I love supporting a local business (Ace is a franchise, so it is better for the local economy than Home Depot). I generally am able to easily find most of the things I need for small house or gardening projects and for bigger things, or things that aren't in the store, they can order it and have it delivered to your home. We ordered a bunch of outdoor furniture through them. Most recently, I grabbed some garden shears and wire tomato growing cages at Ace. I like the employees and generally find them to be helpful and happy to have me as a customer. Highly recommended.

Counter staff helped direct me downstairs. The guy (Carrie?) was super helpful, and cut a light chain to size and attached a magnetic two sided key ring to hold together. He was great, particularly as I had lost my voice and it was clearly an unusual request. Dishonest! I wanted to replace a set of bifold closet doors. When I contacted Home Depot I…read moreprovided them with the measurements that another company had already provided. I was told that they had to come to measure so fine. They did and someone was supposed to contact me within 2-3 business days. They did not so I reached out and finally contacted Joan Gomes. She spent a great deal of time 'trying to find' the right doors and offered me a $1000 door or for $372 or so I thought a mismatched pair of doors. When I said I was willing to consider the mismatched set all of sudden she is quoting me over $1000 for installation and the doors. When I ask for my $40 back because they don't have what I want I am told my fee is non-refundable. Well, if you don't have the product I told you in the first place that I wanted then I should get my money back! She was deceitful writing in her email to me that she was closing the case because of the cost. She didn't have the doors to fit my closet. Update: I am amending my review because after posting, I was contacted and Home Depot researched my situation and refunded the $40 fee. I appreciate very much their doing the right thing.

As a home-owner in the nearby South End for more than 40-years, I've had my share of plumbing and…read moreheating problems over those decades. And I've learned (because I've had to learn) how to fix or replace the occasional faucet set, garbage disposal and Taco heating zone valve which inevitably fail. My go to store has been Ace Plumbing Supply for all those years. Physically, it is the most unprepossessing place to look at, housed in a windowless, single story, brick warehouse-like structure on a dreary, industrial stretch of Mass Ave. You walk into a cluttered space with a haphazard assortment of plumbing and heating merchandise and are immediately greeted by genuinely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Once you explain your problem, the staff member knows exactly what you need, finds the parts, patiently walks you through the fix, and sends you on your way. Try doing that in one of the Big Box stores that every one thinks about when it comes to home repairs. Even more astonishing, Ace P&S is almost always just a little less expensive than Home Depot which is less than a mile away. You are likely to spend less time in Ace P&S for the entire experience than you will waiting in the check-out line at Home Depot. In this place, the customer is king. I've had this experience over and over again during the last 40-years. I'm not a plumber or a trades person, and I probably only go there a few times each year; but I've always been treated as if my particular problem is just as important as someone whose livelihood depends on it. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. This place is a throwback to a great era most of us don't believe exists anymore. It's the real thing, and it's terrific.
