Good: Quick appointment and turnaround for install. I got my front shocks replaced with Hayes and they got it all done within 3-4 days. Communicative and friendly as well. Bad: Overcharged me severely on parts. Got two rancho shocks, invoice said they were an RS999935 strut and RS999911 shock. You can buy these on amazon for $226 and $220 respectively. Was charged on my invoice for $504 each! Called to ask about how these were charged double the list price to see if it was a mistake. I was told I get the warranty, they're a certified installer, but they also needed to make "a little bit of money on their end", even though they're already charging me $500ish for install. Ended up costing me about $1600 between install and parts. I would rather do this myself in the future and risk using a spring compressor than coming back to these guys. I'm not coming back for any future work I need. read more

I went to Hayes for an alignment on the recommendation of my tire store. Unfortunately, I wish I hadn't. Upon taking my vehicle to Hayes I was told I needed to replace a lower control arm bushing before the alignment could take place. So I approved the extra work. The $150 alignment is now $600. When I went to pick up my vehicle after they said the work was complete they weren't initially planning to give me the alignment report. After requesting it I notice that the camber on 3 out of 4 wheels was still not correct. When I asked them they said those were not adjustable but then went on to explain they could add aftermarket adjustments for and additional 400-500. I called my regular mechanic in Boulder and discovered this is a common issue with many cars, not just mine and that a competent alignment shop should have known. My mechanic quoted me $130 for parts and labor. I spent $600 and my wheels are still not aligned properly for the new tires I'm installing. It's too bad when a first time customer ends up having a negative experience like this and the business doesn't care to do anything to help resolve the issue. Hayes over charges and under delivers. I do not recommend this shop and will not be returning. read more

My husband took our van to a yahoo in Mead He was to fix air conditioner, our heater worked perfect, coming to get colder wanting a warm van, we'll we had no heat. We took it to the Yahoo he said he did nothing to it, and wanted to charge more. He couldn't even stand up to his work. I called Nick he got it in. We thought it was fixed but unfortunately she wasn't that Go Go Green Machine had other issues. Thanks to Nick and his team had some hiccup, but got her going for my birthday. RESPONSE: We were out of pocket $800. We contacted Hayes with the wheel and insurance documentation and met with them. While Hayes reimbursed us for $200, they did not cover our costs nor our time (round-trip to Grand Junction to pick up the car). Finally, no wheel should ever fall off a car while driving down a highway - period. It's pretty terrifying. read more

It has literally taken me years to find an outstanding auto repair shop, but last year I finally discovered one. I don't give a 5 star rating very often, but these guys earned it. Here's why: HONESTY: their estimates are always on the low side, but the work is always top notch. When they discover additional issues when performing a repair, they are honest about how bad the problem is. Many times they will tell me the fix doesn't have to be immediate. Other repair shops I have used made the repair sound like a matter of life and death if it wasn't fixed immediately. I took the car to Hayes for a second opinion, and they assured me the problem was far from catastrophic, 4 months later I had Hayes fix it. The first repair shop tried to scare me into an $800.00 repair. Hayes charged $625.00 including an oil change! PROFESSIONALISM: they only hire very experienced, reliable mechanics who patiently describe the work they did or will do, so I have a basic understanding of the problem. The same is true for the guys behind the front desk. THE VIBE: the entire staff is genuinely nice. No attitudes whatsoever, just very down to earth people. If you're not happy with your current repair shop, I hope you consider giving Hayes Automotive a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've been a customer of Hayes Automotive since 2008. In that time, I've had them work on my '89 Cherokee, my '87 Bronco, my '97 Escort, and, as a tow truck driver, had referred many other customers to them. Last night, I was driving my '79 G30 Mobile Traveler that I recently bought to Boulder to show it off to a buddy of mine and it overheated on HWY 119. I had it towed back to Hayes by Reliable Towing (review soon to come) and dropped there overnight. Since I had no way to get home at the time, I needed to be there in the morning to fill out the paperwork to get it fixed, and I work in Longmont anyway, I decided to just sleep in my RV. As I was filling out the drop box envelope in the morning before they opened for business, the manager came outside and told me that "we're not the shop for you", and that I should "find another shop" - after telling me that they could do the work and have it done by Friday. Even better, he had called the police on me, apparently for not looking like I have enough money. They showed up, apologized for the manager's behavior, and said "that's messed up, sorry you had to deal with that", then left. To treat anyone, especially a return customer, like that is inexcusable. I went to Hayes whenever I needed a mechanic for six years, and then got treated like dog crap on the bottom of the manager's shoe to be scraped off - turned away, money in hand, because I appeared poor. I had to drive my RV to another shop with no coolant in my engine and risk cracking my block after having paid $244 to get towed to their shop. read more

