Two rinks, and very busy there for the competition weekend. Clean and easy facilities. Upstairs for seating and viewing, both sides have seating inside the rinks, too. Vendors popped in for the Potomac Memorial NQS competition. They also have a Slice Theory pizza shop attached that opens up a bit later in the day. Inside, there's a dedicated space as a Memorial to the lost AA5342 flight skating team members from the rink, including skaters, parents and coaches. May they rest in peace. read more

I have been coming to the AIH for the last 14 yrs and I have always received outstanding service. My younger child is enrolled now in lessons and she is having a great time. The instructors are very kind and helpful!!! I was very pleased with my visit to the shop yesterday. The young man who helped us was very friendly and courteous. Lastly, I appreciate the fact that they are open and I love to see the athletes coming to building to practice. AIH has done a great job keeping their doors open and their athletes safe during Virginia's Stage 2 and Stage 3 reopening. Their employees are always on the ball, quickly answer questions, and ensure public health guidance is being followed. The online platforms for reservations are also very user friendly. The pro shop has solid customer service and competitive pricing. We've been very happy with our fittings and purchases. We actually paid less for our last pair of skates than we would have with some of the online 'discounters.' read more

One of the best ice skating facilities in the region. Its modern, clean and generally well run. The ice is reliably good. I'd give it five stars but for one thing: their group lessons are disorganized. Their instructor to student ratio is often not ideal and they leave no time between a group lesson ending and the next one starting. This means an epic traffic jam during changeover and your child's lesson won't typically start on time. I've timed them, and sometimes it'll be up to 8 minutes before they start their first drill (the average being about a 5 minute late start). And that's just not a great deal when you are paying for a 30-minute lesson. My sons have taken group lessons in pretty much all local rinks, and Ashburn is the worst managing those transitions. The ice is really smooth! I've only been once, for an Adult 2 lesson, and I really appreciate this place. First, it's great that they have two rinks, and a pro shop. Second, if you sign up for lessons, you get a free practice skate with each one and you can either do it after the lesson or come a different time during the week. They are very organized and sent me an email prior with all of the information I would need. But the number one thing for me is the ice--they clearly maintain it well, it was a lot smoother than I am used to. read more

I'm leaving this review to communicate my complaint about Ashburn Ice House Hockey Director Troy MacCormick. I had two sons that played in the in-house league and I had contacted him regarding my dis-satisfaction with the program. He initially did not respond to me or my concerns. After numerous attempts to get in contact with him, Mr. MacCormick finally returned my call and I spoke on the phone about my concerns. Mr. MacCormick was extremely rude and arrogant to me. I was consummately polite throughout the call, but Mr. MacCormick nevertheless belittled my concerns and made insulting statements directed to me and my son. One of the things that most upset me about that call was when he flippantly asked me "where would your son even go to play if not here?". I politely replied that Ion had a house league that I could send him there. Mr. MacCormick sarcastically replied "yeah, I bet they'd take him" and chuckled, which I interpreted as meaning my son wasn't worth his time. For me, that was the last straw. I'm not going to let anyone talk bad about my son. I paid a great deal of money to have my sons play hockey at Ashburn Ice House. I have spent a small fortune to send them to multiple programs at Ashburn Ice House over the past five years, in fact. I have never once complained about anything. I contacted Mr. MacCormick with legitimate concerns that arose from my son having a poor experience with the program that he is running. My son, quite frankly, doesn't want to play hockey anymore as a result of his poor experiences in the house league and I thought that Mr. MacCormick would be sympathetic to that as a coach and a father. I also thought that Ashburn Ice House would want the kids to have the best experience possible and love the sport. I was apparently wrong for thinking that. I will never spend another dime at Ashburn Ice House. To fully drive home my point, I spent close to $2000 for my sons to play in this in-house league this season. The season is only 25% complete and I still decided to pull both of them out to put them in a different program. I don't have extra money lying around. This was an extremely difficult decision, but I'm not going to send my kids to a program run by an awful human being who doesn't care about them. Neither of my sons will ever step foot in Ashburn Ice House again and I strongly advise anyone reading this to take their children elsewhere as well. read more

100% rip off. Business practices are dishonest and those of a business that is poorly managed. Their Ace Academy required 60 days notice to cancel, now it's changed to 30 days notice and $300 to sign back up latter. They want you to continue paying through the summer when they have very little to offer. They also will replace off ice classes with bollywood or some other stuff that the skaters are not interested in leaving the regularly paying customers with no classes. Hey heres an idea to the owners, how about providing value for your regular paying customers. Earn what you charge. If things don't improve soon we'll find another ice house. read more

Great facility, quality ice. The place is well-maintained, clean and modern. The staff is friendly and helpful, especially in the pro shop. A bunch of pickup hockey times available, which I like. They offer public skates, lessons, leagues, etc on their two ice rinks. A pizza restaurant is attached to the facility which is neat, though I have never tried it. From a public skating perspective, this place has gone downhill. I went at the end of the holidays for the first time in a while - at least a couple years. We arrived 10-15 minutes after the public skate session began (mind you that they have two rinks), and the ice was a mess. Big tracks and divots, obviously had not been zamboni'd. When I put on the rental skates, they felt off somehow. I'm not a bad skater, but I couldn't move in these. We had some other people arrive, including my mom and aunt, and they commented on how the blades of the skates were bent (my mom actually fell on the ice, and she's a better skater than me). That's when I looked at mine and realized that was the big problem. I had already been "skating" for an hour, and I was done. I brought the bent skates to the manager's attention and asked for a refund, and he obliged. The manager was quite nice but the damage was done. I have hip/low back problems and my experience with these skates made them worse. I still feel the pain, and it's been three weeks. If you're going to go for the public skate, bring your own skates and check the ice before you go out. read more

