Within the first 5 mins of sitting down for a "consultation", I was told I have frizzy puffy hair in the back, and I needed a perm asap. This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I used to come often but my hair stylist is no longer here, I got a haircut recently and tried a new stylist Ara. I haven't cut my hair in 6 months and I have really long straight natural hair so you can say it is a blank canvas. This is probably one of the worst haircut I have gotten in years compared to other places that are in different price ranges. Leaving the salon it looked good styled but when I went home to wash it and had more time to look without it curled I saw really choppy layers and the length is much shorter than i wanted. For a cut I paid $107-110 not including tips and expected a decent cut for that amount. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months. The loose curl perm is the pic I provided and this is what I got. I asked Brian to fix it and all he could do was down perm the sides some more to make it look less like an Afro shape...he let me know this is exactly how the cut is with the picture provided. It was too late to fix anything since he already cut my hair like the one "pictured". I went to this salon for a haircut with Nicole. While I can acknowledge that she has technical skills, the overall experience left me feeling disappointed and overlooked. Unlike how I've seen her interact with other Korean clients--taking time to consult and understand their hair needs--Nicole skipped any consultation with me entirely. She sent me straight to the washing station without even looking at my dry hair or asking what kind of haircut I wanted. That initial lack of communication set the tone for the rest of the appointment. I also noticed that she didn't treat the Spanish assistants with much respect, which was uncomfortable to witness and gave the place a negative atmosphere. To top it off, I was initially told the haircut would be $100 plus tip, but at checkout, I was charged $120 before tip--with no explanation. I paid the full amount plus gratuity, but walked away feeling taken advantage of. In short, while the cut itself was fine, the experience felt impersonal, uncomfortable and left me with a bad taste. I called to book a women's haircut appointment for a week later. I was the closing appointment, so I was asked to pay upfront for the haircut ($100 by credit card). At the end, I paid tip by Venmo. I was taken to a hair washing station, which was relaxing and took about 5 minutes. Then, I sat in a chair while my stylist finished with the previous client. Meanwhile, my hair was blow-dried. This took around 15 minutes. I asked my stylist what cut would look best, and it was essentially a shorter version of what I currently had (some layers + thinning + face-framing layers). The cut took around 25 minutes. To be honest, I had a good experience and like the cut, but I was a little offput by asking to pay at the beginning and wish that there was a difference in cost for length of hair / type of ask for haircut. read more

Will never come back here! I asked for a TRIM and specifically said 1-1.5inches off. Reina started cutting and cutting and ended up cutting off 3+ inches! Every time I look in the mirror I want to cry. I asked for some layers and she gave me SUPER choppy, uneven and chunky layers. I have very thick hair and it looks HORRIBLE. It's like a wolf cut. Half of my hair is at my chin length and half is 3-4 inches longer. No finesse. She kept saying at the end that she "kept the length" and technically my hair is still longer in the back but I have these very very short layers for about 50% of my hair. I want them to make it right obviously, but it's impossible since most of my hair was chopped off. It's going to take months to grow up. Very upset. Would not recommend. Maybe they are different for perms and color, but she clearly did not do what I asked for a TRIM. I've honestly never been angrier at a haircut. In the before and after you can see how much length she took off - does that look like 1 inch?! I've also been to other high end Asian hair salons in the city and I've always been asked how I normally style my hair, do I want a style that needs to be blow dried every day, etc. Reina only asked me how I part my hair? As a new customer, I thought they would do more of an intake on my hair preferences? There was none of that tailored customer service, she just started hacking away at my hair. I wanted to try harueh because it's closer to me than my previous salon which was in SoHo, but I am traumatized by this experience. Worst hair experience of my life. They clearly only know how to cut thin, silky asian hair and not asian hair of other textures (wavy, thick, etc). They don't listen to what the client wants, the stylist only cut whatever she felt like she thought "looked good". At the end of the appointment she kept trying to convince me that my hair "looked good" which was REALLY annoying because it did NOT look good to me. My shortest layers are now only inches long. My chest length hair is now at my chin. I wouldn't have this haircut even if they gave me $1,000. RUN AWAY from this salon. Reina also didn't realize I could understand Korean and the whole appointment she was talking with her co-worker about how hungry she was and how she couldn't wait for dinner. Overall, a super unprofessional stylist (in terms of skill level and client relationship). Do NOT even consider coming here. I am not even sure how they are so highly rated on Yelp / so recommended by asians in the city. They don't know what they're doing if they can't do something simple like a trim. read more

There aren't that many recent reviews for this place although there were so many customers during my time there and it seemed like they were regulars. All the stylists were very attentive and welcoming to their customers and covid precautions were taken as there was a seat in between each customer. I dyed my hair at home with the hello bubble dye and after a month it became an orange-y shade with dark overgrown roots-- which was not a flattering sight at all. Nicole did an amazing job from the initial consultation to the end of appointment. I had a perm 3 months ago so I didn't want to bleach my hair so she did subtle balayage to add dimension and make my hair a darker shade to blend with my natural roots. Then my hair was cut into a layered style. While walking to the subway, my hair felt so bouncy, lighter and looked so much healthier than when I first came into the salon. I can't be happier with my haircuts, I've been going now for about 6 months and I get compliments everywhere I go. Fortunately Kelly was able to fit him in her schedule while we were in town. My son was very nervous before his appointment, but when we got there he saw another guy also getting a perm and a lot of other Asian guys getting haircuts which put him at ease. His wash, cut and digital perm came to $150 (before tip) which I think is very reasonable and Kelly did such a fantastic job! The whole process took about 2.5 hours, but it was all well worth it. I reached out to Nicole via Instagram Bc I really liked how she cut layers and my current hairstyle was getting too heavy, making it difficult to style. Nicole was very responsive and knew what I wanted in order to let my shorter layers and bangs grow in. She helped me even out my layers and made my hair feel lighter, giving it more movement. Got a haircut with Ellie yesterday and loved it! She cut my hair exactly how I requested and looks exactly like the reference photo I provided - long layers while keeping length and shorter curtain bangs. I don't know why but in my experience stylists will try to convince me to cut my hair super short and thin it out but Ellie just listened to my concerns and layered my hair without making it look thin! I have thinner hair at the front of my face so most stylists don't usually know how to cut it without making it look sparse, but Ellie paid really close attention and made sure she layered my bangs and also considered how my hair would look put up with the bangs as well. I head about Harueh from a friend, and they are a large enough salon that there seemed to be quite a few open appointments available even in the evenings. Interior has a pretty cool vibe and it's very lively with the customers coming through. The clientele appears to mostly be Korean and male, although without a barbershop vibe. They did a great job with my women's cut. There's a lot of support staff running around, including people to take your clothes and bags from you right away and multiple receptionists answering the phone. Definitely far more prompt service than the small size would suggest. During my first blow dry, pre-blow out when Kit was drying my hair for further cutting, someone came by to dry the other half of my head to speed up the time. Kit was very understanding and good at listening to what I wanted and giving non-pressure feedback. Overall I'm very happy with my haircut. I had a wonderful haircut with JK Lee and the whole experience here. I've been to salons where I felt like they were rushing, but JK was very focused and thorough. I told him I wanted a cut where I wouldn't have to spend a lot of time styling it myself and he took the time to look at the hair from different angles, moving it around or putting it in a pony tail, so that it would look its best. I appreciated this attention to detail. It's rare that I find myself liking the hair cut before they even finish styling it, but I could tell by the way it was falling when it was still wet that I would like it -- and I love it!