I recently bought a used car and didn't really get to test drive it at high speeds. So when I finally did I found that the CAR GOT SUPPER SHAKY when it reached 60mph especially coming from the steering wheel. When I brought it in, Mike said it was most likely the TIRES, he came out looked at them and was able to see that two of them were pretty worn out and needed replacing, he put in the tire order, I returned later that day and all together took about an hr. Through the whole process they stayed very PROFESSIONAL and HELPFUL. As far as PRICE goes, I think it was about $85 per tire plus labor so overall pretty reasonable. I was really excited to see if the shaking problem was gone when going high speeds, and sure enough I got up to 65 and the shaking was gone, so I'm a happy camper! I will most likely return if future car problems arise...hopefully not though! read more

My Jetta was misfiring and I tried working on it, in the process erased the codes (had noted all the codes). Problem was basically, intermittent misfires and car would come to sudden stop. After diagnosis heard back from them that it was the spark plug wire issue, got it done for ~$400. 2 days later i get the same issue of misfires and sudden stop. I go there and the owner 'Dave' says: we have have the codes this time, but will be $110 for diagnosis. I was like you did that 2 days back and you miserably failed at it. He was not willing to get it done for free even after 15 minute of argument. After 30 min i get a call that he would do it for free. If i had to argue so much for 100 bucks, getting anything done here was money down the drain! Went to Automotive EMT (19th & Main) on a recommendation and that guy did his diagnosis and was good enough to admit that he couldn't find anything wrong and wouldn't charge a penny! Finally had to replace the ignition coil pack which had cracks on it. Now it works like a champ. Work done is not good at all. Ignition coil pack had tread marks on it, which could have been source of misfire, if i hadn't had the other crack on it! These tread marks definitely were caused during removal of spark plug wires since that was a factory fit one. Dunno whether there was any need to get that spark plug wires replaced in the first place. CAN'T TRUST THESE GUYS AT ALL! read more

I am a true believer in customer service and how a business treats its customers and future customers. I literally broke down in front of their shop. Being a graduate student with very little money, I wanted to get the best deal I could. I called a few places. I then heard what seemed to be a manager/owner talking to the front office staff about my situation. Being friendly, I told them my financial situation and asked a few friendly questions. The man then stated "IT IS NOT OUR FAULT THAT YOU ARE IN COLLEGE". I agreed that it was not their fault and that I never eluded to the fact that it was their fault for me furthering my education. I then waited for the tow truck to pick up my car. I waited for my ride outside in the cold because I did not feel welcome to wait inside their office. read more

I found a local repair shop that I can trust! I had them perform a safety inspection due to a much longer commute I start next week. I was impressed that, unlike another local repair shop in town, Hayes Automotive did not charge me for inspection but just for the services performed. Went in recently to get my car diagnosed, they just diagnosed the engine codes, not was was actually wrong with my vehicle (not starting). To fix the engine codes, it was going to set me back $1600, to which I found that the parts were marked up 3x the price. They also recommended that I replace my fuel injectors since fixing the "problem" would end up breaking them, which were quoted for parts at $600. No thanks. read more

