ZERO STARS if possible! I applied for a specific dog right away and I met all requirements, I also spoke on the phone with the fosters and they agreed with me coming to meet one of the puppies I was very interested in. I've explained my background on how I am experienced with many dogs, my whole life I was raised with dogs. I'm very active and I have all the time in the world to invest in another dog. I brought my family and my 2 dogs for them to meet, I did what they told me to do and I feel like they let me down and messed with my emotions. I don't understand how I'm not the right fit, my family owns their own home, we have a huge beautiful secured yard in Kāne'ohe, I have wonderful neighbors who are active K9 officers. I hike and surf everyday so I would take the dog with me everywhere I go and I feel they gave the puppy to an older lady who looks inactive, they are not making the right decision for a active dog breed which is a Pit Bull Bull Terrier mix, the foster said they gave the puppy to a employee of the foundation so I feel this company are 100% discriminatory they only choose military adoptees, I wouldn't support them after this. I'd rather just drive to Waianae and find a puppy myself which you guys are doing and selling them for money, you guys sell adult dogs for $150 and puppies for $200

A 501(c)(3) non-profit NO-KILL dog rescue organization based on the island of O'ahu and run entirely by volunteers. For now, their primary focus is to take in homeless dogs, foster them & adopt them out to "forever" homes who will love them for the extent of their lifetime. They're part of a handful of no-kill animal organizations on O'ahu that are dedicated to providing an alternative to the standard shelter that everyone knows about. Being run entirely by volunteers, they're always looking for new foster homes for dogs/puppies, monetary/material donations, and new volunteers to help staff the adoption drives they hold @ Pearl City PETCO every Sun, to assist with fundraising, dog transport, etc. The inspiration for this no-kill was a dog named Spreckles who was found wandering around in the Salt Lake area with no tags or microchip. It was a grassroots effort of several people who took him in & helped him find a home through "word of mouth," putting up posters, etc. One dog that was the catalyst for something beautiful. ------------ They have a website of their adoptable puppies/dogs on PetFinder.com: http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=HI08 ------------ They have a Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150103933960941&set=a.496848475940.299569.680900940&ref=notif&notif_t=photo_reply#!/group.php?gid=43702246424 ------------- E-mail: info@hawaiidogfoundation.org ------------ They also hold adoptions over at Pearl City PETCO on Sundays from 12 PM - 2 PM. Once a month, they hold a "Meet & Greet" at Mililani Mauka Dog Park from 12 PM - 2 PM on a Saturday. Next one is Dec. 11, 2010. These are events where you can meet some of the dogs/puppies dey get available for adoption.

I saw an online ad for a rummage sale benefiting this place and it excited us all to go. It was a…read morevery mixed visit to say the least. The Hawaii Animal Sanctuary isn't what you'd think; it's mostly a safe zone for feral cats. The smell is immediately noticeable when you get out of the car: feline feces. The hot day we were there just made it worse the longer we stayed. The coolest part of this place is that the property owns a number of World War II era tunnels. They were used for munition and food storage before being decommissioned. Now the sanctuary uses them for large rummage sales to raise money for the property. The tunnels smell old; they're humid and a bit uncomfortable for people bothered by that type of climate. They offer $5 historic tours with a guide at noted times, so be sure to be there early if you're interested. Now for the unpleasant things. We brought our dog along and I felt unwelcome. I was so confused due to the name. Asking about the makeup of the animals they care for (as stated above) it's only cats. After we did our shopping, the dog and I waited outside. It was unbearably hot in the sun. We waited under the tarp area and were quickly met with fire ants biting our feet. Going under the trees, the smell was even worse, and immediately our feet were covered with flies. They were unrelenting. It was then we headed back in to the tunnel - I'd much rather deal with humidity than filth. In come the volunteers. I was reprimanded and rudely talked to on more than one occasion while I was minding my own business. No details are necessary, only they were "yelling" at the wrong person. It really turned me off to wanting to come back or bring others here. I'm unsure about their mission even less so when rudeness is all I experienced; outside of the stench that is.

First, the parking is very limited and you might have park a block away or so in the residential neighborhood. If you park outside, be aware that there is a very long and very steep driveway that you would have to walk up to get to the bunkers. Be prepared for a long hot tour if you go during the summer like we did. Bring water to hydrate and make sure you use the restroom just before you arrive because there is no public restroom. The fee for the tour is only $5 and $3 for children. Unfortunately our 11:00 tour was very large with about 70 people attending. So, as we enter the bunker we crowd together so we can listen to the tour guide but the air gets warmer because of everyone's body heat so you start perspiring from the start. The tunnels add to the acoustics so that with a large crowd you can hear everyone talking which makes it hard to hear the narration. People started shushing others but that only made them talk softer which really didn't help because their voices still can be heard in the tunnels. They say that the 1:00 tour is the least crowded so that might be the best option if you want to go. After the first half hour we gave up. We were dripping with sweat and frustrated because we couldn't hear the narration so we cut our losses and left. What history we did manage to hear was very interesting so I may return when the weather cools. There is also a thrift shop in the bunker where everything they sell is really cheap. My wife managed to find a few items and it only cost her $5. All proceeds go the the animal shelter so your money goes to a good cause.

