A few days before my visit to Automotive Authorities I had my car worked on by another mechanic in…read moreLongmont. We had taken our car to the other company after a critter ran under it, and we noticed liquid leaking down one of our rear tires. This was our only sign that there was an issue with our car. That company did over $2800 worth of work to repair the leak. Just before we were scheduled to pick up the car, they discovered noises on their test drive and believed the differential also had problems for an additional cost of around $1800. If so, this problem is one that rarely occurs in this model. Even though I told them there were no noises prior to me dropping off the vehicle, it was just the critter that indirectly made us aware of the problem, I was told we must have missed it. I declined to do the additional work, even though I was warned that the car could lock up the back wheels while driving and cause an accident. When I went to pick it up, the lug nut key was in my cup holder and the jack area was open. As I drove the car home, there was definitely a new noise. My husband noticed that the way the jack parts area was arranged was likely causing the sound. He was right. However, I wasn't sure that there still wasn't an issue with the differential. I reached out to Automotive Authorities and explained my dilemma. We had already spent a fortune and were pretty confident it was the jack parts that caused the noise. However, I was afraid to drive the car because we weren't sure. They completely understood and determined that things looked good with the differential. Their evaluation didn't take too long, but I was surprised that he didn't charge me. I had already felt like I probably spent $800 needlessly at the other place, so this was greatly appreciated. My experience with Automotive Authorities was excellent! They could have easily said the differential needed repairs. A repair that is almost $2000! They were honest and told me what to look for in the unlikely event the differential might have problems in the near future. If you are looking for a place you can trust for help with your car, this is it!

Got it back after a few short days and will be getting some further work done as time goes on. This truck had belonged to my former landlord whereupon his daughter sold it to me as the old boy had gone to a retirement facility. In his later years maintenance and repairs had been let go but being sturdy and strong running, I bought it and am slowly bringing it up to snuff and it is good in the event I should need to do any long distance traveling with it. . Attended the new shop opening, located just off I-25 and Colorado route 66, where I met Mr. Maggio's family and some of the other customers who call Hands On Autotech their home for vehicle repair and servicing. I first went there based on the recommendation of the Martino troubleshooter show on 630 KHOW AM radio; 10 AM - 2PM, M-F. My opinion is that Tom's shop takes something of a scientific approach to vehicle repair and will go more in depth with an analyses than another shop I had been to for an issue with my '99 Tahoe. As an EV owner himself I gather that Tom is up on the current tech, perhaps more than some other places who would have men of my age (68) from the "dinosaur era" of automotive tech working at their shops.

There was a problem with the communication surrounding the tow transfer so I started my experience with Hands on Auto Tech with some trepidation. Tom handled the situation and we moved onto the real problem with my truck. The diagnosis was the clutch so I approved the repair and waited a few days for the parts to arrive and the repair to proceed. After the clutch was replaced another problem with the operation of the clutch was discovered so I agreed to the additional repair and another day for repair. After a week I was reunited with my truck. The repair was costly, lengthy and unexpected but coming out the other side of this experience I learned a couple of lessons. 1. If you have your vehicle towed to a shop follow the tow truck to the shop and verify the transfer. 2. Communication and follow up throughout the repair are key Tom was great to deal with and I feel that he was honest with me about the repairs needed and the cost of those repairs. Having recently moved to the area I feel my vehicle maintenance and repair needs can be checked off the list. I can recommend Hands on Auto Tech to anyone needing an honest repair facility and Tom as a good guy to deal with.

Colt said at minimum he could have it rebuilt for a lot less, but he asked if I would bring it in for a diagnosis because that the previous one did not sound right - and he would inspect it for free. I obliged and brought my car in. He put it on the rack and said that without a doubt the driveline did not need replaced and that it was in perfect shape. He thought it may be a heat shield or something like that that is rattling - even drove it around a little bit. He asked that I bring it in some time and they could take the shield off and see if the rattling stopped (it was not easy to reproduce) - he also asked that I take a video and get more specifics on the why it started rattling and let him know. I thanked him and cancelled the $850 fix from the other mechanic. I was on my way home and decided to drive it a while longer to see if I could get her car to reproduce it, it did. I recorded it and drove straight back. He listened to the video and was still confused. He asked if we could go for a ride to see if we could get it to reproduce. We drove down 119 and just when we were ready to give up it made a brief sound. He asked if I could pull over and saw that the muffler bracket was rubbing on the trailer hitch. He told me I could easily move the hitch and fix it. When I dropped him off he told me to pull it up and grabbed a grinder and fixed it real quick. When I asked him how much (he had spent quite a bit of time messing with it) - he said "Nothing, just bring it in when you have a real problem" and sent me on my way. I dropped off a case of beer for and rushed home to leave him a glowing review because he was determined to resolve the issue and gave me and my car attention without even thinking of charging me - he was more concerned with fixing the issue. TLDR; Colt and his team are amazing and they actually care about you and your car. While I hope I don't have more car troubles in the future, I know where I'm going if they happen.
