Lulo and tangerine sorbets
Helene C.

Every market's gotta have an ice cream stall. On a summer day at the market, I was most looking for a stop at this place. At first, I was a little concerned about dairy but yay, they have vegan sorbets and there's a great selection of flavours! So many that I didn't know what to choose. I was tempted by a combination of exotic fruits. Then I noticed some unusual flavours such as corossol (soursop) and lulo (naranjilla). I got a sample of lulo which taste is similar of groundcherry or tangy pear. I would definitely visit again and combine different flavours.

Normally I don't like macaroons so the fact that I kept buying one after the other here tells me that this place is AMAZING!! they have ice cream inside the macaroons which is what drew me in the first place. They had coconut, mango, espresso, caramel, etc. I think the lady was laughing not at my French, but at the fact that I would buy one, turn around eat it, and then buy another one. I spent a good $20 trying all their flavors and going to the extreme here. Where else can you find ice cream inside an amazing macaroon for only $2 each? Best food find of my whole trip for sure!!

Great Ice cream on a hot summer day! If your walking around downtown MTL, you'll like it here. They have so many flavours but I went with the pistachio flavour and no regrets. So creamy and not to sweet, just the way I like it. The cone wasn't stale and was good. Lots of benches to sit around to enjoy your dessert, a little market that operates and sell lots of different foods, and a nice bike/walk path across the little bridge to enjoy your day. When I come back to MTL, I'm coming back here. Ice Cream was just so good!

So glad I stumbled upon this place when exploring Jean Talon Market. This is melt in your mouth kind of gelato. They have many other treats including frozen macaroons and mini chocolate balls with ice cream. I got a combination of their pear sorbet and dulce de leche. I thought the creaminess of the dulce de leche would overpower the sorbet but no way! Both sweet flavours complimented each other well and the pear was potently delicious with every mouthful! The mini chocolate balls with ice cream are a nice, quick treat but if you want to be thoroughly impressed then try their gelato.

Stumbled upon this place over the weekend whilst exploring the Jean Talon Market. I was casually passing-by checking out the vendors when I caught a waft of warm sweet sugary goodness which stopped me in my tracks. Standing outside Havre-aux-Glaces, I could see the mouth-watering waffle cones being freshly prepared. That did it for me, I had to get one of my own! Being a weekend, the queue was quite lengthy but I didn't mind as it gave me time to decide on what to have! From Masala Chai to Maple Crème Brulee, Mango to Pink Grapefruit, we were spoilt for choice on authenticity and uniqueness! I decided to keep it simple (as it was close to breakfast time) and opted for a Cranberry & Raspberry Sorbet in their homemade waffle cone. It cost around 5$ which was a little on the steeper side, but after tasting, WOW it definitely is worth it! The flavour was divine and very fresh - you can actually taste real fruit! Cannot wait to return soon to try their signature ice creams and sample the other flavours. One visit is definitely not enough!

Havres-aux-glaces is a glacerie that offers homemade ice creams and sorbets all year round. Flavors for ice cream include Maple and Pecan, Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut, Ginger, Mirabelle ice cream, Espresso, Vanilla, Dulce de Leche, and Matcha; sorbet flavors include Melon and Orange Blossom, Lemon, Mango, Mango Malai, Coconut Milk, Mirabelle Plum, Masala Chai, and Pear and Sortilege. Seasonal flavors get added all the time, so be sure to check them out! I tried a cup of raspberry, pear, and melon and orange - each had a very distinct flavor of their respective fruits - it was unbelievably refreshing and delicious! It seems as if fruits at their peak of freshness and ripeness were used, and turned into a sorbetto form. Each taste was magical, and it's probably the best sorbetto I've had in quite some time! They also have a booth at the Atwater Market, so you can check both locations out! +wonderful sorbettos! :D +friendly staff +located at both the Jean-Talon and the Atwater markets

Amazing Sorbet. I tried the strawberry sorbet and it was amazing. Not expensive. Good location. Staff is friendly and will let you try many flavors.

I chanced upon this ice-cream & sorbet shop when I was doing my maiden round at Jean Talon Market. I could sense that adrenaline rush in me when it comes to candied stuff and asking myself if I should get a scoop at 9am seems unwarranted. Desserts in any form always make my day, I am not a real sweet toothed but when u are away from home for an extended period of time and missed some of that comforting food, u just need something to get yourself connected and feel good. And ice cream is the easiest and cheapest means to get me excited and happy and especially when that the ice creams are laced with maple syrup - 2 maple flavored ones are waving at me from afar! Obviously there wasn't any crowd on a Friday morning when I patronized. I asked for a sample on the 2 maple ice cream and when I couldn't decide which one to get, the lady offer a mix of both even for a petite cup (the mini in the cup range). Smooth, creamy and intense, the Caramel & Maple ice cream swept me off my feet. Instantly, I revealed a broad smile! I know this is a notch sweeter than the ones I had at Maple Delights, but the latter don't partner up caramel with maple in their store. This one at Havres-aux-Glaces has a robust burnt sugar taste with a harmonious maple scent, clean and without a trace of off-flavor. Lovely. The she mixed it up with my second choice; Maple and pecans. Equally smooth and creamy, this is less nectarous than the caramel variant but it has a modest pecan bites in them, adding extra depth, quite nutty but Maple Delights is more generous in their walnut helping. The service is prompt although the lady at the counter didn't win the "most friendlier" badge from me. But the gooey taste in that single scoop makes up for that. I couldn't care much as long as it put a smile on me! $2.35 for a petite cup? Definitely worth any moment!!

