Best roadside Lobster Shack we've been to on this vacation. Lobster rolls were very reasonably priced and the portion size was ample. Meat was tender too, a bit of lettuce for a slight crunch. Clam chowder was excellent also, and the Cheese fries were crispy & delicious (and smothered in cheese). Everything really "Hit the Spot", we left satisfied. If you love lobster, do NOT miss Hazel's. Everyone says they know the best place to get lobster rolls, but this is it. Had a cold Maine Lobster Roll. It was lightly dressed with mayo, lettuce, and served on a buttery, toasted roll. The lobster meat was piled high and extremely fresh. Paired with homemade french fries and a house made Arnold Palmer. Even though it's a fake out place, there is plenty of seating at brightly colored picnic tables. Recent visit. Looking for new places to eat in the Rockland area and this place was busy so we decided to give it a try. It's located on RT 17 at a four way crossing. There are tables to eat with umbrellas spaced out to give privacy. My dog was also welcome. We ordered a cheeseburger 9.50 and chicken tenders with fries for 17.50, seltzer was 4.+. You sit and the meal is brought out to you. They don't actually want you waiting at the window as they told my son twice to find a table. The meal was served with no napkins, condiments or silverware. The cheeseburger was very greasy and looked and tasted like a premade frozen burger. The ketchup and mustard was all over the bun and It got all over me the first bite and continued till I gave the rest to my dog. The tenders were small and one (5) had no chicken it was just breading, again frozen not fresh. The fries were excellent hot but as they started to cool the grease could really be tasted over everything else. They were the best part of the meal. Would I go back? No. Very pricey for frozen fast food. read more

Moved to Rockland 3 months ago and Hazel's has quickly established itself as our go to establishment for no frills seafood favorites. We have had 6-7 different menu items now and are yet to have a bad meal. The portion size is always above average and the seafood tastes very fresh. The crab roll is phenomenal, the fried whole belly clams are some of the best around and their Italian sausage and peppers is absolutely delicious. In my experience, you can't go wrong. I think Hazel's gets less love than other places because it's not waterfront. But the food more than makes up for the modest setting. My absolute favorite spot to grab a quick bite in Rockland. Get the chili--its perfect, and great on its own or over fries/a hot dog. The fried haddock sandwich comes out hot and fresh, with a big, flakey, delicious piece of fish. The burgers and dogs are delicious. Haven't tried the lobster roll but it looked delicious and the diners next to us raved about it as they enjoyed one. For those with allergies: They were great about helping me figure out whats in/out the menu. They use peanut oil on the grill top, but not in the deep fryer, so I still had lots of options. Food is always hot and fresh. Service is fast and friendly. Outdoor picnic tables are always clean. Overall, just a fantastic lunch spot on the Midcoast. read more

I had heard good things about the food at Hazel's so my daughter and I and her kids went there for the first time on Monday. It was awful and expensive. The food was made sloppily and I dumped most of my cheeseburger. The bun fell apart and the meat was dry with too many toppings. My daughter threw away her chili cheese fries because they were gross and her son didn't eat his veggie sub. My granddaughter liked her chicken strips and our fries were good. We dropped almost $100 on a mostly inedible meal. I called and let the owner Jessie know. She apologized but I'll never go back there. read more

I've been meaning to stop by Hazel's for a long time and am so glad I finally did! We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with the fries and drink combo, a fried haddock sandwich, and a fish and chips with a side of onion rings. The fish was perfectly fried! Crispy on the outside and delicate on the inside. Also, it was a whole haddock fillet, not pieces. The tartar sauce was great and the fries were really amazing. The buns were lightly buttered and toasted and absolutely perfect on all the sandwiches. Onion rings were good but not great like the fries. Cole slaw was the one area of disappointment as it was overly creamy with a sharp, bitter vinegary taste like past due food. We will be back and will continue to try other items on the menu but now know to order fries and avoid Cole slaw for the perfect Hazel's experience. Ambiance: Hazel's is always busy and has added additional outdoor seating. Most of the no fuss picnic benches are shaded and will comfortably seat a group of 4-6. Even when they're seemingly "not busy" Hazel's may be fulfilling take out orders as they're very popular with locals and there are many nearby businesses. This was actually my first visit to Hazel's, I should have come before, but word of mouth about the great roadside stand for takeout drew me in! The parking lot and picnic tables were packed. I read the Yelp reviews and went for the double cheeseburger delux. It was juicy, delicious, and I couldn't finish it. My mother had the fish and chips, my wife had the Hazel's sausage. Terrific local spot! Order online and skip the line! Hazel's is a great local drive-in like carry out spot. They have all kinds of seafood, burgers, sandwiches, etc. The fish and chips were crispy and perfectly cooked. The chicken tender basket was similarly great. Nothing was greasy or not cooked correctly. Every time we drove by there was a line and the sign says everything is cooked to order - which suggests there could be a wait - but we ordered online from home and they came out with it into the parking lot exactly on time and we skipped the whole lunchtime line! I've had many burgers in my life. One of the very best is Hazels breakfast burger. Many years of painstaking research and development must have gone into this burger. The tastes and textures were balanced and complimentary. Bacon was perfect; crunchy and crumbly. The egg was smooth, and onions sweet and savory. The bun is wonderful; buttery and soft, and holds everything in a warm and loving embrace. ordered a cheeseburger, no where on the menu or by the person taking order said there's were cooked medium well. burger came out bloody, with blood on the bun as well, I asked if they could redo this & was told absolutely not, they don't have a meat thermometer and all burgers are medium well, mine was more rare then medium well., I was just going to throw it away but my husband took it back up & was told the same thing except he would not take no for the answer, they finally said they would redo it. the girl who brings the food out came to the table 30 minutes later to say it was just put on the grill and that they cook all burgers to medium well unless you ask different, no where did they provide this information, once again my burger was oozing blood!!! said they do not redo orders???, the lady in the kitchen brought my burger out after about 35 to 40 minute wait & repeated same spill, I told her they need to let people know about the policy, she said everyone liked their burgers medium well, I told her look mine was bloody & had blood on the bun, she said that's the only reason they replaced it & yet once again, it was my responsibility to tell them how I wanted my burger cooked, this is not a fancy restaurant, and if they keep telling me they have no meat thermometer how will they cook it to well done? offered an apology after all the round & round, even though that burger was cooked well done & tasted very good, we will never eat there again due to the aggravation! My hubby and I showed up at around 3pm on a Saturday, so pretty close to closing time. I ordered the Veggie Fries (sweet potato fries with sautéed mushrooms, peppers and blue cheese on top) and he got a Double Cheeseburger with Bacon and a side of fries. Let me just say, the fries are to die for. They are so good, no ketchup required which is saying something. The shroom burger was fantastic and loaded with mushrooms and cheese, he added nothing to it. The breakfast burger was awesome and the egg was cooked perfect. We will be back, that's for sure!!!
