I'd been interested in Elijah's Automatic Flame Broiled Burgers since I read it was from the dude behind Burger's Priest. I finally got a chance to check the joint out this evening and it's a bit disappointing. First of all, it's way under staffed. There were three people in line waiting in front of me and somehow it took almost 20 minutes for my turn to come next. I don't blame the woman behind the counter; she did the best she could under difficult circumstances. Ironically, the burger was ready within minutes, so that was nice. I had opted for the Automatic with Cheese ("Two flame broiled beef patties with cheddar cheese, pickle, charred onion, mustard and ketchup"), and it certainly does have a distinct flame-broiled flavor. It's actually the highlight because otherwise I can't say I was crazy about the concoction. For one thing, it's a super greasy burger. But worse was the almost total lack of texture. The whole thing was just kind of one-note mushy, and without a deep beef flavor I did grow a little tired of eating it. It's fine, ultimately. But for 16 bucks, I think I was expecting something a little better and more memorable.

Burger and fries

We bought to Hauteburgers, fries and one bottle of water, total was $47 after tax and tip. The food was average. We were there later in the day around 730pm, there were three donuts left in the display case. We didn't try any. But I was kinda still hungry after dinner. The service was very nice. And the place is clean and upscale looking for whoppers. Not in a rush to go back.

I am a little disappointed I really wanted to give this place at least a 4 but I'd be lying For the price point of these burgers I would say it is on the high end I ordered the most basic burger and a side of fries after tax it came up to $20 no drink. No combo options Once you order there is a bit of a wait so I would say that it is made to order. The fries were hot when I got them and are fried in beef fat and it does give it a little extra flavor I thought I would need ketchup but I ended up eating the fries without ketchup. The burger when I got it however was not really that hot temperature wise.I was hoping it was just outside and once I got into the middle it would be hot but it wasn't. I also felt like there wasn't really any flavor to the Burger, the beef tasted fresh and real but no real flavor or spices to the burger if that makes any sense. Bland. They sell donuts here and honestly because of the price of the burger and fries I wasn't going to risk paying an arm and a leg for donuts that I may not like the price of the donuts were not on the menu or the display. Almost all the tables and chairs had crumbs on them in the dinning area I had to clean some before sitting down. Towards the end of my stay I did see someone start coming to clean the dining room maybe they were just a little busy and understaffed Fries 4/5 Burger 2.5/5 (with added seasoning to add flavor it has potential)! But overall for the price points I don't think it's worth it especially because you don't even get dine in service.

April 3/2025: My second visit to this spot. My double burger/fries can to a total of $20.10. That was an increase of 33% since my last visit of August/24. That's pretty darn big of an increase! The burger size has become smaller small as well. I asked for my fries to Be well done but they weren't. They were very tasty however! I'm not sure if this stands out enough to warrant a 3rd visit. I'm feeling like the cost vs size vs flavour profile is not likely to warrant a 3rd visit.

The charred chicken sandwich, with chilli cheese, fries, and house lemonade

This is my second visit to Elijah's Automatic. One item I wanted to try was the charge chicken sandwich. It is served on the same type of button that they use for their hamburgers. I suspect it's a potato bun, but they would not tell me because they try to maintain this as part of the mystery around their brand. The sandwich was delicious. The person behind the counter recommended that I try the house lemonade, and it was also very good not too sweet and not too tart. The clear winner in my opinion was the chilli cheese fries. The quantities are very generous, and the fries certainly did not lack for chilli no cheese. The service was as good as the last time that I had visited. My only complaint this time around was the fact that the music was way too loud while I am a huge fan of Guns N' Roses, concert level is not my first choice when sitting down to have a meal. The person behind the counter was very accommodating when I asked her to lower the volume , and it was immediately lowered to unacceptable level. I always recommend this place, as a different experience for either hamburgers or other interesting offers from their menu. Peace out - jp (just pierre)

The Golden State burger is juicy and flavourful!

