The customer service is absolutely awful. I work at a nearby community center and came in just wanting to share a flyer of our free and convenient resources and the woman who attended me made me feel like a total fool! We spoke different standards of Armenian (eastern/ western) and rather than ask me to slow down or repeat myself, she told me to speak Armenian? So rude. I wouldn't recommend this place to non-Hayastanci's to be honest. read more

Cue the Twilight Zone theme folks. This place has had me completely baffled and yet somehow strangely intrigued. Upon moving to Glendale I'd decided to get to know the area and what better way to do so than with food? Well known for it's large Armenian community I decided this fare to be the best bet in proximity. Hatsatoun was on my radar and one rather lovely Southern California day I decided to check it out. With a bounce to my step and smile to my face I walked in from the street... and it was so dark it took a minute for my eyes to adjust. When they did, eight rather swarthy gentlemen were gathered around a table, the only patrons. They all turned in unison and I had a feeling I'd just walked into an episode of The Sopranos, Armenian style. Being alone and incredibly intimidated I quickly asked for a take-out menu and bolted out of the bat-cave, never to return. Passing it almost everyday, I wonder how it's stayed in business for so long and yet I never see anybody walking in or out of it. Perhaps one of these days I'll have enough gumption to endeavor another stab at it. They have apparently just re-modeled. read more

This is an exotic upper-tier and truly armenian experience in Glendale. The owners who are from Yerevan, greet you by first name. The decor is a modern hut, call it a stone and tiled backyard with a hut and a disco ball in the middle of the dinng room. When we visited, there were a bunch of people having a good time singing russian karaoke tunes... exotic alright... now on to the food, authentic armenian flavours in the bbq meats, very tangy tomatoe and cuccumber salad, thinly slices potatoe side and the bread, definitely different. Very unique and a must visit experience while in the greater Los Angeles area! read more

It was ok, I came here for my first time eating Russian food, I had borscht, tan and beef stroganoff. The Borscht was good!! ESPECIALLY with the sour cream that is given to you. The Stroganoff was odd..It did not even seem like it was stroganoff, because it was covered in fries. I did not like the orange sauce and onions that were in it either, I must say it was NOT worth $15. The Tan drink is like a saltyish sour cream drink that was hard to take down the first few sips, but I keep craving it, I am sure it will be a new favourite drink of mine. There are downsides: The waiter (I am also sure he was the owner) could not speak english that well, maybe only well enough to take our order. When you first walk in, it makes you think you stepped into a latin restaurant. The music when I went there....sounded like some stereotypical middle east music. read more

DISGUSTING SERVICE!!The staff was very unprofessional and rude. The staff also made rude comments toward the guests and tried to make their own decisions, although they were being told otherwise. The portions of the food was too little compared to the price that we paid. They wanted everyone to finish as soon as possible so we could leave because they just didn't want to serve. I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant on Saturday, December 14th. Wow, the service was top notch and great! The food was even better from the selection of appetizers such as the eggplant salad to the different kabobs we ordered...every bite was delicious. And the roasted potatoes are to die for ... that delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return!!! I would not recommend this place to anyone. We had a party of 35 people there, and their service was terrible. They charged us a lot compared to the food we were served. We ate xash that was average, followed by BBQ that was too salty and the portion was too little compared to the price we paid. I would recommend to do better research before you organize parties in this place. Very unprofessional and poor service and management, and very rude waiters. The best I can say about this restaurant was it was air conditioned, food was served hot, it was clean, the music was nice, the table linens were clean. The decor was difficult to place maybe a Russian farm village? But interesting to look at. I was the only customer (that should have been a sign). I ordered the chicken kabobs with fried potatoes it was passable at best. Very under seasoned and very oily. I ordered hot tea with my meal the tea was good, but the non communicative waiter looked at my like I had two heads. Even came back to ask if I wanted it with my meal??? Room temperature stale bread was on the table nothing to top it with, no butter or olive oil. I had to ask for water and was served only one glass with no refill on my water or my tea. No tea bag or extra hot water. The prices were high especially for the quaintly of what was served. The waiter was not friendly. He never said hello, didn't ask if I needed anything, and didn't say thank when I left. Like I was interrupting his day. No I won't be returning. read more

