Update: downgrading this to a 1 Star since Laura, the owner of PWP, voted this as "funny". I don't find it funny in the least that you overcharge for unhealthy dogs. We adopted our dog earlier this year and boy was it a wild ride for our first dog we've ever owned. I will say that I absolutely love our dog, she is the sweetest girl in the world and I wouldn't trade her for anything or anyone. I have no regrets in our decision to get her, but it was a rough Our dog was in heat when we got her. PWP said they only had her for a week and apparently they didn't have enough time to get her fixed. Part of our fees paid covered her spay, so we had an appointment scheduled with Haven. Haven called us a few days later to tell us there was a mix up in scheduling and we couldn't get her fixed on the appointment day PWP setup, so her surgery was pushed out even further. We took her to Care Vet (which btw, is amazing!) to get her checked out and apparently she needed a few shots that weren't administered by PWP. Not sure if this is standard protocol but seems a bit crazy to ask $300 for a dog that PWP had in their possession for 1 week, didn't spay, and apparently didn't give all of her shots. Within the first week of owning our dog, we noticed worms in her stools. At this point I was very frustrated. I explained that she was in heat, she had worms and we were frustrated. Laura then tells me that our dog gave birth to puppies (mind you she was only 8 months old at the time of adoption) and that's why she was bleeding. There's no way our dog gave birth - so I told her I think she was confusing our dog for a different dog (she later confirmed she did). Being a new dog parent is hard enough, but to have a dog in heat and with worms was even more overwhelming. We did not feel very supported by PWP through this process. Laura came off really cold Andrade me feel like I was upset for no reason. Here's a line from her email: "I'm sorry that this seems to have been a difficult adoption for you, we want our adopters and our pets to be happy together. If this is not the case, please make arrangements to return your new pet. I will make sure you receive your refund." Instead of being accountable for the issues we inherited and encouraging us through them, we were offered some generic message about a refund. Of course I didn't want a refund, I love my dog very much, and I have no regrets of overcoming everything we have together. The fact of the matter is that the prices and service are absolutely outrageous and I would never get another dog from PWP again. This makes me sad because I've been following PWP for a long time on social media and always said I'd get my dog from them someday. But I'll never recommend PWP to anyone, and I'll never get another animal from them again with this kind of practice. I will say the volunteers were all very sweet, especially Sarah, so that's why this is 2 stars instead of 1. TLDR: Be honest with your adopters. Respond with warmth and encouragement to their concerns, instead of a refund. Fact check before you follow up with concerned pet parents. Be more reasonable with your prices (a dog you had for a week and didn't get fixed really doesn't need a $300 price tag). If you really want these dogs to find homes, make it an affordable and attractive option for potential adopters. read more

November 2013, I found 2 pugs at haven humane. I turned in my application for them and had to wait almost 2 weeks till I could adopt (they were waiting for owner to pick up but he never did). I called every day on them. The day I was to find out if I got them, they were not there. They claimed to have called me a few days prior but released them to pets without partners. I called them, told them what happened and was told I could adopt them but it was $300 per dog... it was $135 per dog at haven humane. So, I chose to get the female pug instead of both. Mind you, they had the dogs for 4 days at that point. Do they really deserve $300? (She did give 50$ off to get her fixed butI also gave a $150 deposit for getting her fixed within 30 days). But they didn't do anything to those dogs to deserve $300 a dog. I finally get the dog, she is filthy. Black on my hands from petting for her. Later that evening we go to bed, she wakes me at 2am to go potty. She poops and I see tape worms in it. Go to my bed, turn on the light and see them all in my bed! I look at her paper work, she was supposedly dewormed before hand. She also hand kennel cough, which I had the meds from them. My vet wouldn't fix her till after the 30 days due to her kennel cough and a few other issues. I informed the agency of that and she told me no. I would lose my $150 then... even though my vet said no. I cancelled my check. She did get fixed, just not when they wanted me to get her fixed. Both haven and pets without parents told me the dog was 3-4 years old... she was 9 years. Her teeth were rotten, had several pulled the first week of having her. The lady was so rude. I will NEVER recommend them or her. She is about the money not to save the animals. Between what her and haven humane did to me, I should have sued. I'm so mad I was lied to multiple times and I have a dog that will live a short time. I wouldn't change it because I have given her a wonderful life but mad that lady got the money for it. DO NOT ADOPT A PET FROM PETS WITHOUT PARTNERS. We adopted an adorable dachshund from here a few weeks ago. The Pets Without Partners website claims "All of our pets come micro-chipped, vaccinations and a clean bill of health." Guess what. They lie. Our poor dog has tapeworms (they said they had dewormed him) and HEARTWORMS. Treatment for heart worms costs $800-$1500 and the "insurance" that he came with will not cover it. When we called Pets Without Borders we were told that they will cover the deductible of $75. Thanks. I'll see you guys in court. read more

