We found the perfect dog, couldn't take him home as next day he had a surgery scheduled. They took such great care of him, and the team of veterinarians were fantastic and extremely informative. My cousin found a dog a few months ago, and my 10 year old daughter was with her when they found her- my daughter and I don't want her sitting in a shelter. We were in the process of moving from Sonoma County to Shasta County. To make a long story short, we are now living up in shasta county full time. Today I went into Haven for some guidance, and explaining I am happy to foster her in my home until she is adopted. I was immediately spoke to like I was stupid for not "knowing Haven's Rules.' Now that she has been in our care for over 30 days, Haven refused to help us. The rude girl in the back area kept poking her head out to add and repeat the same rude, condescending comments. I just thought it was really unnecessary and mean spirited- Questioning if I even found the dog in shasta county- as if it mattered at this point, because you already told me "here's what that means, it means we won't be taking the dog and that she's your responsibility." And yes, my cousin found here in Redding. WHAT IS HAPPENING?! I have been trying to rehome this great dog and keep her out of a kennel, but I have learned that that is a bad thing to do in Haven's eyes. I don't work at a shelter, and I don't know what the specifics rules are. I'm sorry that I messed up. I was just trying to help. We have adopted and fostered with Haven in the past when we lived in shasta county three years ago, but I left feeling very ignored, spoken down to, like I was stupid for not knowing Haven's rules (I know, how dare I not study the pamphlet before stepping foot in their building). I understand that there is basically an epidemic of stray animals in Shasta County, but how you speak to people should matter. Even if you're unpaid volunteering, please rethink your "good deed" if you are going to go out of your way to try and make people feel unintelligent, dishonest, and just overall icky. I'm very disappointed in how I was treated today by the two women in the very first building- the pregnant woman and the other woman that was working with her. Boo. You are supposed to be here to help people, and I left feeling invalidated, like I did a bad thing, and almost like I was in trouble or something. What the heck?

We adopted our dog earlier this year and boy was it a wild ride for our first dog we've ever owned. I will say that I absolutely love our dog, she is the sweetest girl in the world and I wouldn't trade her for anything or anyone. I have no regrets in our decision to get her, but it was a rough Our dog was in heat when we got her. PWP said they only had her for a week and apparently they didn't have enough time to get her fixed. Part of our fees paid covered her spay, so we had an appointment scheduled with Haven. Haven called us a few days later to tell us there was a mix up in scheduling and we couldn't get her fixed on the appointment day PWP setup, so her surgery was pushed out even further. We took her to Care Vet (which btw, is amazing!) to get her checked out and apparently she needed a few shots that weren't administered by PWP. Not sure if this is standard protocol but seems a bit crazy to ask $300 for a dog that PWP had in their possession for 1 week, didn't spay, and apparently didn't give all of her shots. Within the first week of owning our dog, we noticed worms in her stools. At this point I was very frustrated. I explained that she was in heat, she had worms and we were frustrated. Laura then tells me that our dog gave birth to puppies (mind you she was only 8 months old at the time of adoption) and that's why she was bleeding. There's no way our dog gave birth - so I told her I think she was confusing our dog for a different dog (she later confirmed she did). Being a new dog parent is hard enough, but to have a dog in heat and with worms was even more overwhelming. We did not feel very supported by PWP through this process. Laura came off really cold Andrade me feel like I was upset for no reason. Here's a line from her email: "I'm sorry that this seems to have been a difficult adoption for you, we want our adopters and our pets to be happy together. If this is not the case, please make arrangements to return your new pet. I will make sure you receive your refund." Instead of being accountable for the issues we inherited and encouraging us through them, we were offered some generic message about a refund. Of course I didn't want a refund, I love my dog very much, and I have no regrets of overcoming everything we have together. The fact of the matter is that the prices and service are absolutely outrageous and I would never get another dog from PWP again. This makes me sad because I've been following PWP for a long time on social media and always said I'd get my dog from them someday. But I'll never recommend PWP to anyone, and I'll never get another animal from them again with this kind of practice. I will say the volunteers were all very sweet, especially Sarah, so that's why this is 2 stars instead of 1. TLDR: Be honest with your adopters. Respond with warmth and encouragement to their concerns, instead of a refund. Fact check before you follow up with concerned pet parents. Be more reasonable with your prices (a dog you had for a week and didn't get fixed really doesn't need a $300 price tag). If you really want these dogs to find homes, make it an affordable and attractive option for potential adopters.

