To be honest, I was sorta shocked that there wasn't a UPS Store in Hilo town…read more Whenever I travel for work, it's not uncommon for me when I fly to the neighbor islands that I pack alot of gear, & parts. After using my parts, I like to ship out the broken parts back to the mainland, that way I can avoid having to haul it back to Oahu. I have used the UPS Store in Kona, but since I was working in Hilo this time, the closest UPS Store was in Pahoa. Located at a small strip mall called "Puna Kai Shopping Center", you can find this little UPS Store just a stones throw from a McDonald's. Lots of free parking at the strip mall, so access is pretty easy. I walked into the store and was greeted right away. The friendly clerk processed my package, & gave me my receipt, and off I went. Although Pahoa is a little drive from Hilo town, at least this UPS Store provided a very valuable service to the Big Island community.

Okay....the brilliant thing is that they were so sweet and helpful in UPS - they gave us all the UPS shipping options and prices which were higher than ideal for us...we also thought about a box to check them with the airline and that wasn't going to work...and then our lovely employee helper came up with the brilliant idea to bubble wrap them, put them in a trash bag and secure that and it could go with us as checked baggage. Would we have thought of that? Maybe. But it would have taken awhile. Could we have done it cheaper by going to Home Depot and buying the supplies? Maybe. Were we right there and the price was right? Definitely. So she let us know she had a couple of other things to get shipped out so it would be about 20-30 minutes. No problem. Went over to the grocery store, got some lunch, ate at the outdoor picnic tables in the center, then went back & it was all ready to go. And shout out to Hawaiian Airlines for it only costing the regular luggage cost of $40 and it arrived in pristine shape at the large roll-up door at Oakland airport. Thank you so much, UPS Pahoa!

During the observation period(s) the KuWaye large fuel tanker trucks came in a close "second worst" in terms of speed law violations. The KuWaye truck driver's, operate their super long fuel tanker trucks with careless and reckless disregard for public safety by excessively speeding while transporting dangerous cargo across the Big Island. This is a condensed report This report is copyright by BigIslandRadar.com 20 We already know that these trucks can be operated safely - we have ridden in three fuel tanker trucks (who's drivers are sympathetic to the Waimea Community - because they live in Waimea). These fuel truck drivers demonstrated to BIR just how easy it is to drive heavy rigs laden with explosive cargo [fuel] down the Kawaihae Road, both safely and quietly. It can be done. The KuWaye drivers do just the opposite. BigIslandRadar.com has observed KuWaye drivers speeding through residential neighborhoods, on secondary roads, and on the highway. It should be noted - catastrophic accidents occur when speeding fuel tanker trucks are involved in a crash with a passenger car, and statistically speaking, fuel truck crashes kill more innocent people than other types of commercial vehicle accidents. They violate the speed laws early in the morning hours [not the only time] when there are no HPD officers on traffic duty.
