We came in yesterday for some brunch. We had a 40 minute wait, but this was good for us so that we could walk around and enjoy the Ballard Farmer's Market! They were great in communication with us-it was easy for us to watch our seating status while we shopped. We sat outdoors and had a great time. I enjoyed the Five Alarm Mary (Bloody Mary), which was the spiciest Bloody Mary they had to offer, and it really hit the spot. It came with a peppercini, okra and an olive. It was so good and fresh. I also enjoyed a plain hamburger. Their fries had amazing seasoning on them! And they cooked my burger to perfection (for me, a medium rare). They 100% nailed the food. Our waitress was delightful and we had a good experience. My only suggestion for them to make them a five star experience for me-I wish that their cocktail menu had more variety. Nothing wrong with Bloody Marys or mimosas of course, but I would love to see some tequila drinks, as well as more options for not too sweet cocktails. I normally love Hattie's! I was born in Ballard and I've lived here my whole life, so Hattie's has always been a friendly face to me. Me and my boyfriend went to eat today (Sunday after the market), kind of a late breakfast, and our waitress seemed very annoyed and unhappy when taking our order. My boyfriend's food arrived cold and underdone. I ordered the pancakes, which the first few bites were good, but in the middle there were pieces of raw, wet dough. I've included a picture of the raw dough. I'll definitely be back at Hattie's for late night drinks, but probably not for brunch again. read more

The hollandaise was the best I have ever had and I've order a ton of Bennie's. A friend had the biscuits and gravy and added scrambled eggs under the gravy and that plate was cleaned!!! I hate to leave a negative review for a beloved local spot, but we recently came here for a late breakfast and as soon as the food arrived, I contemplated paying but leaving without eating. Sadly, we stayed. I had the breakfast sandwich, which is usually a sure thing at most places. In fact, it was recommended to me over the breakfast taco by the nice server. It comes smothered in their (mediocre) gravy and absolutely inedible chicken sausage. Even the biscuit was bad. My son, who is only in town for a while, ordered the eggs Benedict. Food was Soo good and affordable. On Sunday thier fried chicken dinner is 11 dollars which is a steal. A huge piece of juicy fried chicken with the yummiest gravy. The creamy spinach side dish was delicious and the coselaw was very good too. Im not crazy for gravy over chicken and loved it. Surprisingly delicious food! Stopped by for lunch and sat outside with the table heater. Our waitress was very friendly. We started off with a pitcher of blushing mimosas, which has pineapple juice and grenadine- delicious! and a pitcher was enough for 4 of us to have a full drink and a little extra. For food, I ordered the grownup grilled cheese, the grilled onions were an amazing addition! I also ordered a side of the house made pimento cheese and wow, absolutely delicious. and fantastic to dip the drilled cheese into! Food: I got their farm house biscuits and gravy (half order, vegetarian) and order of hash browns. It was good and filling! They were a little limited on savory vegetarian options but it was so happy to hear they had a veggie gravy. Ambiance: this place gives such warm, midwestern diner vibes! It felt comforting and made me really happy. It was dimly lit and cozy. Great spot for large groups as well as 1-2 person meals as well. If I loved closer this would be a post night out spot. Food is good, service was mediocre but what irritated me was they started charging $1 surcharge if you use your credit card. I'm sick and tired of getting nickelled and dimed to death. This place is a fantastic stop if you're coming through Ballard, especially during happy hour. Not much on the drink front but the wings I ate off the happy hour menu are the charts. The bartender on a Wednesday afternoon was great and well attentive, his whiskey sours were to die for. Made with real egg whites and it felt like I was making a well crafted whiskey drink as opposed to 90% of the cars in the region. My wife and I both had to have 2! We ordered the happy hour wings and ended up ordering a 2nd order because they were so good and only $6.50 for 6 (and they were meaty). The solo rib in the happy hour menu was mids at best, I smoke a lot of my own meat at home so maybe I'm biased?! Give this place a shot. They even have little mini fire pits that are so darned cute. I love that with the dinners you get two sides - my all time favorite has to be collard greens. Yum. Yum. Yum. I've had their meatloaf (not on Thursday nights) many times and each time I have it, I wonder why I don't come here on Thursdays for when it's $12. What a deal!!! I'd probably pass on the chicken fried steak from here on out and I can't tell if this particular plate was just way over-fried to oblivion. But I'm telling you the meatloaf makes up forever that near cardboardy piece. Drinks are divey and I just love that. While we were there enjoying our delicious cocktails and tots in the heated outdoor tent, the staff had to deal with a very non-compliant "Karen" and you handled it with much more grace than I could have. Since she was yelling about Yelp, I am proactively telling anyone reading a future comment about a woman, her party of NINE during a pandemic, and her Bloody Mary, that Karen was 100% cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. This was my second visit to this restaurant, and it was abysmal. We had to park a bit away because of the farmers market no big deal, and we got seats right away in the bar. The food that we ordered came within five minutes, in my estimation, everything must've been precooked and sitting on the flat top. Nothing had any flavor at all. No amount of salt, pepper or hot sauce would've made this better I was so disappointed. The service was nice, that's why they deserve one star and I appreciate the bartender but the food was really super bad. I left my entire meal on the table and was not asked why I didn't want a box. If your customer eats absolutely nothing of their food, it seems like it would make sense to ask why. At any rate I'm sorry I'm not going back. read more

I've stopped here pre-COVID and always enjoyed their brunch, so I was glad to see that they're continuing to churn out tasty food and beverages out front. There are only three picnic tables currently, so there may be a bit of a wait if you come at a busy time. Service has always been fast and friendly.
