Myself and two friends went to the Restaurant today as one of my friends recommended it to me, we got there for approximatly 1230hrs , on entering through the main doors i was very much reminded of the entrance to the caves in Hastings, it was to say the least quite dark, after waiting for about 2 minutes a young lady approached and asked how many of us there were, and on my telling her 3 she then escorted us to a table near the back and to the side picking up 3 very large menu cards as we went .
the young lady who was very polite then told us where the salad bar was and that we could eat as much as we liked, we then scrutinised the menu, i was looking for a nice home cooked meal and was very surprised to see that nearly everything on the very large menu was based around grill food, there was no steak and kidney , stew and dumplings, things that you would expect to see in a restuarant that is called THE HARVESTER, anyway we settled for 2 mixed grills, and a barbecued chicken meal, cost for 3 meals approximatly £28, not bad i thought, that was untill the meals turned up, i in my time have eaten a lot of mixed grills but i can honestly say that this mixed grill was without doubt the worse i have ever had the misfortune to have , the meal consisted of ..peas, 3 onion rings, 1/2 a tomatoe, mash potatoe that i asked for, little portion of Dianna Sauce, 1 sausage and to top it off 3 different peices of meat .. steak, gammon, chickenthe smallest peices of meat that i have ever seen,it looked as if each peice had been carefully measured, the steak and gammon peices were approximatly 2inches x 3inches, certainly no bigger than that, in fact i think the sausage was slightly bigger, the chicken peice was a bit bigger but it was also uncooked it just did not look right at all , after contemplation i built up enough courage to call the waitress as she passed, and i informed her that there was a chicken problem, the nice polite lady appolagised and took the chicken from me and said she would get it changed, which she did, and brought me back another peice that looked no better, in the meantime another young very polite lady came to me and informed me that there had been several complaints made in regards to the chicken and that it was a new product and they were not using any more of it and that she was going to deduct the cost of my meal from the bill, very nice, the bill when it came (minus my meal cost ) was approximatly £23, and as i always tip, i gave the very nice polite waitress a large tip after all it was not her fault that the meal was a disaster. Summing Up GOOD POINTS Location very nice indeed, Staff very polite, Salad bar, Service very good, problem dealt with adequatly and quickly.. BAD POINTS.Quite dark inside, No quiet background music, and portion sizes of especialy the mixed grill, the mixed grill costs nearly £12 and the actual food on the large plate could have cost in total no more that £4, that really needs adjusting. As things stand i would not go back to the Harvester Restaurant or recommend it to anyone unless there was a dramatic change in the choice on the menu.not every one especialy elderly people are great lovers of mixed grills, and if you took away the grilled food from the Harvester Restaurant, there would be very little if anything other than salad that would be left on the very large menu cards.. read more
