During my first visit this season, I noticed that the ladies room had been moved to the corner, and enlarged with a separate changing room space that isn't padded to protect any ice skates on your feet. I also noticed that they didn't zamboni the ice that public skate time. Public skating begins 11/29/19, ends 3/1/20 Public skating hours Saturday & Sunday: 2pm - 3:50pm Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 12pm - 1:50pm Wednesday: public stick time 12pm - 1:50pm

The only pro of this establishment is that there is free-of-charge public skating. The rentals are…read morealso decently cheap, $7 for figure skates & $8 for hockey skates I believe. Aside from that, there really isn't anything special. The second I got onto the ice, I was bombarded by about 25 little kids who consistently kept falling right in front of my skates. Keep in mind, this wasn't as hazardous as it could've been because I was only able to go about 2 mph on my skates as each square-foot was covered by an ice skater. I felt like I was playing dodgeball. By no means was this the fault of the kids, because everyone learns to skate at some point and it was actually quite cute seeing them learn. However, the public skating hours are very limited (2 hours per weekend day) + (the fact that it's free). Everybody is gonna sprint there! This isn't ideal, practice, or physically safe. There was absolutely no room to skate freely. Also, the rental hockey skates I got were very weird, the blade was not centered correctly and it seemed like it needed some sharpening.

They were able to accommodate me which was great, and I paid my fee and got the paperwork filled out. (The paperwork was 100% as if I was a parent filling it out for my child. Kind of weird, but not the worst so I just moved on). When I showed up (maybe 10 mins early), there was no one there to greet me. The whole place was full of kids and I didn't see any adults, so I started to worry that I showed up on the wrong day or time, but once the class time officially started, I saw a group of people who were warming up on trampolines. Since I wasn't greeted and there wasn't anyone who was clearly in charge, I assumed class started. I interrupted two people who looked like they may work there, and they said the class had started - and I could go join the others. They gave me some simple instructions on how to warm up and then I was on my own. The class itself was most enjoyable because of the other attendees. They realized that I wasn't sure what to do and they helped me figure things out. The coach was less helpful and I felt very out of place- she never introduced herself to me, or to the other members of the class. I did pay $40 for the class, so I expected at least a greeting and maybe a little bit of guidance on how to work my way into things. The class does have a lot of different workouts and combination of floor exercise and bars, balance beam, etc. so I did feel like I had a decent workout and learned a little bit about gymnastics. Personally, I felt that the experience was fine, but I wasn't overly impressed with my first time, so I decided it wouldn't be a fit for a regular weekly class.

The place got packed with kids and it was a bit difficult to maneuver around them all and stay out of the way of everyone moving really fast. They played top 40 music during the short 2-3:30pm timeframe. It was fun but the difficult hours of public skating probably causes the populous atmosphere on the ice which makes it more difficult to skate around. I'd go again because it is close and cheap.

The teacher was very friendly and she knew how to teach. A big plus was that you didn't have to own your own rollerblades to take the lessons: the instructor can rent them to you if you tell her your size ahead of time. (That way you can take lessons before deciding if you actually want to buy rollerblades.) Check out their website www.4wheelsinline.com for more information.

The coach had my 11-year-old kid do a whole lot of swings on the uneven bars. He got blisters, and…read morewas made to continue to the point of them bursting and having raw palms. Then the coach ripped the loose skin off of him. It's two days later and he's still having trouble writing. It's bad. I emailed him as a courtesy saying that this was the reason we were discontinuing lessons, and he replied, "Unfortunately gymnastics is a rough sport... Competitive gymnastics is not for everyone." Which doesn't even make sense from a pragmatic sense because he's too hurt to train. He blamed by kid for not being tough enough to take his abuse. Does the coach ripping off a piece of your skin have to be part of competitive gymnastics? According to Beyond Gymnastics: yes. This is certainly the worst incident we've had here, but I'm not totally surprised it came to this. I should have pulled my kid sooner. The culture here is toxic.

My daughter has trained at Beyond and previously, Brestyan's for the past 5 years. She has excelled…read moreas a gymnast, placing in the top three at states and other meets every year. More importantly to me however, is how much she has gained in confidence, social/emotional maturity, work ethic, discipline, and sportsmanship. These are the reasons we continue to commit to this sport and this gym in particular. Juston and Jackie have envisioned a gym where athletic excellence is achieved in a nurturing environment. Juston is tough, precise, and challenges the girls to reach their potential. He has earned their respect. They don't want to disappoint him because they know he genuinely cares for their well being in addition to meet performance. This is his expectation for all coaches in the gym. At Beyond, we are a family. Just like any family, we are not perfect. Sometimes we don't communicate as often or as well as we should. But we work through those challenges together with kindness and consideration. The girls on my daughter's team are the closest of friends. For real. No one is left out. They celebrate every meet and birthday together and cheer each other on in the most supportive ways. Older athletes look out for their "little sisters". On any given day, if you visit a practice you will see our girls, rec and team, at all levels doing very hard work with all the joy and laughter a healthy childhood should have. Lastly, I believe parent culture can make or break a gym. Yes, we are competitive and close at the same time. We have a tight bond that is also inclusive and welcoming to newcomers. We spend so many hours watching our kids together and I couldn't be more grateful for the culture we have created.
