Our second home as our son plays hockey here. Always has fun and loves the staff and coaches. So happy he's found this place.

I fully expect this review may be buried or deleted, but if I can save even one local family from…read moreexperiencing the embarrassment and hostility my guests and I faced today, it will be worth it. I brought a group of 14 children to celebrate a birthday on a Sunday. Because official party packages were booked out (and wildly overpriced for a mere 45-minute window), I took the initiative to call days in advance. I spoke directly with the General Manager, Casey, to give a heads-up that a large group of 25+ (including parents) would be paying general admission. I explicitly agreed to their rules: tables were first-come, first-served, and there was a strict no-outside-food policy. Unfortunately, compliance meant absolutely nothing to the staff or management. From the moment we arrived, we were treated less like paying patrons and more like inmates under surveillance. The Experience: Hostile Greeting: Before even being greeted at the counter, a staff member scolded me for holding balloons and a clear personal water cup. I was told balloons are only permitted for "official" paid parties. The "No Gift" Policy: When my guests arrived, they were stopped at the front desk and barred from bringing in birthday cards or gift bags. They were forced to walk back to their cars to leave presents for a child. When I asked GM Casey to show me where this "policy" was listed, he smirked, rolled his eyes, and dismissively said, "It's policy." Targeted & Inconsistent Enforcement: While my guests were turned away at the door with gift bags, I observed multiple other patrons walking freely around the facility with them. When pointed out, Casey condescendingly snapped, "Do you know if they are here for a party?" and continued to roll his eyes. Overbearing Surveillance: Throughout the afternoon, my guests were repeatedly scolded for simply holding water near (not on) the rink, and even reprimanded for taking quick photos of their kids near the floor. Unprofessional Behavior: To cap off the aggressive atmosphere, I witnessed GM Casey physically snatch a cupcake out of an adult patron's hand and throw it into the trash, rather than professionally asking the guest to discard or consume it outside. It was shocking and utterly uncalled for. The Bottom Line: A business reflects its leadership. Casey's arrogant, defensive, and power-tripping demeanor has clearly trickled down to his staff. When I asked for a partial refund since I never even skated myself, he tapped the counter and pointed to a "no refunds" sign. When asked for the owner's information, he aggressively rattled off a first name and a generic email address (Lynn@skatenfunzone.com). Collectively, my group spent over $400 today, only to be met with suspicion, hostility, and embarrassment. Being the only rink in the immediate area does not give management a license to treat local families like garbage. In today's economy, customer service matters. Do not spend a dime here until senior leadership undergoes serious re-training.

Color me impressed!…read more My four-year old recently finished a beginner course with Fairfax Ice Arena and now has the confidence to try to run away from me on the rink during a busy public skate session Honestly, I had no idea what to expect because my daughter is so small but our instructor Melinda was absolutely awesome with keeping our little ones safe, engaged, and learning on the ice! She knew everyone's name and was able to keep track of a bunch of toddler/early elementary old crazies which she deserves a gold medal for in itself. We would definitely join in on another session with her in the future. The prices of the lessons were really affordable and they also included several public skate admission/rentals so the kiddos could practice their skills which made the package a great value. My only suggestion is more formal information via email on what to expect before the first class so we as parents can prepare better.

There's also often a Groupon for 2 for the price of 1. I also really enjoy the music they play - it's got me moving to the music as I skate. I know it's not as new as some places but I like the convenient location and I like that I almost always see a friend there since lots of people go to this arena.

We live close to the Fairfax Ice Rink so were not expecting too much of a difference, but we were impressed as soon as we pulled up into the parking lot. The lobby is expansive with lots of space to walk around, sit down, and put on your skates. The girls at the front desk were SO friendly and helpful -- even volunteering to help us lug in our snow penguins from the rental area to the ice rink when they realized we were outnumbered by little kiddos There is a dedicated hockey rink as well as an Olympic sized rink that we utilized for public skate. My sister did not partake in skating, but was able to watch on the stands. Everything was well maintained and I saw tons of staff cleaning, supervising, and just overall doing an amazing job the whole time I was there. Seriously, color me impressed.

Sick of it and after years of gently suggesting some possible alternatives, like use your many hours of dead ice for just lessons, and allow mid level and beginner players to have the entire ice and you might actually get more of us to come out. Segregate small kids on one side and adults on the other with no lessons if you want to mix ages.
