Elijah's Automatic serves one of the juiciest burgers I have had in the GTA. The texture alone immediately brings back memories of what McDonald's would've tasted like back in the day, but with a noticeably more premium touch in both presentation and execution. This is the kind of place you go when you want to step away from overly fancy burgers and just enjoy something classic that works. I ended up trying most of the lineup, and honestly, there is not a dramatic difference between the Automatic with Cheese, Bacon Cheese Automatic, and Golden State. The builds are fairly similar, which is not a bad thing, just something to note. The standout for me was the Hotomatic with Cheese. The hot pepper slaw had more heat than expected and added a real kick between the patties that made it memorable. If I had to recommend just one, it would be either the Automatic with Cheese or the Golden State. Both are clean, balanced, and hard to mess up. My biggest obsession here is the fries cooked in beef tallow. There is something about them that instantly brings back the taste I remember from childhood. If anything, I just wish they came in a larger portion. One small letdown was the Bacon Cheese Automatic. While the burgers overall feel thoughtfully assembled, the bacon felt oddly disconnected, almost like it was added as an afterthought. Instead of blending in, it stood out with sharp saltiness and threw off the balance a bit. That said, this place does exactly what it sets out to do. Simple, nostalgic, and executed with care. A cute hidden burger joint in etobicoke! I got the bacon cheese automatic, the burger was simple but delicious! The burger didn't feel heavy. The french fries were good, reminded me of mcdonalds. They sell unique donuts as well. They quite a few dessert options involving ice cream. The food took about 15 minutes to make. Fyi, the interior is super beautiful and modern. I'd been interested in Elijah's Automatic Flame Broiled Burgers since I read it was from the dude behind Burger's Priest. I finally got a chance to check the joint out this evening and it's a bit disappointing. First of all, it's way under staffed. There were three people in line waiting in front of me and somehow it took almost 20 minutes for my turn to come next. I don't blame the woman behind the counter; she did the best she could under difficult circumstances. Ironically, the burger was ready within minutes, so that was nice. I had opted for the Automatic with Cheese ("Two flame broiled beef patties with cheddar cheese, pickle, charred onion, mustard and ketchup"), and it certainly does have a distinct flame-broiled flavor. It's actually the highlight because otherwise I can't say I was crazy about the concoction. For one thing, it's a super greasy burger. But worse was the almost total lack of texture. The whole thing was just kind of one-note mushy, and without a deep beef flavor I did grow a little tired of eating it. It's fine, ultimately. But for 16 bucks, I think I was expecting something a little better and more memorable. read more

We bought to Hauteburgers, fries and one bottle of water, total was $47 after tax and tip. The food was average. We were there later in the day around 730pm, there were three donuts left in the display case. We didn't try any. But I was kinda still hungry after dinner. The service was very nice. I am a little disappointed I really wanted to give this place at least a 4 but I'd be lying For the price point of these burgers I would say it is on the high end I ordered the most basic burger and a side of fries after tax it came up to $20 no drink. No combo options Once you order there is a bit of a wait so I would say that it is made to order. The fries were hot when I got them and are fried in beef fat and it does give it a little extra flavor I thought I would need ketchup but I ended up eating the fries without ketchup. The burger when I got it however was not really that hot temperature wise.I was hoping it was just outside and once I got into the middle it would be hot but it wasn't. I also felt like there wasn't really any flavor to the Burger, the beef tasted fresh and real but no real flavor or spices to the burger if that makes any sense. Bland. They sell donuts here and honestly because of the price of the burger and fries I wasn't going to risk paying an arm and a leg for donuts that I may not like the price of the donuts were not on the menu or the display. Almost all the tables and chairs had crumbs on them in the dinning area I had to clean some before sitting down. Towards the end of my stay I did see someone start coming to clean the dining room maybe they were just a little busy and understaffed Fries 4/5 Burger 2.5/5 (with added seasoning to add flavor it has potential)! But overall for the price points I don't think it's worth it especially because you don't even get dine in service. read more

