Just signed the papers yesterday for my deaf Australian Shepard puppy with Haven Humane Society. I must say sometimes the staff won't always be enthusiastic but that is because working with so many animals can wear anyone out; that doesn't mean they don't love what they do. The areas for the cats and dogs were very clean. The visiting area just as well. Staff were happy to help me out and to assist me with my adoption when I had any questions. I was even allowed a second visit with my new little guy after signing all of the adoption papers. I have read many stories about shelters discouraging people about deaf dogs which haven humane society did not do with me. I have adopted two dogs from Heaven in the last 10 years. Their Vet. service sucks and they are not a low cost vet. They charge full price for Tri-Heart 93.00 for a year supply when you can get it for 60.00 on line. When you call the vet. office they won't answer then recording comes saying they will return calls. That's a damn lie because I called twice and left messages, and four days later still no return call. The people that work at the front desk are as worthless as tits on a boar. read more

Took my 2 females dogs in to get spayed they tried up selling me some stuff but when I got my bill they had added all kinds of cost they said one of my dogs was in heat , which she wasn't said one was obese again not the case charged me for 1 dog going to the bathroom while being caged for 12 hours and to top it off both my dogs now have kennel cough I will never take any of my animals there again read more

ive been going to haven for many years all my cats have been taken care of there and even adopted a dog many years ago at haven, the reason why im writing is ive been lucky to have jenn help me, with people being upset and emotional she has always stayed professional and very understanding, shes been very kind to me and thats why i take all my animals there. haven is lucky to have her working there i go there because of the way im treated when i go in and see jenn, most are nice but not like jenn, she isnt fake. please do put a gold star on her record, shes kind and sweet and is always very helpful you have a wonderful person working for you. read more

I went to get my kitten fixed at the clinic and when I came to pick up my kitten they gave me the WRONG cat!! The front desk lady gave me a box that they provided and told me not to open the box until I get home because cats coming out from anesthesia can be confused and aggressive. I didn't listen to her and opened the boxed right as I walk out the doors, thankfully, finding a frightened grown fluffy black cat, who was for sure not my grey, little 5 month old kitten. Best prices in town! The clinical staff seem to be pretty knowledgeable but they don't keep records. Every time I go in, I have to fill out paper work like it's our first visit. They don't use a computer system so they have no idea what your pet usually uses for flea preventative or what vaccine they are due for. That's the price you pay for a low cost bill. Not somewhere I could rely on bringing my pet for emergencies. read more

I must say it is so hard to see so many animals needing homes. We adopted a dog this weekend. We weren't sure which one of the many would be best suited for us. Several staff were in the fenced area allowing dogs to socialize and play. We asked which dog(s) met our needs and they said, "this one, she's just great." I rescued a dog from a shelter in Hoopa, only to find out 2 days later that she had heartworm. Haven Humane treated her heartworm, spayed her and removed extra dew claws. When I had a question regarding possible bleeding, they checked her out the same day and found she was fine. They provided me with detailed instructions for aftercare. The care they provided was excellent then, and I continue to be very happy with the services they provide, at a reasonable cost as well. read more

the haven humane is all about NOT helping cats. I have so many horror stories I could tell but please try yourself to get them to come pick up a sick or hurt cat .Wont happen and if they tell you, oh you can bring in a sick or hurt cat they most likely when you get there say they wont take um we are full. I was told I could bring in 2 sick kittens from a place I had to get Peta to get them to go to help dying and sick cats .so I have the ok bring them in not even 1 hour later said they would only take 1 now .I said I know you are trying to get these cats and are going there tomorrow to trap so please take the two the yelled at me I said no and if you leave them here (on the desk in a carrier where they said to take them)that I would be written up for abandonment And I was received the ticket and court date in the mail they also would not give me back my new carrier . read more

I went to a low cost vaccine clinic and they gave my dog an unauthorized dog flu shot with a rabies shot w/o asking me. So a $10 rabies shot became a $45 bill after getting the most expensive shot they have - the dog flu shot. I explained to them how the dog is a ranch dog and has no contact with other dogs that are not mine ... and they gave my dog the shot anyway. This is nothing short of petty theft. There is no complaining to a supervisor - she was the one that gave the unauthorized shot !! - I will no longer support Haven Humane or adopt unwanted dogs from them ! read more

