Such a cuuuuuuuute store! Really it was like all the gift items were made to be given to me. Lots of tiny things. I like tiny things. The service was really bad, unfriendly, not helpful in the least bit. I had a gift certificate and wanted to buy something. The 2 people working said hello then ignored me. I've met the owner of this shop - Dave - who is super nice. I think he needs to know that when he's not there, his staff seems like they're not interested in making a sale or even trying to be nice. Ever put gift-getting off to the last minute? Same here. I stopped in here for a Mother's Day last minute gift. Not only were the sales people able to help me within a minute of finding something my mom would like - they gift wrapped it, and had me out the door as fast as I could get the cash out of my wallet. I challenge you to find a better gift store in the city. Other places may also have an excellent card/stationery selection, and plenty of other stores have great soaps, jewelry, baby gifts, or purses, but I have yet to find a place that combines all of those things so well. One of my friends bought me a pair of earrings from hazel, and while I was mooning over them, she casually mentioned that the store carries Satellite jewelry. For those of you unfamiliar, Satellite is a jewelry line out of Paris and the only other store that carried their jewelry was an offshoot in Soho in New York, which to my devastation closed last year. So you can imagine my excitement on this discovery! I quickly went to check out their collections, and of course bought a pair of amazing Satellite earrings, and was told that when they get new collections in, the leftovers from the previous collection goes on sale. How do I adore thee, Hazel.........let me count the ways........this gift store at Wolcott and Montrose is the bomb and I never go there without making a purchase. The owner, David, has the best taste in purses at very reasonable price points. The jewelry selection is wonderfully varied from the avant garde to the more sedate pieces. The greeting card section is stocked with very unusual and often funny cards - great vendors! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable, especially Tim, whom I think is an asst mgr. The discovery of Hazel was definitely the highlight of my evening (and Glenn's chowder is hard to top!) for Hazel is now my go-to greeting card shop in the city! Their card selection is the best I've come across and ranges from sweetly screened boutique cards to oh-my-God-I-can't-believe-someone-made-this, laugh out loud funny cards. In addition to carrying fresh flowers (always a plus), they also carry an incredible selection of well priced stationary, jewelry and can't-live-without-it trinkets. The owner was also incredibly kind and most helpful while my boyfriend hemmed and hawed over a wallet. Overall, a definite must-stop in the area and well worth an extra trip on its own. This is one of my favorite neighborhood places to shop. They always have a great selection and pick so many unique items every season to feature. The service is very relaxed-the staff is pleasant and helpful. This is not an aggressive environment, so they don't attack you when you enter the door--which I appreciate. When you ask for assistance, someone is available. Recently purchased a defective item. Owner replaced with no issues and was very apologetic. I love their men's clothing store also. Walked by and decided to go in, expecting just another overpriced boutique, however we were wrong. Everything here is so neat. Really cool greeting cards, that cost just as much, if not less than the ones you would get any other store. Really cute gifts for babies, we kept trying to think if we knew anyone having a baby because the stuff was just so gosh darn cute! There wasn't one thing I didn't like in here, even my boyfriend loved it all. Great jewelry, some of which can get pricey but you get what you pay for and this stuff was COOL. Cute hair accessories and lots of cute hats. The candles here are awesome too, they all smell so good. The candles are a bit pricey but it would be worth it if you are big into candles. Our favorite things here were the housewares and the flowers. The flowers here are all so unique and pretty, there were some that we had never seen or heard of. We ended up buying a hanging flower vase for our wall and a cute flower to put in it. Definitely check this place out, it has a lot of cute things that anybody would love. Be it jewelry, candles, a wallet or bag or just a gift certificate, Hazel never disappoints. A huge added bonus is the absolutely fabulous (and free!) gift wrapping, which makes even the smallest of gifts look more thoughful (and definitely more expensive). The people there are super nice and act happy to wrap your gift for you whether you spend $10 or $100. I have been going to Hazel for years now. It is my go to place to find a unique gift for someone. Their great selection of jewelery has made my lady happy on many occasions. She has been asked several times where she has gotten her jewelry from. I am also a huge fan of their greeting card section you can always find something hilarious, romantic, or just plain weird. They have a little men's section where I was lucky enough to get a awesome silk screen print tie and I also got a pair of cufflinks for my wedding there that I am absolutely in love with. Their kid section is always full of cool books and neat toys. You really can't go wrong with this store for any gift occasion. This is really a great place and is worth supporting.