Here is my story: I usually have my cats under control at home or cat boarding at my veterinarian's location when I travel. but shucks! I wasn't lucky this past weekend. The other side of the coin is I was lucky because I found Pounce. A couple points 1. a walking distance to my office 2. pricing comparable to what my vet would charge 3. please environment for my felines 4. easy drop off easy pick up 5. daily follow up with pics of my felines from Pounce 6. comprehensive schedule of their stay; to and including when they use the bathroom... go figure! 7. they can/will administer meds if need be (one of my girls has asthma) My felines while happy to return home with me were treated with kindness and care. I will always go to Pounce from now on. Now then, the facility- clean, climate and air controlled facilities. I went to the Queen Street location and parking was easy. Right in front. You will need to call them when you get there. The doors are closed (for obvious reasons) and one of the gals will come out to get you. Same process on the way out! They have your fur babies all packed up and ready to go. Call them and they will wheel them out to your car!!! Sadly, I won't be boarding my felines at my vet any more as I'm so pleased with Pounce. Imagine! My own vet who cares for my fur babies want to charge you all sorts of things to board. Forget that; especially since my felines were not strangers to the vet clinic. But now! my felines are no longer strangers to Pounce. A definite must try if you have felines to board!

We drove by and noticed this place and gave the number a ring via Google, and we were able to get an appointment on short notice. The owner came out with a little money, as he was even generous enough to pay for my parking. We tried the dole whip and the other treats that they offered and all of them were delicious. You can tell that the owners are really passionate about cats and kittens, and they really care about customer service. There is a lot of thought and energy that has been put into this place. The cats were all friendly but remember they are still cats so they have claws. If anything, some just wanted to play and were a little more assertive about it :) I was so delighted with the experience that I made a voluntary donation for $100. Covid has destroyed a lot of small businesses and I would hate to see this one go even though I am from California. Thank you Kitty Cafe! Hope I visit again soon.

We go to the two in town once every few months, and enjoy the wide range of cats and kitten alike. Rebekah L. introduced us to this new kitty cafe early late last month, however with our schedules and the busy-ness of this lounge, we were only able to schedule a visit this past weekend. So we loaded up, and drove to meet Rebekah in not-so-small Kailua Town. We lucked out on street parking and met up with our friend to walk into the most kitschy kitty place of our dreams. Literally. The waiting area was decorated with cat posters and comfy chairs to wait for check in. The most impressive part was the huge cat tiki that commanded attention as soon as walking in. One of the cat owners, Heather, advised that the statue was commissioned and the work was so beautifully done it had me wondering if I wanted a cat tiki in my apartment.. After check in, we were directed to the snacks for purchase before entering the 'cat room'. We opted for both treats, and it would be brought into the cat room after it was made. The dole whip was delicious and such a generous portion too. We also tried the acai bowl for 'research purposes' and I was shocked to learn in was vegan. The acai bowl sweetness wasn't overpowering as it sometimes can be, and the granola had a nice crunch to it. So far this kitten lounge has my favorite snacks- definitely blew the previous bean water and tea out of the water. The nicest touch (in my opinion) was that the owner also directed us where the bathroom was before starting our cat adventure. It was a very nice touch as many places do not offer bathrooms, especially cat lounges. We sanitized our hands and walked into the cat area. There was a main cat area, currently decorated in the tiki/Old Hawaii style with tiny grass huts and aloha shirt cats framing the walls. One thing I was surprised and delighted to discover was that there was multiple cat rooms! To the left of the main room, there was two smaller rooms, decorated 'cat' themed as well, with Chinese Cat Paw wallpaper and cat trees and toys all over. There was 'human' seating room all over the place, and the different rooms allowed much more space and time with cats than it would have been with just one big room. There was enough hiding space for the kittens to chill out for a nap. However they were relentless in their playing and just general 'kitten-ness' that there wasn't much napping when we were there. We currently have a soon to be three year old cat, and have been on the hunt for a possible candidate for our shy guy. One thing I didn't notice beforehand (in my excitement for cats) was that the lounge was only meant for kittens, and not cats of all ages. It didn't take away from my experience at all, but I was pleasantly surprised. My fiancé ended up falling for a cute tiny kitten named Kona, however it wasn't meant to be and we didn't end up adopting her. After our hour was up, we said a heartful goodbye to the kittens and the Owners, and left feeling much more relaxed than when we came in. We will be adding Aloha Kitty Cafe into our roster of cat lounges to visit and cannot wait for our next kitty play date!

Joey was in and out of this hospital through some very serious moments. He had to be induced many times, undergo emergency procedures, and face situations where I truly didn't know if I would get more time with him. And every single time, this team showed up--with skill, urgency, and unwavering dedication. They didn't just treat him... they gave him more life. Because of them, Joey lived to 15 years and 2 months--time I know I wouldn't have had otherwise. That is something I can never repay. But what truly sets this hospital apart is their compassion. Every doctor, every technician, every staff member treated Joey like he was their own. And they treated me with such kindness and patience through every high and every devastating low. When it came time to say goodbye, they handled his final moments with a level of grace and humanity that I will never forget. There was no rush, no clinical coldness--only quiet compassion. They made space for love, for dignity, and for a peaceful goodbye. In the middle of the hardest moment of my life, they created something that felt gentle... and even beautiful. Joey wasn't just a patient there. He was known, he was loved, and he was fought for. And I will be forever grateful to this team for giving me the gift of more time with my boy--and for helping me say goodbye to him in the most compassionate way possible.