Don't ever take your vehicle here. I wanted the spark plugs changed, new wires put on and told them it was starting to crank a little longer. They told me my battery was weak and that was the problem. They sold me a battery for $255.50 and that DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. They did not change the plugs or wires as I asked. I called numerous times and they still won't make it right. Please avoid this place---it is a total rip off. read more

We took our car in because the engine was running rough. They came up with $2000 worth of work that needed to be done. We decided not to go ahead, but paid for the diagnostic. Looking over the diagnostic report and estimate, we saw the exact problem, one ignition coil wasn't firing. Replaced the part ourselves for $85, and the car is running fine. These guys just wanted to scare us out of our money instead of being honest about what needed to be fixed. read more

I am a very patient and tolerant person but as a result of today's interaction - with the actual owner - and subsequent experience, I can't remain silent. Hayes Automotive does alot of service for many shops around town for their customers for alignments and other miscellaneous needs but I don't think Dave Hayes is worthy for any further money from you or indy shops around town ..... and I'll share why I have such conclusion. Quick back story. I had front end work done and my mechanic had sent my vehicle for its alignment. It was dropped off at Hayes at 9.30 after my work was performed and was relayed that it would be ready at 11.00 AM. In short, it wasn't even on the rack until 3.30 PM - meanwhile, I had numerous appointments which I had to cancel and lost business due the inability of not having my vehicle. It wasn't until 5PM when my car was finally ready, after spending the whole day for a simple alignment!!! So, here I am today, needing an alignment check because my car has a pull. Naturally, I take it back to the place who did it in the first place to double check my car. At the beginning of the week I made an appointment for 10 AM 12/19; which I checked in my vehicle at 9.30 and was told by the front desk my car will be done by 11.00 AM. 11.40 rolls around and my vehicle is still in the parking lot awaiting its turn ... all the while Dave Hayes had been trying to align another customer's truck (since 8-830AM). The other customer was also annoyed that he had been waiting 3 hours for his vehicle .... only to be informed that it couldn't be aligned because it was claimed a ball joint was bad and they wouldn't be able to do anything about it (... it became obvious Dave was trying to poach business on work which wasn't needed). Needless to say, that person wasn't happy wasting 3 hours. When I expressed my unhappiness that I have been waiting for 2 hours for my car to be pulled in and and asked when it would be done; that is when Dave lost it and started to verbally assault me!! I have never had a business owner drop the f-bomb infront of, and directed at their customers, let alone infront of employees,and other customers; but he also exclaimed that I was inappropriate and unreasonable both asking when my car would be done and expecting it done by when I was told it was going to be done. It quickly deteriorated further from there and when I reminded him that I was there because they did the alignment via my mechanic, his reaction was stating :why should (he) give a s*** about (his) competitors' customer's cars - well, Dave - your customer IS, in fact, the other mechanic, and YOU should care about them as they are your bread and butter too - and don't talk behind their back in the process!!! My car was never worked on, Dave hastily handed me my keys and told me, verbatum to f-off and don't ever come back. - Rest assured I will never be back! Its obvious that Dave Hayes does not care for his business nor how his customer are treated and comes across as maniacal when casually addressed about when work will be performed. Unprofessional is an understatement. I know he recently lost some great staff as well as the lead tech and it shows that his business may be subsequently suffering ... and he is taking the frustration out on customers. So, save your money, time and do yourself a favor - don't bother with Hayes Automotive. I don't know what has happened to this once excellent place but it is not the same the same as it once was. Sad. There is no excuse for such behavior. read more

