I love this little store they have an assortment of hardware/plumbing supplies to take care of all of your needs way beyond the typical Home Depot or Lowe's there service with windows screens was great they had all 11 screens ready on time one screen was incorrectly cut but they proceeded to fix it with no issues that facts that they cut glass as well here is really neat for such a small store and I was pleased with the pricing and all the staff was helpful. read more

I can tell you one thing guys. You can buy there gaskets, small o-rings and stuff by pieces. And you don't have to get the whole kit, like it is in Home Depot. Last time I was there we bought a stem for a faucet and a water valve. We were helped by a person, his name is Ed. He answered us simply and clearly. I'm a believer of patronizing the "mom and pop" stores in these times of big box stores and the convenience of the internet but charging more than 2x for threaded plastic pipe for sprinklers is a little much. 1/2" x 10" pipe @ HH: $3.19 1/2" x 12" pipe @ BB: $1.52 I understand that they're going to be a little bit pricier and I enjoy their knowledge when I have questions but I can't. read more

The reasoning that I am giving Hawthorne true hardware store. We've been having a lot of bad weather, rain and wind well a few weeks ago when the wind was blowing so bad it blew a mess of my screen door so I decide I will try to fix it myself took my cell phone and took a few pictures and went to the hardware store in a gentleman by the name of Michiel help me the very nice man he's been in that store in Harthorne community for many years he told me what to do gave me what I needed and send me on my way. I repaired the screen better when the first two gentlemen called them self putting it up from the beginning wow! I was so proud of myself. Yes, some of the inventory is a little dusty and some things are missing. No, someone won't greet you at the door and say welcome. They weren't sent to "Home Depot Customer Training Class". However, if you engage them, they WILL help you. If you look around the store and remember what they have and don't have, you can avoid a crowded large store and even find a parking spot a few feet away. Don't complain about what Hawthorne Hardware ISN'T. I needed a gate opener remote. I have seen that they have universal ones on display. I knew exactly which one I needed. They close at 5:30pm Friday's and I got their at 5:25pm I thought I made it! They had already closed the doors. I was trying to make signs to the short guy with glasses but he just kept saying ""closed" with his hands. My gate was not opening and I couldn't get in my driveway. My son and I had to jump the gate. This is not the first time that I noticed their bad attitude, even the girl on the register. I use that store as my last resort now. I only go their if I absolutely have to. Their attitude is always bad. They act as if they are doing us a favor for shopping in their store. So keep in mind that they close at 5:25pm. Not 5:30pm. And be prepared for old man with glasses giving you bad customer service and register girl as well. read more

I stumbled on this place as I was driving to the freeway and it reminded me that I needed tools for my apartment. I walk in and get greeted by a worker. The person working there directs me to what I'm looking for. Paid for my goods and i was on my way. They pretty much have everything you need at cheaper prices then home depot. I happened on this place while looking for some 3/16 ID clear plastic tubing, I came out with an 8 inch glass light fixture cover! lol Completely random find! Having never been here I was struck by all the old items like screw in fusses, the light fixture covers, old pop in circuit breakers... And completely random people working the place, diverse to say the least! Parking can be had in small lot next to it or take you chance with street parking, there are plenty of parking spaces in Hawthorne's quirky boulevard lots. Prices are a bit higher on more common items than your Home Depots but they do offer different brands, and some rare items. Happy hunting! read more

I came here because I needed a tap to fix my stripped bolt hole. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by an employee who was very nice. He showed me what size I needed and asked how badly it was stripped. He seemed very knowledgeable too at hardware. I ended up getting some key chain garage remote control as well since I heard the prices were pretty cheap compared to others. It works like a charm and opens garage doors all the time! This is a great mom and pop hardware store. All their stuff are reasonably priced, and they have great customer service. If they don't have what you want, they can order just about anything, which you can't do at places like Home Depot. Get garage remote controls, new screens, screen doors, glass doors, get keys copied, and buy nails in single quantities. Lots of parking space is a plus. I'll def be back for home goods! read more

Please be advised that I have tried several times , on different days,to pay for items at the counter and the black cashier has turned and walked away each time. I have no explanation for this behaviour. I have never had more than a few words with this person so whatever is illiciting this lack of professional courtesy is beyond my grasp. Today there were three workers at the front desk when I went to pay. The young latino man had been very courteous and friendly but apparently does not work the register. The young Latino woman apparently helping at the register never looked up from reading her paper to assist us. I understand how over time employee loyalty can become an entrenched standard but there are times when professional integrity must win out and people need to be fired. I stopped here Saturday on the advice of a locksmith - I was looking for a new gate transmitter remote control. I showed them the one I had that wasn't working. They then tried to pop open the dipswitch/battery part, which took them a decent amount of time - my remote has the scars to prove it. They told me after they achieved success in opening it that since it was the weekend most of their remote controls were locked up in the office and I'd have to come back during the week. I asked them if they could even help me identify what I needed to buy so they pulled out the catalog and started thumbing through models and trying to compare mine. They couldn't match mine, and so took my name and number and said she'd call me on Monday when the office would be open - more trouble taking my phone number and name down. I was then proceeded to be told that maybe I should just replace the battery. Thanks, really. Regardless of whether there was a new battery in there or not (there was) - you press the button, you see a strong red light. I again ask what kind of remote I should be looking for, or any other suggestion for stores to visit to buy this. Girl says she'll call me Monday and go from there. Thanks for the helpfulness. Monday rolls around, no phone call. I come back in later in the week to give them one more chance, but this time I have the make and model of a remote that I think will work. I find same girl on the phone chattering away w/a friend of hers laughing and joking around. I wait there until she's done and she finally hangs up and snatches the paper I had everything written down on. In the end, I have a working remote no thanks to their lack of knowledge. It is far better than the overpriced hardware store here in El Segundo. The quality of help is all over the map, but some of them are really good. And they can order almost anything. dont waste your time going to home depot at ocean gate when you can come here and get it at 30% less $ and get great help. they sell everything by the piece, not in stupid blister packs of 20. they have a locksmith office on site too. they cut pipe, screen and rope. i never wait more than 5 minutes to shop for all of my stuff. they bought out united hardware around 10 years ago, and didn't raise the prices on the tags. 10 year old prices!!! read more
