It's been a couple years but I always make sure to visit Crèmerie Dalla Rose. The service wasn't the most helpful but at least we were able to sample a few flavours (when we asked). Not sure why they no longer label what each flavour is in their display case. There was 11 ice cream and one sorbet flavour to choose from along with soft serve, granita and sundae. They also have their cookies and ice cream sandwich options. Prices have jumped significantly; $6.00 (single), $8.00 (double) and $9.00 (triple). Yikes. - Double ($8.00) - we went with the chicha morada sorbet (Peruvian purple corn drink) and blé d'inde du Québec (corn). The chicha morada was delicious. The texture was a little runny but man on man, it was refreshing. The corn (my previous favourite here) was good but not as creamy as I remember. First ice cream stop of the trip was at Crèmerie Dalla Rose. There was a dozen ice cream & sorbet flavours. Scoops are $6.00 (single) to $9.00 (triple). We shared a double scoop ($8.00) of chicha morada sorbet and Quebec corn. The chicha morada was bursting with flavour but a touch runny. Corn was solid. High quality, interesting flavours but be prepared to dole out the dough. Would try the granita next time. read more

Got there in the evening and there is no much choice left. We ordered Earl Gray, Hazelnut and Tiramisu, but disappointed after tasted 3 flavors that are ALL too sweet. Can't even taste the tea flavor in Earl Gray because of the sweetness, which we think it is not a good thing...If you prefer light sugar then this place is not for you, that was the sweetest ice-cream we've ever tried, they ended up in the garbage because we just can't finish them read more

Normally it's very good. But today I decided to try the coffee and cardamom which sounded delicious, it was not, basically just tasted like cardamom flavored sugar. Almost no coffee flavor at all. I will go back as I know many of their other flavors are good but I guess I'll just stay away from any of their vegan offerings in the future. read more

I love this ice cream store! You can pick different types of cookies (peanut butter, chocolate chip, and coconut) and make your own ice cream sandwich, which is awesome! The staff was friendly and let us try a few flavours. They even have unique flavours like corn on the Cobb! And they even have vegan ice cream! The vegan chocolate coconut one was great but nothing out of the ordinary. I am going to start off by talking about their ice cream, which earned them 5 stars. I was about to buy a scoop of their cookie flavored ice cream when it sold out. In it's place, they had corn ice cream. My immediate reaction was oh god no, but I tried a taster of it and was instantly sold on it. So good! Sweet, great texture and unique ice cream. I was so impressed. Considering the last ice cream I had was from Dairy Queen, this was a huge, huge step up. My husband got plain vanilla and was very pleased. My friend had the coffee flavor and said it was delicious. I tasted hers as well and it was a really nice strong coffee flavor. They had a ramen pop up too, which was the original reason for our visit. I'll start by saying I am not a huge ramen fan or expert. My husband is the ramen lover. There were actual pieces of their baked cookies inside the ice cream - it was amazing! I would go back and try a cookie ice cream sandwich next time. -- Went back and got an ice cream sandwich - phenomenal! Oh god SO GOOD! Many unique and original flavour choices available. They tend to have a few new options every time, so you're best to try every flavour thats interests you, because they may not be there the next time. (No complaints here, bring it on! ) There is also always a couple vegan options too which is amazing, they're coconut based and really really good. They lacked a great deal of chewiness. Which made it quite difficult to eat with my hands since the cookie kept breaking each time I took a little bite of it. Heard lots of hype about Dolla Rose so decided to check it out one evening while in St-Henri. Great boutique, nicely located in front of the park and the line moves very quickly. I tried their 70% dark chocolate and sesame ice cream. Both were delicious, sharp flavor and creamy! I definitely think Kem Coba is better for the same price but Dalla Rose is an excellent choice for residents and visitors to St-Henri. read more