Our family members have adopted 10 dogs from PWP, between 4 separate households. On the few occasions that we adopted a dog with kennel cough or other, Shelter born illness, PWP was quick to provide us with a visit to the vet and needed medication, at their cost. The post-adoption support has come in handy. Every time we had a question, one email, usually cleared it up and educated us, at the same time. We adopted our little Papillion/Dachshund named Dixie from PWP in February of 2018. She is the best dog ever!! In fact, we gave her the middle name of "Joy" because that is what she is. She loves her big sister Daisy and we are the happiest family. Thanks to PWP for rescuing so many dogs and finding great homes for them. Absolutely horrible. We adopted a dog that, later that day bit my son and a neighbor. We brought the dog back only to be ridiculed by this organization. They insisted over and over that it was our fault. They were extremely condescending and rude. Come to find out, the dog had a history of biting. Shame on them. Obviously we will never adopt an animal from them again. I understand that all dogs are different but I have to seriously question this organizations true motives and lack of concern for safety. read more

I have adopted a senior dog from PWP, my parents recently adopted a pup from PWP, they are all absolutely amazing, they have such compassion for these animals. I truly believe that this group means well, but based on our experience they are not organized enough to properly care for their animals. We adopted our puppy last month and our vet found two parasites in her system. We were told we would get 30 days of pet insurance, but when we contacted the insurance company we were told that this service was not available. We brought this up with Pets Without Partners, but they did not address it. Then we brought our girl in for her $20 parvo shot last weekend and later that week she came down with parvo. We believe she contracted parvo during that appointment because it was her only time out of the house and they admitted to having a parvo outbreak at that time. We notified them about this on Facebook, but they deleted my comment along with every other critical comment. I'm glad they are implementing parvo protocols now, but it's worrisome that they have been operating this long without them. If you adopt with this group do so with caution and get pet insurance! read more

I adopted a jack Russell mix from pets without partners, the dog is very timid, but that is generally expected from a shelter dog. I love him dearly. I agree with another review though they do not have a clean bill of health like you're promised. I am not sure if these animals contract these issues after their health treatment or what, but after 3 days after I adopted my dog I noticed blood in his stool and he ended up having a bacterial infection. Then, a week later we found that the dog had a parasitic infection, a different problem. Overall, I appreciate their mission but if you buy a dog from them be prepared for your animal to have health issues. read more

We adopted a puppy that I had seen on their website almost a year ago. She has been the sweetest addition. Puppies are all a lot of work. I feel PWP is doing their best to help these dogs, and I would recommend them without question. Of course I expected some hiccups, and the puppy chewed shoes, glasses, etc. But that is being a puppy. I am sorry some of you had a bad experience. Mine was simply wonderful. My Daisy Doodle is the most loving, playful little devil ever. Thank you Pets Without Partners. Given some of the puzzling experiences others have had here, I wanted to share that PwP was the rescue for my dog Emma, who we adopted nine years ago. First off, Laura was kind enough to let me come directly to her house to see the litter of puppies they had rescued. She gave me tons of time with all the dogs to decide which dog best matched my personality, and was kind and thoughtful throughout. Laura was conscientious and organized. She interviewed me thoroughly before approving me for adoption to make sure I had the maturity and knowledge needed to care for such a young dog. She inserted the microchip on the spot, and provided me with food, insurance information, chip registration info, and everything I needed to get started properly. She also followed up with me to make sure I had Emma spayed. I've stayed peripherally in touch with Pets Without Partners in the years since, making some small donations when they needed a little help, but mostly just enjoying the regular dose of adorable dogs with new homes. They've sent thousands of great pets home to new homes. They've worked tirelessly and with love. Most of us go about our business every day, only concerned for ourselves and our families (including furry members). Pets Without Partners brings new members to hundreds of families every year. They do it because they love animals, and they do it well. My dog is getting on in years, but I hope she still has a lot of time left in her. It's hard for my to put into words what she means to me, because my thoughts inevitably turn to the gray muzzle and the occasional aches and pains she shows us, and how they mean that she won't be with us forever. I will say this, though: this is the dog of my life. The dog of my life. If you've ever had a dog come into your life at just the right time, maybe you know what that means. Pets Without Partners brought her to me, and because of that, they will always be five star to me. read more

