This time I'd just finished a super savory lunch and wanted something sweet, saw a cheesecake egg roll on the menu, and the place finally got me. It was fantastic. Crispy shell, creamy filling, exactly the sweet finish I was after. It's pricey, but that's downtown Auburn for you, and I'd pay it again. The environment was okay. It's geared towards the majority crowd here and that's college students and that's okay. Just don't expect a quiet lunch if that's what you're after. To be clear, the egg roll is all I had, so I can't speak to the rest of the menu yet. That's the plan for next time, and I'm excited to work through it. Nothing here gave me a reason to dock more than one, so four stars it is. Blow my pants off with the main menu and we'll talk about that fifth star.

The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and exactly what fried chicken is supposed to be. Then the sides started showing off. The Navy beans were ridiculously good, the wedged fries disappeared faster than they should have, and the cheese biscuits made me seriously question why regular biscuits even bother showing up anymore. Then came the banana pudding. At that point, any thoughts of moderation had officially left the building. But the bartender deserves special recognition. We somehow ended up with a concoction of spiked slushies that were cold, delicious, creative, and dangerously good. I'm not entirely sure what was in all of them, but after a couple, I was prepared to trust the bartender with most major life decisions. Great chicken. Great sides. Great drinks. Great atmosphere. Waldo's, you had me at fried chicken, but the cheese biscuits and boozy slushies sealed the deal.

Point-of-Sale Tipping: Yes Price for Two: Approximately $40, including a point-of-sale tip Delivery: Food is brought to your table when ready. Condiment Bar: No Food: Really good overall. We had two three-piece chicken plates--one OG and one Spicy. The OG chicken was noticeably crispier. Our sides included rice, fries, pickles, and coleslaw. Everything was good, but the fresh pickles provided an especially nice contrast to the chicken, rice, and fries. The coleslaw had a pleasant sesame oil flavor, though, as with any creamy coleslaw, it's a bit of a roll of the dice, so I didn't eat much of it. The ranch served with the chicken seemed to be homemade--the thinner, more flavorful style rather than a thick bottled dressing. I was also curious to try some of the other sauces and dressings on the menu. Beverages: Coke products, plus some of the best proprietary teas I've had at a counter-service restaurant. The Sweet Almond Peach Tea was outstanding. Special Touches: Pickles served as a garnish and chopsticks available on the table. Portions: What you'd expect from a higher-end counter-service restaurant--filling enough to leave you satisfied, but not overly stuffed. Spice Level: The Spicy chicken had a noticeable kick but was still on the milder side in terms of heat. Service: Friendly, approachable, and efficient. Clean-Up: Leave dishes on the table for staff to clear. Parking: Shared with neighboring restaurants but plentiful. It can be a little convoluted to access from the main road.