This is their anchor store located at Jean Talon and really should not be missed when visiting the market place. Havres-Aux- Glaces makes ice cream, sorbets and desserts using fresh locally sourced products which change seasonally depending on freshness and availability. The quality is superb, the variety can be daunting but don't let that stop you, H-Aux-G is a real treat for ice cream lovers searching for that unique fresh flavored sweet treat sensation.

This is the best gelato I have ever tasted (after a week in Italy, several months in Paris, and obsessive ice-cream eating everywhere I travel)! Havre Aux Glaces has incredibly inventive flavors, including masala chai, fig, pear and cider, ginger, strawberry with black pepper, etc. etc. I suggest sampling a bunch until you find one you love. They also mix the flavors and have ice cream cakes. We mixed a poire et cidre with gingembre and it was absolutely incredible! The pear gelato manages to capture the essence of pear, including a perfect Bosc texture, while the ginger really gave you that gingery bite. Definitely worth a stop during your next trip to the Jean-Talon market, or even during your next trip to Montreal!

Deliciously and sinfully rich ice cream!

Yummy ice cream! I tried a chocolate flavour and a caramel flavour, and both were very rich and satisfying! I like that they form a rose shape with the ice cream, which is a nice touch. You can wander around the rest of the market after, which is really convenient!

Chai masala and maple creme brûlée
Claudia D.

Really cute gelato place at the Jean-Talon Market. I ordered 2 scoops in the medium cup. The first flavor I chose was Chai masala, which is made with soy milk and the other was maple crème brulée. Both were really good! The portion was decent, I think they could have packed on a bit more but other than that it was fine. They have a nice variety of sorbets. I can`t wait to try their other flavours.

Dark 70% European chocolate, alongside of pistachio. With a good amount of flavour and chopped pistachios.

Simply the creamiest, the most flavourful and smoothest ice cream there is in Montreal. The owner focuses using local, simple, and natural ingredients. Food colouring and artificial flavouring is not part of his recipe book for what I think it's the best ice cream in Montreal. The flavours are strong, the texture is creamy and the staff is friendly! Yes, it's a bit pricier than other ice cream shops. I promise you every lick of it will be worth it! There is two main locations, which are easy to find. Across the Atwater market with views of the Lachine canal, or in the hallways of the Jean Talon Market. Both locations have the same flavours. Yet, Jean Talon Market does not have the water view to enjoy while you're indulging. To begin with, since you'll probably be back again to taste other flavours. I recommend you the combination of 70% chocolate, and the raspberry sorbet, which has a strong, summer fresh raspberries taste to it, with many pieces of raspberries. A great tangy touch to it as well! You'll be screaming for more!

The chocolate ice cream on the other hand is super saturated (note the Dutch chocolate is the same as the sea salt except the salt). While I loved the ice cream, unless I'm specifically in the mood for something creamy, I actually think I would prefer to get the sorbets next time for the more concentrated gelato-like flavor. The matcha sorbet seemed like a winner, but they also have such a wide range of delicious flavors. They let you try some flavors, which is perfect for an indecisive person like me. And the servers are so sweet!

We first got a double scoop of the Orange and Arctic Fire Sorbets. I'm not usually one to get orange-flavoured desserts/drinks since I can easily get some old-fashioned OJ, but this Orange Sorbet was absolutely divine on the hot day. Sweet and tangy, yet not overpowering. The Arctic Fire was an interestingly sweet with a floral tone - I wish I remembered the main ingredient, but I was too busy indulging in my ice-cream/sorbet addiction. The sorbets were incredibly good. After we devoured them, we went back in immediately to try more flavours. My friend and I ultimately decided on the Mango and Passion Fruit Sorbets, both representing tangy fruits that we enjoy and love. The owner highly recommended the Cantaloupe to help us cool off, and proceeded to give us a free scoop on top of our packed cup! We were so appreciative of the free scoop, and I'm glad we got to try it out! It was my favourite flavour - it genuinely tasted straight like the fruit, just an ice-y form. My friend's favourite was the Orange. If you're in the Mont-Royal area, make sure to give this place a try! I wish we tried some of their ice-cream flavours, but we already did 5 different sorbet flavours that night. Couldn't afford a brain freeze! I think from now on, I'm gonna start trying Orange-flavoured desserts/drinks.
