On one specific occasion they provided a free jump start when i was stranded. Recently needed repair work on one of my cars. Prior to going to DTR, I went to a dealership service center and another local repair guy in a neighboring town. I was given the typical crazy quotes and unnecessary repair suggestions that would cost me a few thousand dollars. The people that I know in the town of Closter, NJ respect the establishment and through word of mouth I was recommended to give their automotive repair a try. I Met the owner, Pat and he gave me an honest assessment of what was needed and his mechanic took care of everything (including removing and plugging a tire from a nail i didn't know about and they didn't charge me for it). Summary: DTR is honest, reliable and competent. they have roots in the town of Closter and after living in the town for 6 years, I have finally found my automotive "go-to" guy. Great work Pat, extremely grateful for the work done today!

So we all think "If I was a mechanic, I wouldn't hose all these fools that dont know a carburetor…read morefrom a alternator like my mechanic does." But when it comes down to it most people would probably still add a little extra to repairing the cars of the totally clueless. For some reason Jake a Thoroughbreds appears to have taken some secret oath not to do this. This place is amazing. A small shop that doesn't inspire complete confidence from its humble exterior, Jake, the owner, and Mike handle almost all general car repairs. You can bring a car into him almost any time they are open and he will stop what he is doing, immediately take a look at your car and let you know what needs to be done. The idea of charging money or having to wait to find out what is wrong with the car is completely foreign to Jake. Now here comes the best part, if something doesn't need to be repaired or somewhere else will do it for cheaper, Jake will actually tell you that and charge you nothing. I just went into him to have my leaky radiator replaced and when I asked him about also getting new tires he said he would do it but "To be honest Alex, you are probably better off taking it to a place that specializes in tires, they will do it for less money." My mouth nearly hit the ground. It is not that Thoroughbreds is dirt cheap or some amazing free give away. They charge fair prices that are about average for the work they do BUT you will not find a place that has faster service or more genuine mechanics.

I understood and made an appointment to return today at 4 PM, as the tire was only slowly losing air. When I came back as scheduled, I left my car with the expectation that it would be completed within about an hour, as advised. Unfortunately, even after waiting, the service had not yet been started. While I was prepared to accept the quoted price of $46 plus tax for the repair, I did expect that the work would be completed within the promised timeframe. Given the delay and lack of follow-through, I've decided to take my car elsewhere--likely to Norwood BP Gas Station, where I had a similar repair done efficiently for $15 just last month. The staff were courteous and pleasant, which I do appreciate. However, based on this experience, I don't think I would choose to return in the future.