absolutely horrible! My land rover died and we had it towed to Hayes Automotive. The next day they called and told me that they did the diagnostic test on it (quoted me $155 just for that). They said it was the drive shaft and it would cost $1380+ to fix it. Quoted me $1000 just for the part. My husband looked on line and found that they are $250 new. He went to their shop and they gave him the ole hee haw. (oh well, it has a 2 yr warranty etc. etc...) He ended up paying $55 for the diagnostic test . We ended up towing it to Dan's Automotive. We have a brand new drive shaft and with labor it was a total of $500. I am so sick and tired of automotive shops trying to screw women, just because they are a woman. Honestly the worst shop I've ever dealt with, but I was in a pinch and they were able to get me in quick. Now I know why.. I'd originally called them up telling them I needed a full mechanical diagnostic done on my car. I'd let regular maintenance go and knew I was going to need a lot of work done on my car and just needed a checklist to work from. I drop off my car, tell them all the issues and noises I'd been experiencing. They call me back and tell me I needed new tires and rims and they wanted to put them on right away. I told them I knew that and would be working on that, but I was more concerned with the mechanical as I already have a tire shop. They told me they didn't know and would need to keep my car an additional night. $1200 later they replace my spark plugs and my belts. They again tell me they recommend tires and on the invoice it recommended a new air filter although no one had ever spoken to me about replacing it. A week later, I'd replaced the tires and wheels but was still having the same issues. Took it to a mechanic who then told me that my sub frame was bent and that the new tires I'd just bought because they said I needed them were going to be chewed up within a month. I also needed a new fuel pump (my car could've blown up in the meantime. Thanks for that) and a new water pump.. overall worst service ever at an automotive shop. read more

Chris a manager at the shop was not willing to stand behind $970.94 of their work that should be under warranty - a catalytic converter they installed less than 2 years ago (less than 6,000 miles). They offered to charge me an additional $205.56 to test the parts they installed that very clearly (according to the emissions test) failed miserably years too soon. I have never been treated so poorly by a shop or a manager. Don't be fooled by some of their 5 star reviews!! These people must have been paid off, there is no way I can recommend this shop or its staff based on the way I was just treated by a manager. read more

Horrible service. My car broke down there a few months ago and I usually go with Discount Auto. I went in and asked if Discount Auto could come pick it up, put it on a trailer, and work on it at their place. 2 of the employees were very upset on this request and told me that I had to push the car off the lot if I wanted a different auto mechanic to work on it! If this is how they treat people in a tough spot, NO THANK YOU. I can only imagine the HORRIBLE service I would have gotten if I chose to have my car worked on there. read more

The misdiagnosed the problem with my 2002 Forester twice costing me nearly $5,000 when the actual problem turned out to be only $700. My Subaru was "slipping" when starting out in first gear they said it was the clutch which made sense so we replace it for $1,350. Less that two weeks later, the same problem recurred. This time they said it was the viscous coupler which is part of the transmission and it was $3,300. At this point I was really frustrated because the car is only worth $5,000 so had they diagnosed it correctly the first time I would have scrapped the car, but now I had a nifty new clutch and now what to do? The said everything else on the car was in good shape and it would probably be worth fixing it. So I paid the money and got it fixed. Four days later, the problem was back exactly as it had been. I went back, pretty angry to say the least and spoke directly with David Hayes, the owner. He said it must be a problem with the transmission work and he would take care of it. He got me a rental as well. At this point I thought, ok, things happen and he is taking care of it. I got a call earlier than I thought saying the car was fixed and that the problem was the rear differential that was missing a pin and my bill was $700. Seriously? I never authorized them to spend any more money. I went to the shop and talked with David again. He said that sometimes diagnosing these problems are tricky, they deal with over 180 models of cars. My response was, isn't that your job? He said the problem turned out to be the drive train was slipping out of the rear differential, how they missed that when the pulled the entire transmission I do not know. A bit later I found out that Hayes also failed to tell me that my car had aftermarket headers on it and they will burn up the catalytic converters that Hayes installed for $900. Replacing the header was only $200. At this point the warning light for the catalytic converters has gone out, but certainly not due to any advice from Hayes, I feel that they would have gladly replaced them for another $900. I seriously considered small claims court for all of this but in the end decided I didn't want the fight which was probably what Mr. Hayes was hoping. This post is the least I can do to hope that others don't make the same mistake I did. I would look elsewhere for service on your car. read more