April 3/2025: My second visit to this spot. My double burger/fries can to a total of $20.10. That was an increase of 33% since my last visit of August/24. That's pretty darn big of an increase! The burger size has become smaller small as well. I asked for my fries to Be well done but they weren't. They were very tasty however! I'm not sure if this stands out enough to warrant a 3rd visit. This is my second visit to Elijah's Automatic. One item I wanted to try was the charge chicken sandwich. It is served on the same type of button that they use for their hamburgers. I suspect it's a potato bun, but they would not tell me because they try to maintain this as part of the mystery around their brand. The sandwich was delicious. The person behind the counter recommended that I try the house lemonade, and it was also very good not too sweet and not too tart. The clear winner in my opinion was the chilli cheese fries. The quantities are very generous, and the fries certainly did not lack for chilli no cheese. The service was as good as the last time that I had visited. My only complaint this time around was the fact that the music was way too loud while I am a huge fan of Guns N' Roses, concert level is not my first choice when sitting down to have a meal. The person behind the counter was very accommodating when I asked her to lower the volume , and it was immediately lowered to unacceptable level. I really wanted to love this place as it was started by the founder of Burger's Priest. The concept is cool. In an old home, it's dark and mysterious. There is ample parking in the back and dining in is an option. We ordered the burgers and fries; for four people, it was close to $100. Definitely not a cheap eat. The burger was just meh. Would highly recommend this spot for burger and fries! Higher priced than fast food, but much better quality. The fries were like McDonald's but even better! I'm no burger connoisseur, but Elijah's burgers has been the best I've had to date. I got the automatic with cheese, which had very tender and juicy patties between two very soft buns. I would say bun preference is key here as some people might not like soft buns - think hawaiian rolls but in burger bun form. The toppings can be a bit boring too, but I think it lets the patties and bun shine while not being bland, although I could have used a bit more ketchup/mustard on mine. We also got the chili cheese fries which were good, but would probably get plain next time because of the up charge. All in all, a fantastic burger joint, but it is on the pricier side. read more

An old law office with black walls, shelves full of candles, and a menu signboard like the kind you'd see in a European train station. The patio is very small, and so you may have to eat inside. The dining room is sparse, with artless walls and tiny tables so tiny that they seem designed to make sure you don't linger. I liked the chicken burger (it's so thin that it felt like it might even be healthy) but the chocolate old-fashioned doughnut was a bit too cakey for my liking. This place is fairly new and very popular right now. It's basically an old house converted to a burger joint. Looks like there is a rental unit above it still. Food (3.5/5) - had the Bacon Automatic Burger and Fries. Smashed burger double patty was ok. Not the biggest pair of patties but cooked well but flavour was a bit on bland side. They were out of Chili cheese fries so had the regular ones and they are VERY average. Had a birthday cake type donut as well and it was not bad. Service (3.5/5) - servers are friendly and hustling but long line up just to get to order. Probably since it is a new novelty place and will die down I'm sure. Atmosphere (4/5) - it's an interesting place to eat with the inside being on the darker side and a small outdoor patio in back. Basic tables and chairs inside. Overall (3.5/5) - it's an ok burger place imo and I give them props for the concept. However just feel like there is better value out there with tastier options. Hands down the best burger I have had in TO (even if it is actually in Etobicoke) The burger has a Smokey flavour and a beautiful texture - Bun - delicious perfectly soft If you are a pickle lover - the pickles on this burger were the best burger pickles I have experienced! Decent burger for non-smash style, still prefer other smash burgers in the neighborhood. My burger was quite dried out, tastes a bit like the patty from mc donalds, but my partners burger was a lot juicier so perhaps they overcooked mine the burgers are great as they are cooked in beef fat, taste a lot like McDs but even crispier. The place is very dimly lit, especially the waiting area, my eyes struggled to adjust. Music was also a little too loud in the waiting area to hear the order numbers being called out, though I did enjoy the 2000s throwbacks being blasted. Unlike other burger places the dining area is far away in a seperate room, so there's no good way to sit at a table while you wait because the music makes it impossible to hear the order number unless you are close. Takes about 15 minutes of waiting for food, and since you cant hear the order from the main dining area, the only seats to use while waiting are the tall counter stools, if other people arent using them for eating already. Seems like the solution would be to just turn down the music a touch, or have a better way to announce orders than having the person yell very loud. Other thing I would mention, it would be nice if you could