stepped inside. Well last week I decided to see what's new on the menu. This Robeks' location is very tiny. It can only sit two patrons at a time. Their menu has a wide range of smoothies, juices, açaí bowls and avocado toast. I decided to go for the toast with peanut butter and banana. There were only two people working here, they weren't particularly friendly. They did make what I requested. The bread was a very generous slice of toasted Sourdough Bread. I certainly hope it came from The Hartford Baking Company, which is next door from this Robeks, but I don't think it did. There was an equally generous spreading of peanut butter, followed by sliced banana, honey and chia seeds. It arrived in a to go container. Which is wasteful, since I planned on sitting inside. This was pretty delicious! I love peanut butter with banana, it's sweet and nutty! This was $6.99. Their other options of toast also look pretty tasty! If you like juices, smoothies, and the similar, stop by Robeks and give them a try!
