I did my hair again at V One Salon. This time I bleached it 3x and dyed it grey with blue undertone. Manny and Wah Jeh were my hairstylists. They spent 4hrs on my hair and worked as fast as they can because I was in a rush to leave for my sister's wedding. My hair came out a little lighter than the picture I showed them but it turned out very nice. It looked good in pictures and in real life. EVERYONE was complimenting it. Crazy! The color looked a little golden brown even though there was no brown in it at all and I liked the brown. Manny and Wah Jeh worked diligently to make sure that my hair will come out looking good. First and last time coming here. Sam is such a rough person. I've never had a hair stylist wash by hair by rubbing the shower head back and forth ON my forehead. That hurts, by the way. Water kept falling into my eyes. I gave him the benefit of the doubt since he was a stylist, probably doesn't wash a lot of hair. However, there was more pain to come during the cutting process. The scissors kept snagging on my hair every cut he made. Sam also proceeded to trim the first couple of hair on my forehead with a buzzer, now every time I brush my hair there's an annoying fuzz there. Waiting for it to grow out is gonna be a drag. Not to mention I got poked in the eye a couple of times by his fingers. The buzzer kept banging onto my skull as he's buzzing around my head. He dropped the comb and pretended it didn't happen and kept buzzing along, eyeing each cut instead. I feared for my eyebrows every time he came close to them. More of a 4.5 stars. Came in on a Friday afternoon for a walk-in appointment. Didn't care who worked on my hair, so I am excited to introduce to everyone Ray and Maggie. Maggie was the one who dyed and washed my hair. The color turned out fantastic, but the service was a bit rough. The place was packed when I arrived and I could tell she was under a lot of pressure. We barely spoke at first. I told her my Chinese wasn't good. I could feel my hair get tugged as she tried to rush. My head felt like it was on an assembly line, and her patience was thinning by the minute. I hear her comment in Cantonese that I had too much hair. It was a battle she couldn't win. I finally asked her about the salon and herself in English. She cheerfully opened up and we chatted away as her grip on my hair finally eased. Overall, I would say Maggie did a wonderful job. The color was even all around and after a couple of washes, the red is slightly less vibrant, but that's expected. Plus, I am just rocking the red hair. (For those looking for an awesome and affordable shampoo and conditioner for colored hair, I recommend the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil line.) After Maggie washed my hair, Ray immediately began working on my hair. I requested to have my bangs trimmed and my hair cut 3 inches with layers and he did just that. He was also very rough on my hair, not giving special attention to a couple of tangles in my hair from the wash. He kind of just plowed through the knots, probably pulling out a couple of strands of hair each time (sigh). Overall, I was satisfied with my cut. To be fair, I'm not very picky about my hairstyle. As long as I have bangs that look cute, I'm happy. Cut + color was $110 before tax and tip. Would I recommend V One? Definitely. Has V One won me their undying loyalty? Not really. My boyfriend comes here more than twice and every time it seems like there were different stylists doing his haircut. But the quality of the haircut is not the style he wants most of the time. He wanted to trim a bit on the top and cut a little bit more on the side. The problem: 1. One time they cut the hair way too short on the side and the top even though my boyfriend showed them the picture of what kind of haircut he wants. 2. Yesterday he went here and showed the exact same photo, and he ended up having both side shaved almost like bald, and did nothing on the top! I used to come here for Kenny (who is amazing), but they told me to try someone else while he's on an "extended vacation" They gave me SAM. I showed him my Pinterest inspiration photo of an Ash brown balayage with grayish tones. As he was drying my hair, I was horrified and saw how bad it really was. It was a brassy orange on top, green and gray in the middle, and blonde at the tips. It was splotchy, uneven and not blended well. I wanted to cry. I asked if I can come back another day to fix it since it's uneven and not the desired look. (Not even close) He proceeded to tell me "that's how your hair took color, that's just how it is". I told him it's not just about the color, it's uneven and I should not see bleach streaks at the top of my head. He was dismissive, and brushed off my complaints and said things like "I've been doing this for years", "we gave you a very good price", "it's your hair that takes color this way"... THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE and I've had plenty of beautiful balayage colorings done. I was so upset I didn't know what to do so I left because he was not willing to do anything to correct this. On my way out, one of the hair washing ladies said to me "maybe you can try purple shampoo..." So I have to fix your mistake??? It was so rude and unprofessional... I don't wish this grief on anyone. Salons make mistakes, and what they're supposed to do is fix it. What horrible customer service!!!! This will be my last time coming here as a frequent customer. I went to another salon the next day to fix it and all they had to do was toner. This was not offered by Sam, a seemingly simple fix. I was only given a huffy, defensive attitude. This place has gone DOWNHILL. I think they're lying about Kenny being away on vacation after reading other older reviews. Do not make the mistake of coming here for a color job. I look like I have a sad rainbow on my head with a flame at the top. Thank god for the wizard at New Light in Brooklyn who was able to fix this at only $65 for toner. I've gone here twice. First time to touch up my colored hair... their touch up was horrible.... when the process was done I can still see my previously old colored out, faded bleach hair. I'm no hair prof but I know a 30 min dye isnt Shit. When the process was done they dare to charge me $130 + 20 tip = $150... for a trim and a touched up to my hair. I got Sam. The day after edit: I am horrified after I washed my hair at home that my hair looks like one of a cheap whore. I have flyaways all over my head. My hair looks thin and weak. He didn't ask me for my opinion and just started cutting. He did long layers which is something I didn't ask for. I just expected it all to be the same length as a basic, but I normally get short layers if any at all and only in the front. The only thing he said to me was "how long do you want it?" Now my hair looks disgusting. I don't fucking have time to flat iron my hair every day or to style it. Pissed does not describe how I feel about my hair. There's no point in going back because how is he going to give me back my hair that he already fucking cut off? He should stick to cutting men's hair or the hair of the women in the 90s.