A hidden gem of a speakeasy-style burger joint! I tried the Golden State burger and the famous beef fat fries--both lived up to the hype. Service was quick, and the cashier helpfully recommended their top burger. The ambiance was intimate and unique, with dim lighting, electric candles, and great music.

Elijah's Automatic serves up juicy and flavourful char-grilled burgers with crisp fries in a house that's been transformed into a restaurant. The service is quick and friendly, and the nostalgic ambiance, complete with neon lights and stained glass, makes it a must-visit spot for burger lovers. They also sell donuts if you're looking for a sweet treat to round out your meal

The automatic burger

The burger was made fresh to order and had a good char broiled flavor to it. The taste od the burger though was minimal, no spice or flavor and not quite salty enough. The condiments added the flavor but not quite enough ketchup for my liking. The bun could have been toasted to give some texture, I like a soft brioche bun but without any crispy toasting, it was just mushy.

Would highly recommend this spot for burger and fries! Higher priced than fast food, but much better quality. The fries were like McDonald's but even better! The double patty burger was great with the bread and cheese. I also got an apple fritter donut which was delicious! It is very dark inside but it matches the vibe of the entire place. There are cool neon signs everywhere and the music is great. The man taking our order was very friendly! Not a lot of seating and it did really pick up around lunch time when we went.

An old law office with black walls, shelves full of candles, and a menu signboard like the kind you'd see in a European train station. The patio is very small, and so you may have to eat inside. The dining room is sparse, with artless walls and tiny tables so tiny that they seem designed to make sure you don't linger. I liked the chicken burger (it's so thin that it felt like it might even be healthy) but the chocolate old-fashioned doughnut was a bit too cakey for my liking. The fries were an excellent McD's dupe, and the chocolate milkshake was exactly how a classic milkshake should taste.

Bacon Automatic Burger

This place is fairly new and very popular right now. It's basically an old house converted to a burger joint. Looks like there is a rental unit above it still. Food (3.5/5) - had the Bacon Automatic Burger and Fries. Smashed burger double patty was ok. Not the biggest pair of patties but cooked well but flavour was a bit on bland side. They were out of Chili cheese fries so had the regular ones and they are VERY average. Had a birthday cake type donut as well and it was not bad. Service (3.5/5) - servers are friendly and hustling but long line up just to get to order. Probably since it is a new novelty place and will die down I'm sure. Atmosphere (4/5) - it's an interesting place to eat with the inside being on the darker side and a small outdoor patio in back. Basic tables and chairs inside. Overall (3.5/5) - it's an ok burger place imo and I give them props for the concept. However just feel like there is better value out there with tastier options. Personally, I like Zeal Burger, Plan B and Fat Fork better as options.

Awesome fries beef tallow clean oil

Beef tallow fries 5 stars!! The best oil was clean and taste was amazing! I am a French fry fan. It's why I went. The burger was tasty too. I thought it was good. But I'm not a burger expert They also sell Harry and heels donuts too! 5 stars for that. I bought a glazed donut. It's big. $3 for donuts with holes, others are $4?? Can't remember Atmosphere it's so dark in there. Can't say I liked that. But it looked clean. Would I go back? For sure especially for the fries

Get the peppers !

Hands down the best burger I have had in TO (even if it is actually in Etobicoke) The burger has a Smokey flavour and a beautiful texture - Bun - delicious perfectly soft If you are a pickle lover - the pickles on this burger were the best burger pickles I have experienced! (But also easy to request no pickles if like my husband you don't like pickles) The grilled onion - - perfect not slimy and over cooked - retained a solid structure but had the perfect balance of sweet and smoke.

