So basically when my authorized dealer told me that they need to change the whole seat for 5000$ (for 2022) brand new car. went without any expectations and explained the problem to the guy. he told me to give me one hour to look and boom one hour later, problem fixed. and the charge was only the labor. my dealer charged me 100 dollar just for inspecting the problem. Colt is the bomb! I once owned the 4RUNNER you see in the photo and couldn't have gotten more lucky in meeting Colt through a mutual friend. His extensive knowledge and background specifically on 4RUNNERs took me and my baby far. Colt always knew what was wrong through description, almost immediately. He took care of my car over the past 5 years & I couldn't ask for a better more professional & affordable mechanic. After I suspected the mechanic my wife brought her car to was incorrect in his assessment, I ended up in a round about way talking to Colt Knott about the driveline that I was told needed replaced. Colt said at minimum he could have it rebuilt for a lot less, but he asked if I would bring it in for a diagnosis because that the previous one did not sound right - and he would inspect it for free. I obliged and brought my car in. He put it on the rack and said that without a doubt the driveline did not need replaced and that it was in perfect shape. He thought it may be a heat shield or something like that that is rattling - even drove it around a little bit. He asked that I bring it in some time and they could take the shield off and see if the rattling stopped (it was not easy to reproduce) - he also asked that I take a video and get more specifics on the why it started rattling and let him know. I thanked him and cancelled the $850 fix from the other mechanic. I was on my way home and decided to drive it a while longer to see if I could get her car to reproduce it, it did. I recorded it and drove straight back. He listened to the video and was still confused. He asked if we could go for a ride to see if we could get it to reproduce. We drove down 119 and just when we were ready to give up it made a brief sound. He asked if I could pull over and saw that the muffler bracket was rubbing on the trailer hitch. He told me I could easily move the hitch and fix it. When I dropped him off he told me to pull it up and grabbed a grinder and fixed it real quick. When I asked him how much (he had spent quite a bit of time messing with it) - he said "Nothing, just bring it in when you have a real problem" and sent me on my way. I dropped off a case of beer for and rushed home to leave him a glowing review because he was determined to resolve the issue and gave me and my car attention without even thinking of charging me - he was more concerned with fixing the issue. TLDR; Colt and his team are amazing and they actually care about you and your car. While I hope I don't have more car troubles in the future, I know where I'm going if they happen. read more

As a young woman, I have had many issues with mechanics. It's extremely difficult to find a mechanic that I can trust. I am so happy and thankful that my sister suggested I go to Knott's. They have made multiple repairs on my car, and I have zero complaints. Every time I call in, my car gets looked at in the same week, if not the next day. We first went to Knott's for a pre-purchase inspection for a truck we were considering buying. The guys squeezed us in on a short notice on a Friday afternoon (which we greatly appreciated) and gave us a short list of repairs needed as well as their overall opinion on the vehicle. Their input helped us make a wise decision regarding the purchase. The shop is clean, and the staff is very very friendly. I really appreciated that about them. I loved the Bible verse decor on the walls -- as I always appreciate a business who isn't afraid to share their faith. So thank you Colt :) We live in Fort Collins, but will be making Knotts our new automotive shop for any future repairs. They are TRUSTWORTHY and the costs are fair and reasonable. read more

I was in Longmont purchasing a used vehicle and contacted Knott's for a pre-purchase inspection. Not only did Colt get me in right away, he personally did the inspection while I waited, walked me through the results and gave me a very reasonable estimate. Technical details to show their quality: I knew the vehicle was low on oil. He pinpointed the leak at the drain seal - an easy fix at the next oil change. He found two other minor problems (power steering hose and transmission axle shaft seal) and let me know their relative importance and cost to fix. This USED to be a great place. But those days are LONG gone. Did my clutch in 2017. Had to have them do it again in 2021. Eighteen months later, my clutch was done YET AGAIN (by another party.) The last party explained and SHOWED me in detail all the steps that Knott's skipped or just plainly ignored. I had to have ALL their work redone, this time by someone competant and was able to take the time to figure out all the things they did WRONG. When I called to talk to the new owner and explain to him the situation, (including that NO decent auto repair would have ANYTHING to do with their 'warranty insurance company'..... hmmmm? I wonder why?) ..... and when I politely explained this, I got SCREAMED at by the new owner. (I suspect this isn't he first nor the last time he has heard his clients issues re: this suspicious warranty insurance company.) So, even though my clutch should never EVER have "gone out" in five years (with very low miles)..... and even though I should have not been forced to pay for a second clutch, and even though my second clutch was "under warranty" I STILL had to pay for a third clutch. Now it works. Thanks, Knott's automotive. You RIPPED ME OFF for TWO CLUTCH JOBS! I'm out nearly $3K for your f-ing stupidity. Way to go. read more

