My girlfriend was kind enough to book and prepay for a 90-minute deep tissue massage for me, and decided to book one for herself at the same time. The first 45 minutes were spot on. The original masseuse found the knots in my back, neck, shoulders, and left hip and went straight to work. But midway through the session, someone else entered the room and took over without warning. First off, her hands were freezing. Second, she was completely worthless--zero pressure, no deep tissue work at all, just loads of oil and light rubbing. She "worked" on my right leg, but did absolutely nothing to address the muscle tension. By the end of the session, I was drenched in oil and literally walking with a limp because my left leg had been properly massaged by the first person, but my right leg received zero actual treatment. To make matters worse, when my girlfriend (who had the same masseuse for her entire session) approached the manager about why my therapist was switched, the manager's excuse was: "Oh, because it was her turn." No apology whatsoever. The manager just casually said, "When he comes back, he can request the full session be with the original masseuse." There will not be a next time. Terrible customer service, zero care for a client in pain, and completely unprofessional management. I would never recommend Thai Spa on Eastern Ave.

I've been coming to IMR Massage for about five years now, and it's been my go-to place for massage…read moretherapy. I've consistently had great experiences here, which is why I've continued supporting this business for so long. The therapists I've worked with have always been knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely attentive. They take the time to listen to my concerns before each session and tailor the treatment accordingly. I always leave feeling significantly better than when I walked in, and that's why I've remained a loyal customer for so many years. Unfortunately, I recently learned that IMR is now charging a 3% surcharge for credit card payments, and I have to say, it really annoys me. In today's world, paying with a credit card is the norm, and accepting those processing fees has traditionally just been part of the cost of doing business. Seeing that expense passed directly on to loyal customers--especially members--was disappointing. I truly enjoy supporting this business and would much rather continue my membership, but this new surcharge has honestly made me question whether I want to keep it. It's unfortunate because the quality of the massages has never been the issue. I sincerely hope they reconsider this policy, because it's the one thing that's making me think twice about continuing as a member.

The younger girl then made me pay for an hour $80 with a $5 credit card fee and I tipped $20 on top of that before the massage. It started at 8.02pm, I know that because right when she started my phone rang. For 30 mins she just applied minimum pressure , no massage skills at all. Just press here press there. This is an upscale Japanese (not Chinese)/Asian massage spa. Nice decor and upscale dressed staff…read more This was my 2nd time there. The massage that I had was great! The table was very comfortable (most Asian massage tables are too hard for me) and has a head cradle instead of a hole in the table. The staff that I met was very nice. The negative comments that I have read seem to be from people that are not knowledgeable about Asian massage spas. To address some of the negative comments: Almost all Asian spas that I have gone to ask for a "tip" upfront. It's why the advertised prices are so low. The $ that I paid, including the upfront tip, for a 90 minute massage was appropriate for an upscale place like this. If you are polite the people you talk to are nice to you too. From my experience with just about every Asian spa that I have visited they say "we are busy" when they don't have any availability at that time. It's because of their limited English, not because they are being rude. Most Asian spas don't have a receptionist. That's how they keep their prices low. It is common for your massage person to have to answer the phone or door during your massage. The only negative thing is that their advertised price, including what they quote over the phone, doesn't include the mandatory tip. If you walk in to make an appointment for a later time they tell you the full price upfront. As a Japanese Asian spa they do not do reflexology foot treatments (massages) From my experience in Japan it is customary for female staff to only massage male clients and male staff to massage female clients. It's not sexist. It's cultural.