This place is old Etobicoke architecture, in stark contrast to the shiny new condos, Scotiabank, and Farm Boy across the street. But I'd be lying if I said I don't have a soft spot in my heart for classic Toronto buildings, so in I went. The decor is funky retro dinerish. From seeing the ATM as the first thing before the counter started, and the fact the guy before me paid in cash, I intuited that this might be cash only, although I didn't confirm that since I actually had some of the folding stuff on me. A cheeseburger, small chocolate shake and French fries set me back $17.05. Not cheap, but not too much more than other fast food in Toronto. From what I saw from the other orders in front of mine, they have a wide menu selection including grilled chicken, steak, and veggie burgers. Also, the bacon they were adding to other sandwiches looked tasty too! The cashier was pleasant and the sandwich assembly line was efficient, and soon I was sitting down with my meal. The place was constantly busy while I was there. The fries were really good. Crisp but fluffy, not greasy, and unsalted, because as an adult, I could pick up one of the provided salt shakers and choose where I wanted my blood pressure set as opposed to the chef deciding for me. I actually didn't add anything because they were so good plain. The burger looked like someone had used ground beef and not a liquid slurry. It was passable, a very clean flavor. It sounds hypocritical to say I would have liked a bit more salt in the burger, but, well, guilty. But I appreciated the homemade feeling of the texture, a nice chew without being rubbery. And the bun was nicely toasted too. The shake came from a shake machine, and tasted exactly like that. Nice and thick, nothing special, but it hit the spot.. It's not a destination location by any means, but if you're in the area and looking for a burger, this is a fine choice.

It's a genuine smashed burger. My first bite of the meat that went outside the bun had me worried that it was overcooked, but it ultimately was just that piece as the rest of it was good and what you'd want from a smash burger. I got a double - which I'd recommend since the patties are on the somewhat smaller side, and really loved the burger. The fries were surprisingly average to my taste. Cut similar to McDonald's, but I didn't find they had much taste and were quite oversalted. Actually, they were very oversalted. I imagine that was a mistake on whoever was doing fries and otherwise they would be average but passible fries. But someone preferring thin cut may feel otherwise. My wife really enjoyed her strawberry milkshake. It doesn't look like it's from ice cream, but rather a cream base that they put in a frother for quite a bit of time. That also held up the order since there others had ordered shakes too, but ultimately it was a very good shake and can't hold that against them. It definitely came out nice and light.

Anyways came by here because TOP GUN as a whole was celebrating their 4 year anniversary and they had a promo for their HELLCAT burger for $5 a 6oz burger that usually goes for $8.50 for $5. Anyways I told the cashier guy about it and he told me yes $5 for the mini hellcat burger for $5 which is a 4oz. and I told him now it's your HELLCAT for $5 anyways in the end I was already there and I wasn't planning to drive this far for nothing so I was like fine give me your $5 4oz hellcat burger and a $6.50 poutine. The $5 4oz burger was a okay nothing special I wouldn't pay $5 for this at all especially for a 4oz. totally not worth it Burger King JR whoppers are far better than this burger and a cheaper price too. Get me thinking how would this actual Hellcat 6oz burger would have been if they actually were providing it during their 4 year promotional deal. This 4oz burger was soo small and the bun was bigger than the meat which I really not a fan. And the bun was toasted. The $6.50 poutine was okay nothing special wished I didn't' order it based on the unhealthiness it looked. Didn't really stand out for a poutine very generic. Would I visit this location again? Probably not and I wouldn't probably visit any other Top Gun locations as well due to their misleading promos. Specialty burger joints are a dime a dozen in the GTA and they have a hefty price to pay to eat there. I'll be very selective with how I spend my money at these type of restaurants and it's definitely up to myself to choose wisely. So for that I will definitely look elsewhere. It was ready in about 15 minutes and it sure looked impressive (and intimidating). This is one tasty burger. It's exactly the sort of decadent, larger-than-life treat promised by the description, as it's been overloaded with cheese and meat. The aforementioned soujuk gives the whole thing a good amount of spice, too. I will say, however, that the burger eats very, very heavy, which isn't surprising given that it's just fat on fat on fat. The arugula and tomato isn't quite enough to cut through all that richness, and I was definitely looking for some relief from all that richness. Still, as a once-in-a-while thing, I definitely would recommend this concoction. Service was friendly, too.
