Waited an extra 25 minutes for my order and watched everyone who was behind me get their food only to find out they had put my order had been put iin the take out warmer without calling out my name, despite the fact the front of house person has alerted the staff when I arrived that the order was coming out soon. Ironically I used their own website to order rather than Uber eats but of course the Uber Eats order got priortized. All I got was a very curt "sorry" when I finally got my food. Since the website dosent have a contact email I figured this review will maybe get noticed instead. It's a quick burger joint with excellent burgers. The true reason for my five star rating though is their pie. They sell Gertie's pies and the chocolate peanut butter pie is just wonderful and will make you come back to the joint again and again. The service is fast and the ambience is moderately loud but you can continue a conversation. You should give it a try. read more

Toppings are predetermined depending on the burger you choose. Do you like chicken burgers? Nicely fried and the meat was juicy. It reminded me of a McChicken but ten times better. Do you like fries? These are chunky and crisp. Do you like onion rings? These tasted like Harvey's. I was disappointed because my small only had 6. The portion was tiny. First time experience. Customer service at the cash was less to be desired. Did not communicate to the grill cook that I had a dairy allergy. This is important for cooking utensils and bun (they warm with butter). Got home to find a ton of Mayonnaise on the burger that I had asked for only specific items to be on it and explained a few times that I had a dairy allergy. Overall an average burger. AND, they are one of the only burger joints that uses steak cut fries which I LOVE when done right. The way they have continually cooked them is burnt and/or dry. I ordered form Harry's about a year ago and at the time thought their fries were amazing while their burger was "solid" but not overwhelming. Still, I wanted to give them another try but they seemed to disappear off Ubereats. I noticed recently that they are back (not sure if they changed location?) and I have been on a bit of a burger kick lately (after a bit of a hiatus) so ordered another Double Jane today. As with my last experience, the fries are amazing! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside...a great texture! They weren't quite as salty as the last batch (I included pics of today's fries vs. my previous order) but still great. As for the burger, it was much better than I remembered! Very juicy without being greasy and full of flavour! While I typically like strong flavours, in this case I liked the fact that the flavours were noticeable but not overpowering. For example, I tasted the pickles but they didn't overwhelm as they did in a burger I ordered from another place last week. In fact of the three burgers I have ordered this past week, Harry's was definitely the best. So based on this experience I am promoting them up from a "solid" into an "excellent" rating! Harry's is located near King and Jameson in a plaza beside the No Frills/Dollarama. The place is somewhat hidden as you would have never guessed there was a diner there. I dropped by for lunch at Harry's on a Thursday and the place was not super busy but there were already a few tables eating. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to find the host so I sat down on one of the empty tables near the entrance. The waiter promptly came by to inquire about my beverage of choice and I ordered a green burger. When the food came, as indicated by other reviewers, the burger was small but the fries that came on the side definitely would fill you up. The combination of the green chorizo in the burger with the condiments worked well together. The fries were also super fresh and filling. Definitely a heavy, greasy meal! Overall, burger was somewhat small and the prices are a tad high, but I wouldnt mind coming back for more. Not Worth It. I had the Big Jane as they listed and it was not worth my $13.50. It lacked flavour and that good meat patty texture. Also had the crispy chicken sandwich which was better but still un-impressive. The crispy onion rings were tasty but the measly amount for $7 is again not worth it. This place had no ambiance to eat in and definitely too expensive for a burger fries joint for anyone specially young families. Toronto has definitely become a haven for burgers. There are a myriad of different types of burgers of all shapes and sizes at all different price points. I'm always down for trying new takes on burgers but sometimes, I want an old school, back to the basics burger with everything done just right. For me, that's what Harry's Charbroiled provides and it provides it pretty darn well. Wanting something meaty, I opted for the Double Jane; a double beef patty with picked, cheese, onions and ketchup. The meat was cooked perfectly and the bun to meat ratio was just right. I feel like a glutton saying this but even after finishing that double patty burger, I wanted more. Oh my. Luckily, Harry's was also carrying Gerties Peanut Butter Pie so I obviously had to get that too. I've never tasted peanut butter pie (never knew such was a thing) but now there's no going back. It was really great to see Harry's support this up and coming desert. Logistically, this was ordered via UBEREats and I had no complaints. It was efficiently packaged and still warm when it found its way to me. Harry's definitely belongs on any "Best of" Toronto burger lists; a true classic! read more