I normally would give five stars to anyone trying to help animals....but I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life. I called the shelter because I had found a stray cat in my back yard. I explained the situation to them and they told me to bring it by. I had my fiance take the cat in, he jokingly used the word "donation" when bringing the cat in and they automatically gave him attitude and told him that he could not bring the cat in and had to come in on a week day. Infuriated, my fiance came back to the car and drove off. I, assuming there had been some misunderstanding called back to inquire what happened. I was immediately met with a horrible attitude. The person on the other end of the phone was completely disrespectful and kept making up excuses about why they couldn't take the cat. Claiming that because he used the word "donation" it had to be dealt with in a different department. I asked, politely if I could speak with the manager so she could explain it to me, cause that just didn't make any sense to me. She repeated the same excuses and then told me that if I knew about this cat for more than 30 days, it was my cat. I told her it just came and went, I wasn't feeding it or anything, but she claims that my knowledge of the cat made it mine and refused to deal with me at all. So apparently I own all animals of which I am aware....I refuse to deal with this shelter. I have a ton of old pet supplies and toys I wanted to donate, but I will find another shelter. And when I decide to adopt another pet, I will not be dealing with these people. read more

Resuced a dog and had to get rid of him today at this "buisness". They refused to take him claiming they're full when i was told an hour prior that they had space. Went to grab my phone to call another place to see if i could get rid of him anywhere else. Then was threatened to fine me if i left him there. After claiming i was just going to get my phone, she just kept yelling at me until i said screw it and left to find a new shelter that would take the rescue. This place needs a serious restaffing. Will not be coming back and dont recommend to anyone unless you like being verbally abused. read more

I have had good luck with these folks for a few years with three pets. Unfortunatley my last experience has not been good. Took a sick cat in and they did what seemed to be a good job on her. For some reason she is still sick and have had to force feed and water her for the last two weeks. Last week called and was told to call after the weekend if she was still bad and make an appointment. Finally got them today. They soonest they can take her is in 9 days. They understand that the cat will not eat or drink. As the primary provider on this, they should take the cat now and see what the issue is, not make her endure another week and a half of force feeding. Am finding another facility for her since I no longer think that Haven Humane has the best interest of the animals as their priority. read more

Bait and Switch - They showed a cat on Petfinder that my son wanted to give to me as a present. My adult son called and made arrangements (he is out of area), so I went to pick it up. When I sent a picture of the kitten they gave me, we learned they "accidentally" mixed up the pictures with the name and said petfinder takes 3 days to fix it. They adopted out the kitten he requested, but are still showing him under the wrong name and as available - 6 days later. They don't refund money, and we don't refund our respect. read more

Just adopted a wonderful dog from the Haven Humane Society, and I found all of the people I encountered there to be kind and friendly people. They went out of their way to make things easy for me since I was coming all the way from the Bay area to adopt a dog I had seen on their website. I had a wonderful experience with them. read more

I am so surprised that there is only ONE review on HH! The staff there is composed of some of the sweetest people you will meet in Redding! my husband and I visited HH on a regular basis for a year looking for a purebred German Shepherd. Every time we did the staff was helpful, the site was maintained (though there was some poo in some of the kennels, but that's to be expected) and the pups were adorable! When we finally found and purchased TWO purebred GSD's in one day, the girls behind the counter were so obviously smitten with the poochies too, and couldn't thank us enough for saving them. Went to their spay and neuter clinic to get my kitten his booster vaccinations and to get neutered a couple of weeks ago. The vet tech was very nice and professional. They did not overly drug up my cat like I've experienced with other clinics in the past with my other cats, and was acting just like himself but my cuddly afterwords. I would recommend getting your pet spayed or neutered here if you are trying to pinch a few pennies :) read more