I skate with my three children, ages 3, 5, and 11 year olds weekly. The staff is professional, friendly, and very helpful. We love ice skating. This is a really popular place. My children also take ice skating lessons here. The instructors are phenomenal. I have been blown away by quality of their children's lessons. My daughter's first lesson was the first time she had been on the ice. She is my 3 year old. She is a small 3 year old. By the end of the lesson she could stand independently on the ice. By the end on the second lesson, she was skating and standing independently. The instructors are really that good. My 5 year old also had no experience. He is skating, weaving, jumping (little jumps), stopping, turning in only three lessons. My 11 year old son has learned equally as fast. The lessons are worth every penny! I would like to see more ice monitors on the public skate. When I have gone on Saturdays, it is very crowded and I have seen some spills that may have been avoidable if some people were not trying to show off. Maybe during this time they could have both rings open for public skate instead of just two because they can get busy. No matter what, we love this place and it will continue to be part of our weekly routine. I would recommend Ashburn Ice House to anyone. read more

Great asset to have in Ashburn! Some decent open skate times although I always find the website very challenging to navigate. Classes are good on weekends for kids and most of the instructors are very personable and it's nice of AIH to give free open skate vouchers with class purchase! Love to attend the hockey games of all age and skill level. Who ever decided to make pomodoros pizza part of the ice house is probably rich and a genius - best pizza in the area and easy access after classes. Try their salads and other entrees too, all very good. Arcade is not their core competency so I will go easy here but, how about a couple of kid appropriate games? Something simple like Galaga or pacman would be nice versus the crummy games my kids don't like. The candy claw game is good and air hockey is cool. Overall this is a great place for ice sports and a nice idea in the winter to go spend an hour watching hockey games to get of the house. read more

This place is overall nice. There are two ice rinks mostly used for sports teams. I came here twice as a semi-beginner recreational skater. You need to find out when the rink is open to public. Then you usually have an hour to skate. As I said, it's an overall nice spot, however usually packed with kids and teenagers being a little too crazy sometimes. There's not really an opportunity to smoothly skate some leaps because there's no advanced and beginner skaters separation. So everyone is skating in the same area trying their best not to bump into each other. read more

Visited here for a holiday open skate- 2 indoor ice rinks that host a variety of activities from youth to adult programming, lessons, hockey, etc. Skate price was $7 for 2 hours (more than enough time), skate rental was $3 (but they were ouchy, and I had to stop many times to adjust the tongue). We had a nice time and had a snack at Pomodoro (pizza place adjoining the complex) before watching some adult pickup hockey. Something different, and worth a try. read more

We were here for a hockey tournament. This facility was used during the Congressional Challenge event. It is a well run facility. Has all the amenities, a very well stocked pro shop, food vending machines video games spacious lobby, sitting/viewing area. Great viewing for hockey games. read more

My son plays hockey and Troy McCormick is a fantastic guy. He is quiet fellow and has a reserved demeanor off the ice, on the ice...a completely different story. He does a great job coaching and runs a tight ship. The only other program that offers a better hockey division is the Little Caps and Richmond Generals. Ashburn is often top seed in the cbhl and is very competitive. read more

Ice is NUMBER ONE quality. Two NHL sized rinks. The local NHL team the Washington Capitals sponsor and have played here. Pro shop is stacked with goodies, as mentioned, and has everything you're looking for. The rental skates can give some people a pain, but if you want cheap skates go to Play It Again Sports if you're seriously into skating. Great time to watch High School hockey games or Adult Pick Up if you're into that sort of thing. Pizza place attached is great, but even better Cheesesteaks! Great quality food and great people. Even some of the restraunt workers play hockey (I played with them once). Only had one problem with a staff member, who I haven't seen since. They do have ice monitors that work every Public Skate as well. read more

We like Ashburn Ice because it's close and during the summer they have lots of stick and shoots. The facility is also pretty decent with a restaurant inside. However, today and on several other occasions my son (who is in his teens) and husband have gone to stick and shoots where 7 of the older kids are not wearing ANY equipment. These players actually go out in shorts. I know many other rinks who require kids to wear equipment on the ice. It's hard for players who do wear equipment to have a good practice when they are trying to avoid these irresponsible players. Is anybody at the rink enforcing these rules? Why don't these kids go to the out-side rink if they don't want to wear equipment? This is the only rink in the area where we've seen kids be allowed on the ice without equipment and wearing shorts. I wonder if the rink's insurance company knows this??? read more

Very disappointed in the Learn to Skate classes. Waste of time and money. Classes cut short to 20 min and they only have one instructor for two level of classes at the same time for about 15-20 kids. Absolutely not worth the money. read more

Ahhhh...my 100th review! And I wanted it to be a special one for me so I put this one off for awhile. I had the pleasure of attending a birthday party here with my lovely 8 year old niece and about 30 other 7 to 9 year old girls. It was a blast. I didn't mind spending my Saturday with them at all. Now, while most of the 'rents were standing along the edges and just cringing, I was on the ice with them and having a ball. I nearly cracked a rib from laughing when they fell ( I know, I'm a jerk...but it was funny!). I would just be skating along and feel a kid suddenly grab onto me to keep them from falling lol. I love my Aunty Time with my niece as she is literally my twin born through my sister. She was nervous at first but pushed through it and before the end of the night, she was off the wall, in the middle of the rink trying to complete turns. I can't wait to take her skating again and have some more great Girl Time :) read more

This rink has seen some better times. Nowadays, it seems like the only thing they care is to get as much money out of parents of figure skaters without actually providing much of service. There are very few quality coaches left, so there is no guarantee that your kid will get a good coach for the group class. It's a shame. read more