What a nice surprise having this sneaky little gem appear around the corner this week! It opened three days ago and I can assert that last night, on our second visit, the place was already packed like sardines. Don't let that deter you from a visit however- the lines move fast enough and the product is amazing! Of what I've tried so far (peanut, strawberry, sesame, coco vegan and keffir lime) there wasn't a lame flavour, nothing was overly-sweet, and you can tell that this handmade ice cream is from some quality ingredients. What's more is that you can take any two of their handmade cookies with any of their ice creams and fashion a GIANT ice cream sandwich. My only mild criticism is that it is on the pricier end of the spectrum for ice cream, but you definitely get what you pay for here. Vegan note: on our second visit, with the place packed, the person who had served us the first time recognized us, remembered that my partner was vegan, and tucked away the last of the vegan ice cream for him so that he could still enjoy a VEGAN ICE CREAM SANDWICH, despite the line ahead of us. For one of my last ice creams of the season it seemed appropriate to try a new place that I had been meaning to go to all summer, Dalla Rose. Owned by the same people who bring you Nora Gray they are using locally-sourced organic dairy products to serve up delicious ice cream. The shop is fairly small and simple. They have a handful of ice cream flavours as well as ice cream sandwiches made using cookies that they make themselves. On this visit I went for the S'more and Cookies flavours. Both tasted really creamy however the S'more flavour tasted more like just plain chocolate. The price for the cone is $5 which is reasonable. It was amazing - I wish I could try all the flavours. They also have vegan options. The space is bright and the service was really friendly. I'm no ramen expert however, my meal was delicious. Like, delicious delicious. The broth had the perfect intensity of miso flavour with a tiny tiny zing to it. The noodles were expertly cooked, and the vegetables fresh. I don't even like mushrooms and I ate every single one. The protein option is just right, to boot. On our visit to this ice cream shop upon a recommendation from a friend we came away very happy. They serve ice crew either in a cone, cup or with cookies. We tried the coffee ice cream - very good flavour and very filling, and the cookie flavour, also good flavour and very filling. They also sell locally made soft drinks which are quite tasty. This is probably the best vegan ice cream in Montreal. It's a small place that has about 10-12 flavours at a time, half of which are vegan. (The cones are vegan too.) Everything is homemade so the flavours are super unique and change regularly. I've seen rhubarb, coconut-yellow-watermelon, and matcha, as well as more typical flavours like peanut-butter-cookie and chocolate. I've tasted so many of them and have yet to try one I didn't like. Since the ice creams are coconut-based, they're creamy and satisfying and don't suffer from the icy/watery fate that many soy-based desserts do. Dalla Rose also sells cookies, two of which are vegan (peanut butter and gingerbread) and at least one is gluten-free. This means that they do ice cream sandwiches! The only thing I would change is that (like another reviewer mentioned) you have to buy two scoops to get two flavours. Since the quantities are quite large (and also not cheap, especially with added tax & tip), it's never been appealing to me to get two scoops. So many of their flavours would go great together though (matcha + chocolate!; rhubarb + coconut!), so it's really a shame they don't have the option of splitting one scoop, as many other ice cream places do. Summer time in Montreal is a great time to be here - beautiful weather (for the most part), great festivals and outdoor activities to enjoy. Summer time also means ice cream and the need to have some great ice cream shops to enjoy. Down in the sud-ouest, there really haven't been any creameries of note save for Glaces aux Havres by the Atwater Market, however that has changed with the opening of Cremerie Dalla Rose in St-Henri. Started up by two alumni of Nora Gray, Michael Dalla Libera and Nick Rosari, Dalla Rose is located on Notre-Dame Ouest which may now be my favourite strip in Montreal food-wise - next door to Rustique, Tuck Shop, Adamo, Arthur's (visit to come very soon!), Bar de Courcelles and Tejano. The parlour is a simple walk-in counter service - a sparse but bright room (liked the tile work on the floor to create the queue line) with no seating inside and a relatively small menu on the wall. You have the option of either ice cream by cone, by cup or inside a sandwich using in-house baked cookies. You can also just order the cookies without ice cream. Dalla Rose uses organic dairy products for the ice cream and the flavours apparently will vary from week-to-week and season-to-season. Regardless of the flavours I tried, I found the ice cream to be rich, creamy and very smooth in consistency. At the same time, it feels firm enough. When the ice cream is put in the middle of the cookies for the sandwich, the ice cream isn't so soft that it melts away too quickly. You don't have to rush your enjoyment of the sandwich. On my few visits over a couple of weeks, I tried a few different options. First, I tried a cup of both kaffir lime leaf and Quebec strawberry ice cream. The strawberry ice cream has a great flavour that feels both strong but natural. It doesn't overwhelm. I really enjoyed the lime leaf flavour as well - the lime is tart but nicely subtle to the point of surprising me. Lime ice cream is often very overpowering but this was more refined. Very nice. On another visit, I tried the classic vanilla and chocolate flavours. The vanilla was very nice - the specks of vanilla bean telling you you're getting the real deal - sweet and almost milky. The chocolate was nice and dark in color - tons of chocolatey goodness. A perfect pair as they should be! On my second follow-up visit, I decided to get a sandwich of cookie ice cream between a set of vegan peanut cookies. The cookies were stiff enough to hold the ice cream but soft enough to actually make it possible to eat the sandwich as an actual sandwich - instead of the usual "suck up the ice cream and then eat the softened cookies" afterwards. Liked the flavour of the peanut cookies and the cookie ice cream - great vanilla with pieces of cookie mixed in. Dalla Rose is a great addition to the sud-ouest. Summer still has a ways to go so when you are walking around the Canal or elsewhere in the Sud-Ouest, don't forget to walk over Dalla Rose for a scoop. They will cool you off nicely!