Knott's has become the sole mechanic for all of the vehicles in our family. They are always honest and fair. They have done both small and large repairs, and always explain what they are doing and why, and stand behind their work. Recently, another local mechanic told me I needed a somewhat costly replacement in my emissions system, and this didn't seem correct to me. I took it to Knott's for a second opinion, and Colt repaired the malfunctioning part quickly and efficiently. He then explained what and why the other mechanic had recommended, and further explained why it just wasn't necessary (ie... price gouging!) Earlier this year, Colt even was honest to the point of telling me that a very old vehicle just wasn't worth the required repair. He could easily have made a profitable repair on a vehicle which had little life left in it, but he was honest with me. This kind of honesty is rare! read more

Therefore, I really appreciate local businesses that also pride themselves in customer service while working to exceed customer expectations. That is exactly what I have found in Knott's Auto Tech. Living an hour away from my 76 year old Mother, it has been a blessing to find such an honest and friendly shop that I can trust to service her vehicle. Knowing that she is on a fixed income and has zero knowledge about auto repair, they have gone out of their way to help, providing extra care and even services that any other company would have charged for. Our first experience: After a breakdown, Knott's diagnosed and replaced a bad water pump in my Mother's Chrysler Cirrus; not only at a cost below other quotes, but in a friendly and timely manner. During the process they made my Mother feel like family. Several weeks later her car broke down again at a local grocery store. Although the issue was not directly related to the work performed, the owner (Colt) paid to have the vehicle towed to his shop and did the repair at no cost. Both Mindy and Clot have been a pleasure to work with. It would be difficult for me to think a another small business in any service industry that I could recommend more highly than Knott's. DON'T use anyone but Knott's Auto Tech in Longmont, Colorado for your car or truck repair! I found myself in an interesting situation recently. I found a used truck in Colorado that I was interested in purchasing but living in Arizona, I needed someone I could trust to look it over and give me an estimate for repair. At Knotts Auto Tech, I found the owner, Colt to be very professional, extremely thorough, willing to discuss in detail what needed to be done to make the truck safe. The repairs were related to the steering column, shocks etc. His associate Zach was very patient with me and gave the financial breakdown. It was well over $2000, but I felt comfortable having them do the work before I shipped the truck to my home in Arizona. Honestly as a woman, I have been taken with auto repair but Knott's Auto Tech is honest and dependable.The truck is a 1999 Dodge 2500 diesel and purrs like a kitten and runs like a new 50,000 truck. I was referred to Knott's by my son after Nissan told me that I had an engine bolt missing and it would cost me about 300.00 to replace it (1 bolt). I took my 2008 Altima with a 141,000 miles to Knott's for a second opinion. Called and Colt got me in the same day to looked at my car. Lo and behold there was NO ENGINE BOLT(S) MISSING as diagnosed by Nissan and my car was in excellent shape. The engine was fine. I also had my oil and brake fluid changed that day and it was much cheaper than Nissan. This place is BUSY!!!! Zach does a fantastic job taking care of the front desk, answering every phone call and addressing every customer that walks in the door with a smile. I agree with all the great reviews here on YELP. I have been bringing my cars for service to Colt for years, I'm happy to see he has opened his own shop and I can now take my cars directly to him! I just got my car back from replacing the valves, refreshing the heads, head gaskets, clutch. Now it runs better then when I bought it. Colt and his team where fair and upfront with the pricing, and provided multiple options on how to fix my car when it came in with a burnt valve. They kept me informed on the status of my car during the time they had it. I drive from Broomfield to get my car done here because I trust that my car will be done right.
