Got to Lanikai Beach and the Lanikai Beach Value Package with SUP (ignore our towels and backpack) was set up and waiting.
Debbie S.

When you're staying in the North Shore there aren't many options for renting snorkeling gear and/or other equipment. Thankfully a Google search lead me to Hawaii Beach Time. We rented snorkel sets for the week. The gear looked brand new. Everything worked great, no leakage. We also did the Lanikai Beach Value package with a SUP vs double kayak. When we got to Lanikai Beach everything (four chairs, large cooler with ice and the SUP) was set up and waiting for us. We lost out on the umbrella since a bolt broke and there wasn't a replacement. There were a few other people at Lanikai Beach who were using equipment from Hawaii Beach Time. (They had the same chairs, cooler, and umbrella.)The family next to us had a double kayak. Halfway through the day we traded and they used the SUP and we used the double kayak. After they left, the delivery driver (I can't recall his name) asked if we wanted to use the double kayak (for no additional charge) since we weren't able to get one when we called. We opted not to since we already had but the third group of people chose to use it. I would definitely rent from Hawaii Beach Time again. Pros: 1) They deliver just about anywhere on the island. 2) Delivery and pickup are free. 3) They work around your schedule: we had snorkel gear dropped off at 8pm. What other company would do that? 4) Delivery drivers are on time, if not early. So you aren't waiting around for them. 5) Ryan and the other delivery guys are very friendly and accommodating. 6) They have everything you would need for the beach. 7) Equipment is in excellent to great shape. 8) Prices are very reasonable. 9) If you get a beach value package, when you show up at the beach everything is set up waiting for you. Including a large cooler with ice. 10) You can modify any of their beach packages. 11) Did I mention they deliver? You don't have to drive into Waikiki for your gear. Cons: 1) Their equipment doesn't have their phone number or name on it. 2) Sometimes they don't have gear when you want it. 3) They aren't on the other islands. I have photos on my blog.

Costco foam Wavestorm paddle board. $40/day. It works.
Tommy C.

Need a paddleboard? Call them up. Leave a message. They call back and arrange the drop. If they are busy, it might take a while (1-2hrs) for a return call and they might run out of equipment. The boards are regular soft foam boards. Not high performance. They were able to deliver 2 out of the 3 times I called for same day service with no reservations. Driver is on time and courteous. At the time of reservation there was a 15% discount with Yelp check in but they claimed they had never heard of it. They honored it on my 2nd rental. For $40 it's a convenient option. Call ahead for reservations if you know when/where you would like to set up.

My wife and I rented umbrellas, chairs and snorkel gear from Hawaii Beach Time during our honeymoon. They delivered the gear to our hotel in Waikiki, and when we left, we were able to just drop the gear back off the bell desk for them to pick up. We scheduled the drop off for a couple of hours after our arrival, and we were able to keep everything until the morning we left for the airport. All extremely convenient. We are experienced snorkelers, and we were a bit worried that masks and fins wouldn't be of high quality - but they are actually very nice and seemed brand new. The umbrellas and chairs were also in great condition, and surprisingly light. Umbrellas and chairs have straps to make it easy for you to bring them with you from the hotel to the beach, or from your car to the beach. Chairs also had a zipper pocket and zipper cooler on the back, as well as a couple pockets on the arm for your phone or a drink. We will definitely use them again next time we are on Oahu!

I was able to try on the pair, walk around in them, and learn more about their group from him. I really put it to the test today. My new shoes took me over 8,000 steps! This high cut protected my ankles and the wide front made it very comfortable with hiking socks. I really appreciated the sturdy sole because my shoes had fantastic grip on the slopes. At the end of the hike, I was totally safe. No slipping or sliding :) The best part about my purchase, this group plants a tree for every shoe sold! Thanks everyone, I'm loving my new kicks!

Climbing wall in back to try out climbing shoes. Like most small businesses on the island, they have very knowledgeable staff that help you with aloha. The best place for hiking shoes and climbing gear if you want to avoid the big brand stores at the mall. The gear is priced right and their exchange policy is very reasonable for a small business. You have 30 days and you can get something else. They cannot survive as a business if they allowed refunds because tourists would buy gear, go hike or climb with it during their visit, and returned it afterwards. That would be a rental business! That's not what this store is. Same neighborhood as Hi Climb gym too! So convenient. SHOP SMALL! And we have a store here in Hawaii too--located along Ward Ave between Waimanu and Kawaiahao Street with plenty of unshaded parking. The inside is very open, clean, cool, and comfortable. Everything was quite organized and each section was spacious. The first time I came here I couldn't really understand how most of the clothes aren't even for Hawaii weather..... or Hawaii pockets.... unless you travel to many places to do winter sports and activities. Funny enough, I received a gift card for Pantagonia shortly after my first visit. Now that I need to actually buy something. I focused on the casual, running/training, ocean activity areas. Needless to say, everything was quite expensive in my opinion. The quality is there and the clothes do feel similar to other brands. Is it worth THAT much though? My co-worker says this place is like the Lululemon for outdoors. Sounds about right. Overall, this store was really nice, cool, and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Everything really organized. It's quite niche. I guess if I need some ice climbing gear, I'll know where to go. Eventually I got a pair of shorts. Regular price is $135. Thankful for the gift card cause I'm not on THAT level...yet.