I turned in my application for them and had to wait…read morealmost 2 weeks till I could adopt (they were waiting for owner to pick up but he never did). I called every day on them. The day I was to find out if I got them, they were not there. They claimed to have called me a few days prior but released them to pets without partners. I called them, told them what happened and was told I could adopt them but it was $300 per dog... it was $135 per dog at haven humane. So, I chose to get the female pug instead of both. Mind you, they had the dogs for 4 days at that point. Do they really deserve $300? (She did give 50$ off to get her fixed butI also gave a $150 deposit for getting her fixed within 30 days). But they didn't do anything to those dogs to deserve $300 a dog. I finally get the dog, she is filthy. Black on my hands from petting for her. Later that evening we go to bed, she wakes me at 2am to go potty. She poops and I see tape worms in it. Go to my bed, turn on the light and see them all in my bed! I look at her paper work, she was supposedly dewormed before hand. She also hand kennel cough, which I had the meds from them. My vet wouldn't fix her till after the 30 days due to her kennel cough and a few other issues. I informed the agency of that and she told me no. I would lose my $150 then... even though my vet said no. I cancelled my check. She did get fixed, just not when they wanted me to get her fixed. Both haven and pets without parents told me the dog was 3-4 years old... she was 9 years. Her teeth were rotten, had several pulled the first week of having her. The lady was so rude. I will NEVER recommend them or her. She is about the money not to save the animals. Between what her and haven humane did to me, I should have sued. I'm so mad I was lied to multiple times and I have a dog that will live a short time. I wouldn't change it because I have given her a wonderful life but mad that lady got the money for it. Erin was already pretty full but she drove 40 mins and took the pups in,vetted them, loved them and found them homes. Casa DeLove fights for the underdog, the abandoned, the unloved and I am amazed by their network and operations. They are a small non profit without huge sponsors and spend a lot of their own money saving dogs that were discarded.

I've been donating to Another Chance thrift shop for a couple years. The shop is run by volunteers…read moreand they do a good job of organizing what is donated. When the shop is full they don't always take donations so calling in advance and asking is best. I've never seen any animals at this location - like animals for donation - so there's no cat pee smell. They do have a nice section of almost new animal items - bowls, leashes, collars, beds. My understanding is proceeds go to support their animal adoption services. I think what they are trying to do reminds me of when Haven Humane was small out on Placer road. Another Chance is a nice alternative for a place to take donations and deserves a shot if you are looking to adopt.

I was indeed interrupting their computer time! These two need retrained on front desk proper protocol... I asked about dropping off two kitties that showed up and they bluntly told me there was a 3 month waiting list. No interest in me or my newly found kitties. When I asked what I could do they said don't feed them. WHAT!!! and yes I am yelling!!! Both kitties were already starving and just bones with skin. GET up out of your chair, walk over to me and smile, give a warm greeting, act like you care, volunteer info, Ask about the situation, don't make the customer drag it out of you!!! After all no one else was there, you had plenty of time to be kind, but No, I was interrupting you two on the same office computer, RUDE RUDE RUDE. Even if there was a computer glitch you were working on ONE of you should have stepped forward. No excuses. Computer at the front desks, I would think are for related work at the work place. If you are bored walk a dog, wash windows, sweep and mop or play with kittens, keep busy!! You I am sure are not paid to ignore patrons/customers while playing on the office computer! I really had to turn and just walk away at the insolence and entitlement they dishing out on me, and now I see poor treatment of others as I read yelp. Where is the suprivisor? I know 12 year olds that could have handled that office and my request much better and with a smile too! I realize that they couldn't take the kittens but to deliver the news in such a way, NEVER Again, don't walk, run from this place...That being said, Hubby and I adopted a 116 pound 8 month old dog over 15 years ago and she was one of the doggie loves our lives, 12 years we loved her, and the poeple that were there were the best! She looks SOOOOO MUCH BETTER! :) see photos attached below. Athena at all animal grooming, did not even clip her nails or clean her ears and left chunks of hair all over her body that she did not cut when grooming . We pay the full price of the grooming and didn't even get half of what we paid for by Athena at All Animal Grooming. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! I feel the owner should have been overlooking the situation with her employees. After all, it reflects Kathy's reputation. 10/23/2025 This review is not against the business. It is in regards to the groomer "Athena Leonetti Stella" VERY disappointed!!! Took our seven month old goldendoodle and for her second visit. Requested a specific haircut and gave Athena a picture that has instructions on what size clipper to use for different parts of the body. Athena was so convincing when talking to me that I trusted she knew what she was doing. WRONG!!!! Did not get what I asked for at all . My pup looked like a bobble head wearing socks. :( And when I asked the groomer what happened all she could say is she was wiggly. If a groomer cannot handle a wiggly dog, they shouldn't groom the dog and leave it to more experienced groomers. Going to all animal grooming is like going to a cheap haircut place where everybody rents their own booth and you never know what you're gonna get. I wish I would've known this before I went.