Unprofessional.. do not waste your time!! So here's my story... Yesterday I filled out an application with Pets Without Partners in an attempt to help my daughter get a puppy (as a birthday present from me). When filling out the app it asked for our "address" so as a long time resident of a community that doesn't recognize a physical address (Trinity County), I put in our PO Box number. My daughter is currently staying with her boyfriend at his mother's house but that is not my daughter's address of record. She gets mail at our house, she get packages at our house and our address is on her driver's license. She does not have a landlord and I did not mention what her current living arrangements were (because they don't ask that).. not to be deceptive but to be truthful.. because legally her address is our address. This application did not ask for her age and did not ask where she worked or even if she worked. My plan was to talk with my daughter's boyfriend's mother about letting her have the dog at her house while she is staying there. But by the time I spoke with her (an hour and half later) someone from PWP had already called her boyfriend's mom about the adoption (and of course she was caught off guard). Mind you, there is absolutely no record of my daughter staying at her boyfriend's house. And then this post was posted from Paula Carpenter (who on her personal FB page claims to be the president of this organization and in this post states that she is the Trinity County representative). (Original post written by Paula Carpenter to Trinity Pet Connection's page on FB.. grammatical errors and all, posted at approx. 6:41pm 6/19/19): "Just a little public service announcement. I am the Trinity County representative for Pets Without Partners. when an application comes in for one of our dogs from this area. It is sent to me. And I do my homework. if you send me an application with a post office box instead of a street address, I automatically reject it. I need a physical address for the microchip and to confirm home ownership if you claim to own. Then I send it over to my friends in real estate and they should do their checking in the site only real estate agents can go and they confirm whether you own the home or not. if you rent, I contact your landlord and make sure it's okay to have a dog. Then I need to see a copy of the contract that confirms that you can have a dog, what size you're limited to and if a deposit needs to be paid. and remember I usually know most of the people that you do too. We may be friends on Facebook I don't know. so if I find out that you're a 19 year old that works at Subway and lives with her boyfriend's mother. You're not getting one of my dogs. So save myself a lot of hassle and yourself as well and be truthful because one way or the other I'm going to figure it out" No one called my daughter and no one called me! They called my daughter's boyfriend's mom!! What?! Per Paula's post she goes through "real estate" connections to verify addresses BUT this is obviously untrue. Had she actually done her research through these channels she would have come up with me or my husband because we are the property owners that are associated with the PO Box given on the application.. not the mother of her boyfriend. So how did this woman whom I do not know, know all of my daughter's information? How old she was, where she worked, who her boyfriend's mother was and how to get ahold of the boyfriend's mother? Not by formal channels that much I can tell you!! And although this organization has every right to deny whomever they choose to deny, the character assassination was totally uncalled for! I mean, why? Why would an adult resort to high school teenager tactics to make a point on a social media platform..? This a small town and just putting the info that she did in her post was enough to make it obvious whom she was talking about. She should have just called and simply said I'm sorry but your application has been denied. I will never do business with a company that has someone like this representing them.. ever. read more