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences - Our party of 5 entered the restaurant at 430. The door was wide open, and the OPEN sign was on. The waitress looked at us with a bewildered and annoyed expression, as if we had interrupted something. Picking up on this non- verbal cue, I asked her if the restaurant was open. She nodded. As we went in there were 4 or 5 people eating at the only occupied table at the restaurant. Since nobody had asked us to sit, I asked again if they were open. One of the men at the table replied, "Can't you see, we are eating!?". I smiled and said, "Are you the owner?" He nodded affirmatively. While I kept standing along with my husband and kids, the guys at the table kept on eating and ignoring us. Finally, I said, "Is this a joke?" The same guy replied that they were eating, and needed a little time. Obviously, we had left. This disrespectful treatment of the customer is so bad, that it is almost surreal. I have never experienced anything like that in my life. In the car, my husband commented that the owner must be very rich to treat his customers this way. As a fellow Armenian, I am embarrassed on the owner's behalf. The bottom line- there are many good Armenian restaurants in Glendale, so don't go to a place where the owner is busy stuffing his mouth, instead of treating his customers. read more

This place is as authentic as it gets if you are talking about Armenian cuisine from Armenia. I went there for the first time with my boyfriend and a friend, and the second time with my boyfriends family. Both times everyone at the table agreed how delicious the food was. We get the barbeque (it's Armenian style) usually beef and chicken and only a couple of appetizers because they bring fresh bread, cheese, vegetables. The the barbecue is incredible. This place is definitely a nice sit down place, with friendly service. Since I live in the OC all by my Armenian lonesome, i have to drive a ways to eat Armenian cuisine and this place is definitely worth the drive for me. I do have one word of caution, not all American traditions have transfer ed over to this restaurant, one being the waitress who had been very super duper nice the whole time hung over my boyfriend's head as he was signing the credit card statement and trying to tip her. Kinda awkward! I just chose to call it a cultural miscommunication. read more

Great, authentic food. Yum!!! Some people mistake the Beef Stroganoff dish with the more popularized one. At this place it is the original Russian version of sautéed pieces of beef in a sour cream sauce, topped with fried potato pieces, and fresh parsley. read more

been here several times with my armenian buddy. an elder man. every time there's some old school men's club having some sort of private social while we get a table to ourselves in one of the wings. food is fantastic. and the armenian vodka is smooth stuff. enough to through over my shoulder for friends long past. i can eat just the appetizer plates with the flatbread, armenian salty cheese, herbs and all, and the pickles! but the meats are perfectly grilled and the service is quite friendly and businesslike. there's something about armenians very similar to koreans. smoking in restaurants included. read more

Yes, this is a real Armenian restaurant, beautifully decorated like a dark cave where you can forget the world outside. It is run by real Russian Armenians, and patronized primarily by other Armenians. As a non-Armenian, I had the opportunity to experience Hatsatoun through a very unusual encounter--members of my group of friends saved the life of the owner's son after a terrible car accident in summer, 2011, which occurred late at night in front of a house where we had been attending a party. To thank us for our good deed, the family hosted an all-afternoon Armenian BANQUET/multi-course FEAST that was beyond incredible. Obviously this isn't something a regular patron would experience, but assume some of the dishes do appear on the regular menu. Everything they prepared and served was authentic and delicious--roasted fish, lamb several ways (which even I had to taste, though I don't normally eat meat!), bowls of awesome hummus, eggplants and other vegetables, plenty of vodka and wine and I wish I could remember everything else. We finished the evening with music and dancing and lots of gratitude all around--and felt we'd really bridged a cultural gap between our group of Westerners and this Armenian family. I am planning to arrange for another group of foodie friends to visit this restaurant again soon. If you can get past the divide, I think you will be well-rewarded. read more

Best place to have a birthday party if you have a small ground of around 20 people. Any other Armenian restaurant I called doesn't offer live music on weekdays and for almost the same menu they charge almost double. So why pay more when you can go to this awesome place, eat delicious food (much better than most Armenian restaurants), turn on your own music and have tons of fun. read more
