Ok...this was a difficult one...the place, the atmosphere..all amazing! It's a beautiful vinoteca in Williamsburg with a great owner and all-round attentive staff. The owner let's you try multiple wines ...and that's where the problem starts...none of the wines are actually great, but are incredibly pricey. Averaging somewhere around $17 a glass (!!!) You'd expect something fab. So after 2-3 pours of avrg quality Italian wines (and being European myself I know) you feel so guilty you just decide on one. The dishes are not cheap either, and tho I agree the quality and flavors are better than your avrg Italian restaurant, it's simply way way way too overpriced for what you get. read more

Went back on July 20 for wine with local friends. Basically it was a hot summer night and the wine wasn't stored properly. It came out very hot and the and did not taste good at all. I asked for the boldest wine they had and the bill came to $20 for the one glass. No matter what the price red and white wine needs to be stored at the proper temperature. I tried to reach out to the restaurant before writing this and they did not respond. read more

Service here was very friendly and ambiance was nice but unfortunately the cocktails were terrible. The old fashioned with prosciutto was one of the worst I've had. It seemed like they tried to make up for the drink with the meat but the combination was even worse. My friend tried a cocktail with the orange wine which was also barely drinkable. Painfully slow service. Drinks took 10 minutes to come out. Olives took 30 minutes, when they did come out there was literally 6 olives, for $7. Check took another 10 minutes after asking for it twice. We came here for dinner but we couldn't wait another hour plus for our meal. OVERPRICED Very disappointed. I'm an Italian guy, I've been living in New York for 11 years and working in the restaurant business for 15 years so I can recognize when I get scammed. Great service, Carlos the waiter was very professional and friendly in taking our order and I was very happy at first sight. The spot is cozy and well cured in all the details with the authentic Italian style touch. The location is just a few steps away from the busy Bedford Avenue. I've ordered a glass of red wine Valpolicella and a "tagliere" of cured meat and cheeses. Here comes the bad part: a "tagliere" is a "tagliere" everywhere you go and should consist of a cured meat selection (prosciutto cotto, prosciutto crudo, salame, soppressata, bologna etc.) and cheeses, olives and whatever the chef's fantasy can think of. This tagliere was supposed to serve 2 people as specified by the menu and THE PRICE but the portion was so tiny that could barely satisfy a little girl. It literally consisted of 3 slices of bread, 4 slices of bologna (the cheapest between the cured meats) and 3 tiny peaces of cheese. On top of that the bill came out to be $70 (tip included). I don't mind paying an expensive bill if I am satisfied when I leave the table but this wasn't the case. I won't go back and I definitely don't recommend it. read more

Guys, these are the perfect gnocchi puffs I could write about the wine, or the olive oil, or the staff, all phenomenal But instead- and I've been to plenty a fancy Italian meal- these gnocchi are perfect. Gives you the impression of melting in your mouth without doing so. Truffle butter that isn't obstructive, or overwhelming, but perfect. Perfect salt. Perfect pepper. I would eat this weekly. Have & Meyer is a truly special place to visit in Williamsburg. The atmosphere is enchanting, friendly and attentive service, highest quality of both food and wine. And what a wine list they have. Probably the largest selection of "Orange" wines by the glass you will find in NYC. I love their uncompromising approach to serving food and drinks with only the very best ingredients available. The prosciutto and cheese were amazing as a appetizer for two. The Tonnarelli alla carbonara was the best I've ever had. Along with any wine from their great selection it was a awesome meal. if i could give this place more stars i would. the food is always otherworldly with its freshness and flavor. i went with my partner for an anniversary dinner and spent more than 2 hours eating and downing a beautifully rich bottle of wine. daniela and manuel (i think that's his name!) were a dream. they're super nice and were cracking jokes and made sure we were taken care of. honestly it's so amazing to be served by such gems. daniela suggested the wine and we are so happy we picked it. i highly recommend the burrata is you want something to start off. also: try making reservations because it gets packed and sometimes people take a little longer during dinner when there are people waiting ((we stayed longer because there was literally no one in the restaurant since it was a late sunday night)). read more