have the food served on trays when dining in, that way they dont steam up. This place is quite new and popular. We decided to give it a shot after a recommendation from a friend. We ordered online in advance for pick up which I highly recommend to avoid waiting in line. When I arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday evening, I think there were 10-15 people crowded around waiting for their meals to come out plus a long line of people ordering at cash. I was happy to stroll to the front and just pick up my meal. The location is a house and the decor is very dark and cool. We ordered the automatic and automatic with bacon. Both were delicious, very juicy burgers. Loved the pickles and onions. We also had the fries which are amazing, highly recommend. They were so nice and crispy. There are 4 dbl patty burgers to choose from (1. With cheese, 2. With cheese, bacon, pickles, charred onion mustard and ketchup 3. Add chili - bacon 4.With cheese tomato, lettuce, charred onion and house sauce.) I had the #2 - it is a juicy burger with great flame broiled flavour. Fries, are good (cooked in beef fat) but at $4.50 seem expensive for the amount you get. And I had a chocolate shake. Again, it was good but it's in a medium cup and is $6.50. Is this really the cost of things these days? I guess so. Won't fault them for that. Over all we had a great time (we did have to ask them to turn the music down- you couldn't yell in your neighbour's ear and be heard - they complied and it was much better. Maybe we are all just too old. It's a unique dining room, doesn't seat many but it certainly doesn't seem mile a fast food restaurant. There is only counter service and they call you on the intercom to come pick up your order. But the staff were all friendly and happy to explain anything. Another huge hit! There are so many burger spots in the city and many feel the same. This place is different. The charred grill taste and hint of medium doneness is a welcome change in the sea of smashed burgers we have in the city. The fries are awesome. Some of the best in the city. The fry dipping sauce is worth getting(and adding a bit to your burger). I recommend the new "Golden state" burger. It has more veggies resulting in a more balanced burger. Ok friends, it's been a bit since my last review but today being a holiday I thought I would venture out and get a burger. Today's stop was Elijah's Automatic. A bit of a drive for me but it's a beautiful day so I made my way to Etobicoke. Plenty of parking here and free which is always nice. One of the three girls working the counter gave a friendly smile and took my order, a bacon cheese automatic, beef fries with secret sauce and a root beer. The burger was good, bacon was crispy, a bit messy but I do like a bit of a mess today. The bun is soft and the pickles crispy and the diced onions are a great touch. I finished the burger in what seemed like 4 bites, not because it's small but I guess I was hungrier than I thought. Very tasty. Now the fries...these are supposed to be just like McDonald's, they do look that way but these aren't over salted and soggy like the clown makes them, the sauce is a winner, it has a nice little spice that sits on the tongue. Overall a very good combo, I would absolutely recommend trying this spot. The back patio is a nice spot to enjoy lunch too. Now for the rating, I'm going to go 4 stars today. They are better burgers in the city but not very much better and I can't do half stars here otherwise I'd go 4.5. read more

Finally stopped in as the name caught my attention each time I drove by, as did the sign proclaiming the "best donuts in Etobicoke." Someone had warned me off the burgers saying they taste terrible, but I thought maybe a donut would be safe. I did see some gnats flying around one donut on the upper rack, but the apple fritters looked safe and were, according to the girl behind the counter, the most popular. No price posted, and I ended up paying $5.64 - yep, $5.64 - for an apple fritter the same size as Tim Hortons but with a burnt taste in the first bite and stale donut for all three bites before I gave up and threw it away. If there was a place to do negative this would get it. My brother went on Firday Nov 1 to this place. He was so excited. Unfortunately, his excitement did not last. It is dark and dim. He order the Golden State and fries. When I open my bag; I pulled out this soggy burger halfway out of the burger sleeve (his too). It had been put into the bag so sloppy I had to transfer to plate immediately only also to find a KETCHUP packet inside the burger. Ugh. Then when I pulled the fries!! I had to use a spoon to eat my burger because it most of it was not in the bun. This was a first spoon to eat my burger. Honestly whoever wrote the reviews befor on Google are paid for--Best Fries; Best Burger---Really!! McDonalds and Wendy's has better fries. This whole experience was a diaster and we will not ho back. I can go to Costco and get fries for half of $4.99. The burger is also not worth the price. The Whopper has more style and class and less cost. Wendy Dave 2 for $4.00 is even better. This whole place is over priced. Oh, the doughnuts.