I wrote postive reviews for individual employees in the past which was well deserved and I feel sorry for them if West Marine folds. After the old hag refused to sell me the boat, I bought a 14 foot aluminum Jon boat for $200, a yamaha motor 6hp for $800, and all the whistles, batteries, life preservers, bilge pumps, flares, seat cushions, rope, fuel tanks, Gps, oars, and whatever else I needed from West Marine competitors. I would have bought everything that night at West Marine which amounted to another $1200 after purchasing the boat. Today I get a email from West Marine saying it is filing for CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY. Hmmm, I don't wonder why. I know why. The problem starts with the store manager, training and monitoring sales and customer service. The solution is relocate or get rid of the manager and the store employees that do not take their job seriously and provide customer service. Simple economics, sell the boat and accessories, and $2000 ends up in the register, employees get paid, and the company makes a profit and stays in business. Hire lame old idiots that rather talk story and bad mouth the company that employs them equals $0 in sales, store closures, and unemployment. Stores that file bankruptcy always closes in the end. COMMON SENSE!!!! I hope the outdoor power equipment dealer a few blocks down the road see this! His ghost town business will soon be gone too!

At the time of purchase the salesperson said TNF has a lifetime warranty on their product and I appreciated the heads up. I take good care of my jackets and today I wore it for protection from the heavy rain. When I got home I noticed the inside lining of the hood was peeling. Other than that the jacket was in mint condition. Non fading, no tears, all zippers were in good working order. Fortunately, I still had the receipt so I went to the TNF store at Ala Moana Shopping Center to see what can be done. Salesperson 969009 assisted me with my issue with the jacket and after answering a few questions he then inspected the jacket and agreed it was well taken care of and in good condition. I filled out a form and to my surprise I received a full refund in a gift card. Not prorated but a full refund! I immediately looked around the floor and found another light jacket to my liking and purchased it from the store. Just want to say the salesperson (unfortunately I didn't get his name) was very helpful, professional and very knowledgeable. If I still worked as a store manager for Nordstrom I would have recruited him immediately.

The staff is always welcoming and checking in on everyone to see if you have questions or needs. A few years before COVID, I purchased a combo weather jacket that was on sale and had a water resistant shell with a fleece inner jacket. Years passed and on one of my trips after COVID I noticed I was shedding these white particles whenever I took my jacket off. Come to find out, the water resistant lining on the inside of the shell was coming off. Feeling I got a bum jacket, and assuming that's why the jacket was on sale, I started thinking of what I could get to replace this one. Fast forward to 2024, I was wondering inside the store, 'just looking' and an employee kindly asked if I needed help. She reminded me of my jacket that the liner was coming off so I asked her about that and if they could reapply the liner. She said, "Sure, we can take a look at that." She was leading to that all their jackets have a lifetime warranty so if anything goes wrong, bring the jacket to them and they will send to service for free! If they cannot repair the jacket, they will give you a gift card in the price of the jacket for you to purchase a current model or something else to your liking. Before this day, I had no clue of the lifetime warranty lol. Ended up buying a Gortex shell in the meantime while I sent my old jacket for service. Had to send both the shell and inner jacket for service and in about 3 weeks later I got an email from their service dept stating they couldn't repair the lining and will be issuing me a gift card in the price of what I paid. With that gc, I picked up a new inner fleece and a puffer vest. For that Autumn 2024 trip, I was wearing warm, updated gear and couldn't have felt more reassured that I spent those hundreds of dollars in the right spot. Today, Black Friday of 2025, I had $20 from my Xplorer Membership and the store was offering 30% off for their Black Friday sale. I was in the store on Tuesday, and was eyeing a beanie and new gloves I needed for my next trip. Came in today and got to stack my $20 and get the 30% off my purchases. On top of this, the employee wished me Happy Holidays... love this time of the year. Forever a happy North Face customer... till my next adventure, Grind On, Pau!

I was there October 31 and I saw that they had NFL logos on their bottles. I was trying to decide on color and when I flipped it over to check the price, one was $9 more than the other, so naturally that helped me decide to get the cheaper one. I was in a rush so I didn't inspect it fully or even realize that I paid the price for one that was $9 more until the next day when I noticed there was a small dent on the cap. I brought it back to the store to exchange for another without a dent and asked about the cost. The young girl behind the register, called for the manager because she didn't know what to do. The manager told me that it rang up at the correct price. I showed her the price tag and she responded with, "Someone has been changing the tags". Ok well I didn't know that and it's not my problem. I told her that I had just purchased the night before so how was I getting charged the newer price. She explained further that someone in their store--and employees keeps changing the tags. First of all if you know you have an employee doing this, WHY are they still employed by you? And second, it was on you, you should have just honored the price. If it was a few dollars, I would have just let it slide but $9-come on. And any other store would have corrected this properly. You guys didn't. For this reason I won't shop here anymore.