It was a good burger , was it mind blowing . Not particularly. I will say the bun was nice and soft and the pickles were on point. Something was missing in the burger it just didn't wow me and the only thing I can pin point is the Harry's sauce. I don't think it was tangy enough. The server said it was comparable to Mac sauce to me it was more mayo with a hint of mustard. I wasn't a fan of the fries at all. Way to thick and very disappointed with the gravy. Lacked flavour and had a weird after taste. I like a good Harvey's gravy , good old fashioned beef gravy that pairs well on a poutine. The burger hit the spot but I don't think I will be going back. The service was great, the location is super clean, the fries were well-seasoned and pretty tasty as far as steak-cut fries go, but let's get on to the burger... I ordered a double, and in hindsight this might be why I felt this way, but the patties were insanely salty, so much so I removed one and even thought it was still salty, it was at least palatable. The bun, sauce, condiments were all on point, but that salty salty burger made the experience a definite let down. I wonder if you can order a burger without them salting the patty so heavily? The burgers are fried - not charbroiled as the name states. The POS seems confusing - three different people asked me what I wanted after reading the ticket. The burgers are really thin. I got a double but it didn't feel like half a pound. The parties are smashed so thin that the edges, that stick an inch out of the bun, are thin and dry. That also leaves not much meat once you get to the burger. The patties were pretty tasteless - except for too much salt. The milkshake was warm and tasteless - and 7.99 plus tax. The wedge fries were well cooked and had a good texture. But again, too much salt. For two dry, thin burgers, a small fries, and a milkshake I paid $45. Absolutely not worth it!! read more

I am more of pub burger person so i didnt expect much from this place. But when i had my first bite, it changed everything. Harry's burger patty is cross between american style flat patty and thick juicy pub burger patty. It has that semi crunch exterior but yet has full of flavour. If you're hungry for something charbroiled and don't mind a no frills burger, then Harry's will certainly fit the bill. However, you won't be getting a burger that will demand your return, or give you good bang for your buck. While a decent tasting burger and nothing bad, it's quite small for an $11.50 price tag. When I bit into the burger, it tasted exactly like a burger I've previously made at home for much cheaper. I didn't get a chance to try their fries, so I can't comment on that. Smashed burgers, fresh buns, high quality toppings, and those fries, i LOVE steak cut fries when they are cooked properly. these were fried to perfection, really delicious fries, i absolutely loved them. I don't think they are fresh cut though. The burgers were good! i still prefer Rudy's for smashed burgers as they smash them right, they have that lovely crispy edge, these were mostly smashed and pretty tasty, the buns are excellent as well. I also had the onion rings, they sadly also seemed to have freezer origins too. Still friend nicely, but man, i wish these shops would make fresh onion rings, easy and cheap, and they taste SOOOOOOOOOO much better than frozen. If harry's had fresh fries and onion rings, they would really compliment their good burgers, these short cuts lower the experience a bit, as fresh is always better than frozen. Found this place online when I was trying to find a lunch spot in Parkdale, and was lured in by the reviews. What a gem! First off, it's nothing special on the outside...looks a bit rundown. On the inside, it's got lots of vintage posters and Christmas lights which is kitschy. I had the Banquet burger and my boyfriend had the Big-Jane burger. I'll agree with other posters saying that the burger is a touch small for the price, but that's not necessarily a bad thing...I don't need a monster burger all the time! The burger itself was FANTASTIC and delicious, all of the toppings added so much flavour. But real talk...the fries?? These are like a thick steak cut fry. Fried perfectly. Was looking for a decent charbroiled burger place that was good value and this seemed to fit the bill. Got the plain jane burger which was $12.50 taxes in. The burger itself was decent albeit a bit small. I was expecting prob a 6 or 8oz party but it seemed like a 4oz. It was as small as those wonder bread burger buns. Fries were plenty and pretty crispy, which compensated for the small burger in terms of keeping me full. For the price, if the burger was bigger, I'd would recommend this place. I may be biased, as this is the first greasy spoon I have been to in the area - but I like it. I'm actually not certain if it's on Springhurst - it's actually just by the No Frills , at the back end of the alleyway - but the address very well be correct, as the alleyway has no name to call its own. I'm not going to give raving review on the service- she wasn't friendly, nice , patient or talkative but she was certainly prompt, which made everything else endurable - since I am, afterall, there to be fed. Seriously, don't expect her to smile back at you - it AIN'T going to happen. The decor isn't as amazing as the milkshake here - but if you find antiques fascinating - there is a jukebox in here from I dunno when! It completely occupied my attention, even though it didn't work(when I remember to take a pic of this, I will post it- it seems to always slip my mind). Good size food - seems to be a hit & miss withe flavours, but non the less, completely filling- and I felt that there was value. Milkshake is pretty awesome - I couldn't share it. So apparently Harry's Char Broil & Dining Lounge was recently bought and transformed by noted Toronto restaurateur Grant van Gameren, and although the food is certainly a cut above your typical old-school diner, I was happy to discover that the interior remains just as eclectic and sketchy as before. We arrived just before noon on a Saturday and the place was packed, but luckily we were able to grab a table that had just been vacated. I perused the menu and quickly decided to go with one of my favorites: the Corn Beef Hash ("corned beef, home fries, fried egg, peppers"). The dish arrived shortly after and was piping hot (yes!) It's a lot of food. You get a thick hunk of corned beef atop the aforementioned home fries and peppers, and it works. The beef is typically salty, but that intense flavor is allayed by the sweet peppers. When combined with the fried egg, the whole thing is a gloriously tasty mess. I enjoyed the heck out of this dish. The cash-only thing is a bit of a bummer, however. read more

