Five star in context. Either takeout or sidewalk al fresco, I was never disappointed, perhaps…read morebecause I've always chosen the spiciest dishes (shrimp fra diavolo, etc.) Freshly made sangria a nice touch too. Friendly and quick staff. The kind of small family-run place the world needs more of. Great prices too, at least by US standards. I'm an American who lived in Eastbourne 2019-2020, and returned with my adult son on a visit in 2022, happy to see Torero's survived the pandemic. Food just as great. One of the first places I'll go when I visit again. Is it London? No. (Pro tip: "Eastbourne" is spelled differently...) Know going in the Terminus Road area does have the occasional sketchy character especially after dark - situational awareness, people.

I agree with the first reviewer in many ways, and I doubt this place will last. The food was…read moresub-standard...tapas is usually extremely flavorful, and everything we ordered was essentially tasteless. We ordered paella and were told it would take 45 minutes. No problem...it's paella! But 1.5 hours later, we were still waiting for our food and nothing arrived until we complained about the wait. We were completely ignored the whole time. When the paella finally came, it was the worst I'd had in a restaurant. My paella is nothing to write home about, and yet I would have done a better job in my own kitchen. So, I would recommend taking a hard pass on this place, especially since the street offers so many other places to eat.

Family owned and operated, the service is excellent and you're made to feel one of the family. The food, the portions, all generous for being a tapas restaurant. So skillfully prepared and delicious. Our group ordered squid (fresh and tender), the cheese plate, auburgine (fried with a sweet sauce drizzled on top) , fried potatoes, meatballs, exquisite anchovies, salad and an omelette. Everything was superb. Highly recommend the churros for dessert (to die for!) My sister lives in Maidstone and I am just visiting but l would definitely return on a future trip. This place is not to be missed.

When we first arrived, I was a bit shocked to find an Asian buffet restaurant to co-share the building. But the two were completely separate from a floor and the balcony in the middle was covered to avoid any smell coming upstairs. The place is very simple in its decoration, but of course I'm not here to judge the designer rather than the food which was marvellous. The owner, Clara, is a real Spanish coming from Andalusia, and she manages the restaurant with her family only. We had several tapas, followed by a generous portion of paella, all watered by a jug of sangria. I can only recommend Clara and her place La Taberna.