DO NOT ADOPT HERE! ***HORRIBLE ***They gave us a sick puppy that died 6 days after adoption.... They erase their bad reviews off their Fb page. We had a wonderful puppy. All of 6 days. She was adopted to us sick, coughing relentlessly. I texted them a couple of hours after taking her home telling them she wasn't well. No response. After two emergency vet visits later she wasn't getting any better. We didn't know it at the time but she was suffering from the respiratory form of parvo. Which we were told upon paying an insanely high adoption fee, she had all of her puppy shots except one last round. After finally getting a response from them (multiple attempts to notify them of the illness were not responded to until days later) We were contacted where they left a message and offered cough syrup, but we would have to go down to petsmart at a certain time to obtain it. We had already taken her to our vet the day prior because we couldn't stand her being in such a terrible state. Finally after several emails explaining the extent of the illness and that she was going to die, they finally offered to take her back and put her in their vets care. But this wasn't until after an emergency vet visit to Asher. After a few days of what they said was the best treatment, she didn't make it. She died a senseless death. If that puppy had been given the treatment it was supposed to have had it would've never been ill. Kennel cough is one thing, but parvo when they can get the first round of shots at 6 weeks? Not to mention the fact that that sweet little puppy was given to us ill! We are heartbroken to say the least. My kids FINALLY get their puppy only for her to die. It's a nightmare. I am just talking about this because we were giving Pets without Partners an opportunity to make it right. They refunded our adoption fee, but won't refund our vet costs. This organization irresponsibly adopts out puppy's and charges top dollar. They say they come with a clean bill of health which is part of the fee you pay. I equate what they do to flipping houses. Except for they flip puppies. They go to all these shelters and supposedly "save" 30 and 40 dogs and puppy's at a time. Then they bring them up to Redding and adopt out 20-30 at a time at petsmart. Who knows what kind of illnesses these poor little lives are getting exposed to. It makes me ill every time I even think of it! read more

I have always been an animal rescue supporter, however I WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT Pets Without Partners. We submitted an application on a puppy, received a confirmation email informing us that we were approved and the puppy would be held for us until 11am Saturday morning as long as we paid the $100 refundable deposit. No issue there, but after sending a response email inquiring about the SECOND puppy we also wanted to adopt, we were told that puppy had already been adopted. We were then informed that in order to keep the reservation on the puppy we received an approval email for, we had to pay $400 in full due to "high demand". When mentioning that our approval email stated a $100 deposit, Laura (a rescue representative) was rude, and unprofessional. She then stated that we either pay the $400, or the dog would be given to another applicant. We proceeded to pay the initially stated deposit of $100 to then be told the dog had already been given to another adopter! We went to PetSmart this morning (where the rescue is holding an adoption event) to continue discussion on the matter. Multiple people within the rescue organization were extremely dismissive and disrespectful, and we have yet to receive a refund on our deposit. As a family, we were ready to pay $800 to support the rescue, and this is how we are treated? I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

I will never use Pets without Partners again. While I believe their overall goals are admirable, they sincerely lack in actually taking care of the animals. Just like they stress on the adopting families, if you cannot properly care for the animal, don't take it on! I would like this same advice given to them. We adopted an Anatolian Shepherd puppy on 1/23/16 and by day 9 we found out she had 2 different types of parasites AND an upper respiratory infection...all of which she gave to our 2 year old German Shepherd. Because it was after the 7 day period, PWP state they cannot help me financially. Our vet costs are around $500 in addition to the $350 adoption fee (though I am not sure what I even paid a fee for, they clearly did not care for this pup). When they emailed me back, they said these illnesses were "very common"....but if they are so common why did their trained staff not catch this? I imagine the entire litter of 5 Anatolian Shepherds all have these same issues as well. read more

On September 9, 2017 we adopted a puppy that was 3 months old from Pets Without Partners. After getting him home we noticed him coughing. On Monday we took to our vet where he was diagnosed with kennel cough and treated for fleas because he had so many. I notified Pets Without Partners of this so they could watch their other puppies. On Thursday night our puppy started acting not well so I took him in again to our vet on Friday where he was put on a stronger antibiotic. Saturday we took him to VCA Asher Animal Hospital in Redding where he was diagnosed also with parvo. When I emailed Laure at Pets Without Partners she responded that he hadn't gotten parvo from them but my vet and VCA both said that the incubation period would be that he had contracted it when he was with them. Laure offered to pay us $50 for treating the kennel cough but when I emailed her back the actural cost of the bill and asking for a refund of our adoption fee she stopped emailing me. Our puppy was at VCA hospital for a week where unfortunately he died from parvo. My heart in writing this is to prayerfully save another family from this heartbreak. VCA stated they have had other pets from Pets Without Partners with either parvo or other diseases they have treated. Please be very careful before adopting from them. read more