My personal all-time favourite burger is a double-double burger, animal style at In N Out. Second would probably be a banquet burger from Real McCoy in Scarborough. After having a Plain-Jane, though, I think Real McCoy may have just been bumped to 3rd, or they are now at least sitting at 2nd with Harry. Plain-Jane Burger - Each of us literally said "Ohmahgawd" as soon as the burger hit our tastebuds. Not even after a few chews, but literally when it hit our tastebuds. The patty is so fresh and juicy, it's just wow. What's great about it is that Plain-Jane was just that - plain. But in a good way. In a "less is more" type of way. All it had was cheese, pickles, onion and ketchup. That's it. Definitely a must-have if you love burgers. Oh and guess what? Parking is free! 5/5. Fries - All burger orders come with fries that are super crispy. Was also a pretty generous serving so we were able to share a basket. 5/5. Gravy - Gravy was nice and hot, however I personally prefer the darker and thicker gravy, with a little bit of saltiness to it. I made the mistake of ordering the corned beef hash. While all the other breakfasts around me came piled high and on a huge plate, this was a pathetic amount served on a appetizer plate. It said it as served with peppers and home fries but I only received two of each (my friend was even surprised by the lack of potatoes... seriously two potatoes!) and instead a huge pile of pickled onions, so every bite tasted like vinegar. The corned beef was amazing but at $12 it was a huge rip off. Especially seeing this place is the definition of dive bar. And the service was meh. Very slow. Wouldnt go back. read more

You really cannot disagree when someone gives Harry's high praise. If I've learned anything during my time on Yelp, it's that surprises await you around every corner and today, as I entered the divey, dated and colourfully decorated, (read: vintage sunshine girl calendars abound) doors of Harry's a burgerlicious surprise awaited me. As I mentioned, it's a dive bar, but a dive bar with really good classic diner eats and strong coffee. What more could you want? I feel like 50 years ago business types would stop in for a pack of cigs, black coffee and a burger and it'd be served with a smile by a lady named Flo. Nowadays, it's dark and seedy, and your burger is served by a hipster named Finn or Liam. But it still holds up. I did indeed partake in said black coffee but also was amazed by their burger list. I took the path less travelled and ordered a non-traditional but delicious sounding 'Green Burger' which is a chorizo patty infused with spinach served with a host of delicious cooked toppings. I don't know who Grant Van Gameren is but apparently the fact that he took over Harry's is suppose to be a thing. A friend told me about the place and frankly I should have known better than to fall prey to the rattlings of the hipster grapevine. Came here with a friend for a burger, grilled cheese sandwich and fries. Really wish I hadn't. The old diner aesthetic is indeed still very much in place with the decor, right down to the coin operated table jukeboxes. You can imagine an older generation of blue-collar working class folk coming here for a beer and cheap eats back in the day. If you're looking for that vibe you can find it here or many other diners still alive in the city. As for the food...Now, I've eaten in my fair share of diners all across Canada. Some were surprisingly good, others were barely survivable. Harry's food though not toxic (I suppose that's why everything but the fries were near chard black...Y'know...food safety) is also rather bland and uninspired. My friend's grilled cheese was toasted till black and my burger, what little there was of it, was like a chewy piece of charcoal. I guess I didn't read the menu well enough but usually a "Banquet Burger" has things like lettuce, tomato, pickle, onions...Not so at Harry's, I guess near $15 for a burger a little veg is too much to ask. The fries were most likely the frozen $1 per kilo variety that you can find at any nofrills grocery store (hey whattaya know there's a nofrills right next door to the place). The service I suppose was competent enough albeit done with a nonchalance. I don't think our waitress ever did a quality check with us the whole time we were there. Perhaps she knows better than to ask "How is everything?" When you can have a burger of far superior taste and quality for less than 1/2 the price at the new A&W Parkdale location I can't imagine the retro diner aesthetics of Harry's being worth the trip. Take it one step further you'd be leagues better off at Burger Priest or the nearby Cardinal Rule or The Rude Boy than at Harry's.