Most of the clinic staff are rude, and treat volunteers that have fostered for them with little regard and no thanks for spending 2 months with cats at home. Adopted the mommy cat, and had to surrender her to them for spaying; she was healthy at my house for 7 weeks, then 6 days after she comes home she develops upper respiratory disease. Haven took the baby cats who had not had their shots, back into the clinic system, so I imagine they came down with Upper Res. Dis. without benefit of vaccines. This clinic works with unsafe procedures for the animals, and no regard for volunteers. I was a regular donor as well. They just eliminated both those benefits for themselves!! I do thank the one staff member, Beth, who was very supportive and some of the Adoption/Admin people as well; but the clinic needs a serious overhaul of procedures and staff-to-customer interactions. read more

Haven Humane has to be one of the most needed and wonderful programs in our community. As I read some of the posts I have to ask what is wrong with people. Haven is a dumping ground for unwanted and neglected animals that are the result of people not taking responsibility. They come in sick having been rarely immunized and people think that it is their fault. Do you think it would be better if they just put all the animals down? They do amazing work. The never purposely adopt out sick animals. If you don't want your dog to get kennel cough then immunize against it prior to taking for spay and neuter. Thank you Haven Staff for all the good you do. You are not appreciated enough. Hands down some of the best group of people out there. read more

Was on hold for over 5 minutes to find out about their "low cost vaccines" When someone finally came on the line, I was asked if I qualified for Medicare or Medical. Apparently, low cost vaccines are only for those who qualify, not for the people whose taxes pay for Medicare and Medical. read more

extremely upset about our experience here. when we adopted our puppy (olive), we were told she needed to be spayed, and we could pick her up in 4 days, when we arrived, they had mixed up the I.D. number of two dogs and had spayed the wrong dog. although it was a simple mix up, the way they handled it was very unprofessional. 3 days passed with olive at our house, and we got a phone call saying there had been a few dogs with PARVO at the establishment, instantly worrying, i took olive down to be tested, and she tested positive for the disease, after that a "technician" came out to inform me they had "low cost" treatment options, i instantly informed her we thought that we felt that they were responsible for olive contracting the disease and that we thought they should take care of the medical bills, they declined numerous times. my wife then called both ashers animal hospital, and dana park veterinary clinic, who both confirmed that haven human is having an outbreak of PARVO, and that they should not even be adopting out dogs. to top it all off, PARVO lasts up to 10 years, once you have had it in your house you cannot have a puppy in there UP TO 10 YEARS! you cannot even have a dog in your house that is not up to date with its shots because they would be susceptible to the disease. they were completely unapologetic, and almost seemed like it was a routine for them. bottom line is if they can't get the parvo under control, they should not be adopting out dogs, nor should they be taking in dogs and introducing them to that environment. read more

I had to calm down before writing this. They offered a low cost nueter for males dogs for January. Petco would pay the difference so they would get full payment for the procedure. I took advantage of this and the staff was very nice to us. No one never told us that they were dealing with a bad situation and the bacteria that causes kennel cough is out of control there. My dogs were home 2 days and not acting themselves. I called and Lindsey was the person I got ahold of and she said sometimes dogs don't do well after surgery but watch them to make sure they were not coughing or sick. I called back Tuesday morning and left a message after 8 am. At 3:30 pm I called back and was told they were super busy. Ok I understand and she made an apt. for Thursday....Lindsey called to.confirm.my apt and when I told her my dogs were doing worse she tells me...well hopefully you seperated them. I am sorry but not once did anyone ever tell me they needed to be seperated. Took my dogs in and waited 45 minutes outside because they didn't want them inside if they were contagious. I understand that but after talking to everyone else outside I found out we all were at Haven within a week of each other and all our dogs had the same symptoms. I was told my dogs have kennel cough and given medication and charged an additional almost $50. The Dr. didn't even have the time to see my dogs and the nurse did everything. I felt like we didn't mater and it was Havens faukt my dogs got sick. When I told them that my dogs got sick at Haven just like all the other dogs outside I was told my apt time was over. Haven collected a full nueter cost between me and Petco plus and additional almost $50 because my dogs got sick and needed medication. I understand things happen but if you have that many dogs getting sick why not try to do a better job sanitizing or warn people and give the dogs medication when they come in for a proceedure.Learned my lesson, I will always pay full price and go to a Veterinarian. read more