Do not go for the food nor the old fashioned. We ordered the special (Cacio Pepe) and the Trofie pesto. Both pastas were unevenly cooked. The cacio tasted like an over salted Alfredo tv dinner. Made a reservation to come on a Friday night. Despite showing up on time, wasn't properly seated until 20 minutes later. Not a big deal since it's a tiny venue and I understand that restaurants can't perfectly forecast when people come and go. But what they do have under their control is service - in this instance, the better question is: what service? Not once did the waiter come by to take our order, check in on us, offer us water, really any of the standard service you would expect from the most basic of restaurants. To top it all off, this restaurant is extremely overpriced - ended up running $70 prior to tip and tax for a basic cheese plate and two glasses of orange wine. Not sure what exactly I was paying for, given all of the above. We left 30 minutes in and went to Fette Sau across the street for some barbecue, so the night wasn't a complete bust, but it was definitely a mistake to come here. Cute place but upon asking the bartender about 2 wines I was interested in ($13 a glass), he said he would let me try 2 in the same price range that were more similar to a full bodied wine. Decided on one and when the bill came the wine ended up being $25 for the glass. Honestly, I felt a little conned and taken advantage of because This was close to double what I was intending on spending. I could have double checked the price before drinking the wine, but when he said it was comparable I assumed at most it would be $15. Probably won't be returning. Service, atmosphere, drinks and decor get 5/5. Unfortunately, we didn't have a great meal here. We shared the tuna tartare to start and while fresh, it had an excessive amount of pesto and was not worth the $18 we paid. For mains, I had the risotto which was the special for the evening, it had the texture of undercooked rice and fell short of expectations. My fiancé had a ragu pasta dish, it came out cold and was also undercooked with very little sauce/ meat. Staff are great though, we'll likely be back to try more of their wine menu read more

So the story for us was the same as many of the other negative reviews. We asked for guidance on the wine and were given a glass wine that was more than double the price of the average price on the list which we weren't informed of in advance. When I asked for the price if we moved to a bottle - which we considered - I was told that she had to check because it wasn't in the list they hand out; a "special bottle" we were told. It was more than double anything on the list which I only found out after it was poured by the glass. This isn't outright theft, but seems a breach of trust when asking for guidance. Dinner for four was almost $500 dollars with only three of us drinking wine. What else did we get besides the wine? Four plates of pasta and a shared plate of three cheeses and one meat - all of which was just good; nothing fantastic. I can't in good conscience go back, nor recommend this place.... aaannd now a comment response with fictional account of the wine interaction, not to mention some odd check accounting - an $80 tip - bringing the check to a total of? Almost $500 which I stated above. The tip (a generous one as I didn't think it fair to punish servers who didn't do the the wine recommendation) is part of a customer's spend at s restaurant last I checked. A bold, but untoward defense in my view. The dry, panettone was gratis. My oversight. The bread you listed wasn't. How much was the water? I forgot to mention that I drank water as well. Their version of the wine story is a fiction- we asked for help with wine selection and were explicit about a lack of familiarity with their list. Even the claim about the wine being unique is easily revealed to be false... not that I know, but google does. Sigh. read more

Love this place! My husband and I love going to try new boutique organic wines that are offered by the glass (score!) and there ever changing menu of traditional yet sophisticated plates. They use a lot of local high quality ingredients and always refer to them on the menu. The owner is very warm and always willing to explain the wines and their origin making the experience even better. Great spot for chilly nights and great conversation too. read more

Fantastic place. Apparently we only choose the best places in NY to eat at. We came here right before we walked over to the TriBeCa Film Festival. We got several of the whiskey cocktails (all are delicious and very strong), the burrata and a dozen oysters on the half shell. The flavors and quality of the food were fantastic and the service was good. It's a bit pricey and the place is always packed but the food and drinks were superb! We will be back. read more

The vibe is very casual, and the staff is super friendly, Italian style. Just a few high marble counter top tables with stools inside. The service is a little bit slow, but they also don't push you to order. I was 20 min late, but they gave my friend the table while he waited. 2 stars for that. And then it comes the food and the price. For an Italian cantina, the food was average, the portions small and the price excessive. Wine is ridiculously expensive here, the cheapest bottle is 60 something, and then you have to go up, like a $85 for a Barolo. I know you get your gain over the alcohol, and the wine list is all organic and whatever, but this is just too much for a small bar in east Williamsburg. We had a small plate of charcuterie, just a few slices of prosciutto and a small piece of cow cheese, nothing special, you can get better prosciutto at your local deli. That was $28. We shared the octopus (it was good) and the gnocchi; it was ok. 4 glasses of Barolo, tip and the check was a rounded $200. And because we were on the table in the middle and we were 2, they used our counter top to leave others table's bottles and small dishes. I mean, I'm totally cool with that, and I prefer a relaxed vibe over a tablecloth restaurant. But It's not cool to charge like it's a fancy and expensive restaurant when you're not at all. A couple of weeks ago I went to Baboo on WV and I spent exactly the same for one of the most amazing dinners in my life and I ordered more food with a bottle of wine. I would often be coming to H&M if it were half of the price, like all the places around east W with the same vibe. read more
